Kodansha USA Publishing Announces On Sale Date Changes for Select Spring / Summer 2020 Print Titles

Kodansha USA Publishing, which includes both the Kodansha Comics and VERTICAL publishing imprints, has made the decision to shift on sale dates for many of its spring and summer 2020 print titles to later in the year, following careful consideration of the global health crisis and related book retail and distribution disruptions.

This decision was not made lightly and Kodansha USA Publishing continues to strive to support its physical retail partners as best it can during this challenging time for the industry. All backlist orders continue to be promptly filled by Kodansha USA Publishing’s distribution partner Penguin Random House. Furthermore, several frontlist releases, including debuts of highly anticipated new manga series, like Wave, Listen to Me!, and returning favorites like Tales of Berseria (Manga) volume 3, Drifting Dragons volume 4, and more, will retain their original on sale dates.

In order to meet unabated demand for fans reading at home, all previously scheduled Kodansha Comics and VERTICAL titles will continue to be released digitally by their original on sale dates. Kodansha Comics and VERTICAL ebooks will be released as originally planned via digital retail partners BookWalker, comiXology, Google Play, Kindle, MyAnimeList, Apple Books, Rakuten Kobo, nook and izneo.

Publishing schedule updates for both print and digital releases are viewable through the end of May 2020 at kodanshacomics.com/new-releases.

“We’re very, very lucky to be working with incredibly resilient and resourceful retail partners and our fantastic distribution partner at Penguin Random House, who are stepping up and keeping the essential lifeline of books open during an unprecedented disruption to our day-to-day business,” said Alvin Lu, Kodansha USA Publishing President and CEO. ‘Getting manga to readers is the top and only priority for us at Kodansha USA Publishing, which we will continue to do during this extraordinary time.”

The maker of Absolut Vodka and Jameson Irish Whiskey says it is converting its facilities to produce hand sanitizer that it will donate amid the shortage

US wine-and-spirits producer Pernod Ricard announced Wednesday that the company would convert all its distilleries to produce hand sanitizer, which it will then donate.

The company — which makes drinks such as Absolut Vodka, Jameson Irish Whiskey, and Malibu — is converting its facilities in Fort Smith, Arkansas; Smooth Ambler Spirits, in Lewisburg, West Virginia; Rabbit Hole Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky; and Texas Whiskey Distillery Ft. Worth, Texas.

Fighting the coronavirus is a nationwide effort, and the production of hand sanitizer is a clear example of that effort as distilleries across the US start to alter their production lines to help make more of it during the nation’s massive shortage.

Global air travel is expected to decline for the first time since 2009.

US-based airlines are extending waivers and reducing flight capacity to Europe after President Donald Trump announced a sweeping travel suspension on March 11. Two days later, American, Delta, and United Airlines said they will start capping fares on several US-bound flights for Americans rushing to fly home in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak.

“We are placing caps on our fares for all cabins on flights from Europe to the US that are affected by the government-imposed travel restrictions,” an American Airlines spokesperson told CNBC.

Several carriers also announced cuts in service to domestic routes, as airlines are buckling down to reduce overhead costs. American, Alaska, Delta, and United are expanding and waiving some change and cancellation ticket fees for both domestic and international flights as people reassess their travel plans. Be sure to read the terms and conditions of these waivers, but most airlines are now allowing travelers who booked international and domestic flights to make changes without charge.
