Film Director Franco Zeffirelli Dies at 96

Italian director Franco Zeffirelli, who famously directed the film version of “Romeo and Juliet” as well as some of world’s greatest opera singers, has died. He was 96.

Zeffirelli directed more than two dozen films, including “The Taming of the Shrew” with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and the religious miniseries with an all-star ensemble “Jesus of Nazareth.”

His work on “Romeo and Juliet” remains one of the most successful big screen adaptations of Shakespeare. The film’s popularity has been credited for helped bring Shakespeare to young film goers around the world. It also earned Zeffirelli an Oscar nomination for best director.

In 1990, Zeffirelli once again revisited Shakespeare by casting Mel Gibson in the lead role for “Hamlet”, with Glenn Close as Queen Gertrude.

His lavish work on theater and opera is equally esteemed, having directed La bohème (1982), Tosca (1985), Turandot and Don Giovanni at the New York’s Metropolitan Opera, and Don Carlo with Luciano Pavarotti and Daniela Dessi at Italy’s famed La Scala.

Born in Florence, Tuscany, Italy in 1923, Zeffirelli was the son of a wool and silk dealer and a fashion designer.

Always Sunny’s Rob McElhenney Unveils “Mythic Quest”

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star and creator Rob McElhenney was at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles during Ubisoft’s E3 press conference, where he talked aobut his upcoming new show for Apple TV Plus called “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet.”

The new series was first revealed last summer although not a lot of information was available. At the time, McElhenney was attached to direct another video-game film adaptation, Minecraft, a project he vacated shortly after.

The live-action comedy series was developed by McElhenney, along with his Sunny comrade Charlie Day and executive producer Megan Ganz.

McElhenney is the lead in the series, supposedly playing an egomaniac video game studio director Ian Grimm.

“Like most of the creative directors I’ve met, he has the ego the size of a city bus,” McElhenney said on stage. “I’m going to get my ass kicked backed stage because there are lot of creative directors here.”

Momentum Pictures Announce NEKROTRONIC With Monica Bellucci

Momentum Pictures has announce the release date for NEKROTRONIC, the latest comedy, horror, sci-fi starring Monica Bellucci (The Matrix: Reloaded, Mozart in the Jungle) and David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings).

The film is set for release on select theaters, VOD and digital HD on August 9, 2019.

Directed by Kiah Roache-Turner (Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead) from a script written by Kiah Roache-Turner, Tristan Roache-Turner (Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead), the film co-stars Ben O’Toole (Hacksaw Ridge, The Water Diviner), Caroline Ford (Amazon’s Carnival Row, TV’s Once Upon a Time), Tess Haubrich (The Wolverine, Alien: Covenant), and Epine Bob Savea.

Howard North, a down on his luck sewage worker, gets dragged into a global conflict between the Nekromancers, a family of badass demon hunters, and Finnegan (Monica Bellucci) – an evil demon who absorbs people’s souls to increase her power. First Full Trailer For “Frozen 2” Released

The full-length trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel from Walt Disney Animation has been released, and it looks like another blockbuster winner.

The sequel, a follow-up to the highly successful, billion dollar grossing animated film from 2013, brings back the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel. The original of course was a global blockbuster, grossing $1.27 billion worldwide.

“Elsa, the past is not what it seems,” a troll says in the trailer. “You must find the truth. Go north, across the enchanted land and into the unknown.” The trailer also shows Elsa’s sister, who is similarly in an uncertain situation, and she is in a boat with no less than Olaf.

The original directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are also back and based on this new footage, they have not lost their magical touch one bit. Songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez also return. In the original film, the two took the song “Let It Go” from the film’s soundtrack all the way to academy awards, winning Best Original Song.

“Frozen 2” is set for release later this year on Nov. 22, which by the way is the exact day the original film was released six years ago.

73rd annual Tony Awards: Full List Of Winners

Hadestown was the big winner at Sunday night’s 2019 Tony Awards, taking home eight awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The Ferryman also had a great night, winning four awards including Best Play.

The Glee Project‘s Ali Stroker won best featured actress in a musical for her role in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!”.

“This award is for every kid who is watching tonight who has a disability, who has a limitation or a challenge, who has been waiting to see themselves represented in this arena. You are.”

For the second time, James Corden hosted the event, live from Radio City Music Hall and aired on CBS.

Retro Themed First Poster For ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Revealed

Warner Bros may be skipping the big stages at this summer San Diego Comic-Con, but that didn’t stop director Patty Jenkins from hyping next year’s Wonder Woman 1984.

Marking a year from the film’s release next year, Jenkins tweeted a psychedelic and colorful poster of the film on Wednesday. “One… year… from… TODAY…,” Jenkins posted an image featuring Gal Gadot’s character, looking tough and ready to fight, standing in front of a rainbow-colored background.

Although WB is skipping SDCC, the director promised that promo will be in full swing in December. “By now you’ve heard: WB isn’t going to Hall H this year. We’re so sad to miss you there! And waiting until Dec. to start our official #WW84 campaign in full– But the truth is… we can just… barely… wait…” Jenkins posted.

Wonder Woman 1984 brings back Gal Gadot in the title role, as well as Chris Pine as Diana/Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor, while Kristen Wiig as Barbara Ann Minerva / Cheetah joins the cast.

The film is set to arrive in theaters on June 5, 2020.

Third And Final Show Added To The Eagles’ “Hotel California” Las Vegas Residency

Due to overwhelming demand, a third and final show has been added on Saturday, October 5 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring the Eagles – Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill – performing their iconic album “Hotel California” in its entirety, for the first time in the band’s career. These three concerts are the only North American performances for the Eagles this year.

Each night’s concert – Friday, September 27, Saturday, September 28, and Saturday, October 5 – will also include an additional set of the band’s greatest hits. The shows are scheduled to begin at 8 PM.

Tickets starting at $179 (not including applicable service charges or fees) go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 14 at 10 AM PDT through Ticketmaster.com.

“Hotel California” is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, recently certified 26-times Platinum by the RIAA. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and won two GRAMMY Awards for “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California.” Several of the songs from the album have never been performed since the original “Hotel California” tour. The RIAA also certified “Their Greatest Hits 1971-1977” as the best-selling U.S. album in history (38-times Platinum).

The CW is adding to its summer lineup with a new anthology series, TWO SENTENCE HORROR STORIES, that will consist of eight singularly themed half-hours featuring Nicole Kang (“Batwoman”), Jim Parrack (“Suicide Squad”) and Aleyse Shannon (“Charmed”), among others. TWO SENTENCE HORROR STORIES will premiere with back-to-back episodes Thursday, August 8 (8:00-8:30PM ET/PT and 8:30-9:00PM ET/PT).
