By Armando

Writer Ernest Hemingway casts a long shadow in literature that extends into comic books, where he has appeared alongside Superman, Mickey Mouse and Captain Marvel—he even fought fascists with Wolverine.

Hemingway in Comics, the book and the exhibit at the Comic-Con Museum, explore what it means to be a pop culture icon, and how that image can change over time. Hemingway in Comics celebrates more than 120 of these comics from 18 countries, from the U.S. and Mexico to the Netherlands and Latvia. Artists featured in the show include Chris Ware, Colleen Doran, Cliff Chiang, Steve Rolston, Ryan Inzana, Gabo, Norwegian artist Jason and many others.

The Comic-Con Museum will host a preview of the show in its theater lobby during the July convention, then host the full 60+ artifact exhibition from August to December 2022.

Interviews with author/curator Robert K. Elder are available in advance, as well as with a few select creators featured in the book.

During the convention, a panel will discuss the show on Saturday (11:30 AM -12:30 PM). Panelists include Robert K. Elder (Hemingway in Comics) Elliot S! Maggin (Superman, Action Comics), Zander Cannon (Kaijumax, Smax), Eric Peterson (Jesus Christ: In the Name of the Gun), Dr. Emily Schindler, director of education at the Comic-Con Museum, plus special guests.

Gaiman and Buckingham complete their Miracleman saga this October

Miracleman By Gaiman and BuckinghamAfter thirty years, Gaiman and Buckingham complete their Miracleman saga this October in Miracleman By Gaiman & Buckingham: The Silver Age. Just in time for the 40th anniversary of Miracleman’s modern era, Marvel Comics has announced that Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham’s groundbreaking Miracleman: The Silver Age Saga will return this October.

The two visionary comic talents will complete their unfinished Miracleman storyline “The Silver Age,” including remastered editions of the first two published issues, complete with new artwork and bonus material. The series will follow the previously announced Miracleman By Gaiman & Buckingham: The Silver Age Book 1: The Golden Age TPB, the new collection containing Gaiman and Buckingham’s first Miracleman series. After 30 years, fans will finally see the full incredible story of Young Miracleman with more to come.

Here, Young Miracleman — the lost member of the Miracleman Family is back. His last memories were of a 1963 world of joy and innocence. Now, he’s been thrust into the 21st century, where his best friends have become gods and monsters. Where can a hero from a simpler time call home in this brave new world?

“We’re back! And after thirty years away it is both thrilling and terrifying,” Buckingham said. “Neil and I have had these stories in our heads since 1989 so it is amazing to finally be on the verge of sharing them with our readers.
“I have pushed myself to my limit to craft something special for these issues. Cinematic in approach, clean and elegant, drawing on the best of my own style but also paying homage to the exceptional talents of all who came before us, whose unique visions have shaped this ground-breaking series over forty years, and the 1950’s Marvelman foundations on which it was built.”

Per story, Gaga would play DC’s Harley Quinn but a different incarnation than that played by Margot Robbie’s version from current DC Universe. And it will also be a musical.

The Avengers, X-Men, And Eternals In The A.X.E: Judgment Day Trailer

THE AVENGERS XMEN AND ETERNALSKieron Gillen, Valerio Schiti, and Marte Gracia kick off the biggest Marvel event of the year on July 20

Here, the Avengers have become a more powerful global force than ever from their base inside a long-dead Celestial. The X-Men have achieved a form of immortality on their utopian island nation of Krakoa. And the Eternals have begun a new cycle of life as they continue their sworn mission to eliminate the Deviants.

But when the Eternals learn that mutantkind itself is a form of excess deviation, a vicious assault on Krakoa ensues – with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes trapped in the middle. Get your glimpse at the opening battles in the all-new A.X.E.: JUGDMENT DAY #1 trailer, featuring never-before-seen artwork.

“Honestly, for me, speaking as a reader as much as a writer, there’s nothing worse than an event that comes out of nowhere,” Gillen said in a recent interview with Popverse. “It had to come from the books. So yeah, I was looking at the Avengers, what Jason [Aaron] has built in the mythology there. I was looking at the X-Books, the secrets of Krakoa coming to light, and I was looking at what I was doing in Eternals, which dances with both of them, the various tensions in Eternal society there. And now, that’s stuff going to blow up. It’s just that kind of ‘Oh, look, these are three logical strains that are intersecting, let’s then bring them forth and see what happens with them.'”

First ‘Gotham Knights’ Trailer Gives Audience A First-Look At The Series

Misha Collins from The CW Gotham KnightsA new trailer for The CW’s upcoming series “Gotham Knights” has been released, and it features the demise of Bruce Wayne aka Batman, among other surprises.

In the trailer, we see Misha Collins as Harvey Dent, breaking the news to Turner Hayes that Wayne has been murdered. It appears that Hayes, as well as three other teens are to be the suspects.

To be presented by CW in 2023, the series does not exist within the world of “Arrowverse.” And though the series centers around the Dark Knight, the series is not to be confused with the video game of the same name.

Olivia Rose Keegan, Navia Robinson, Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara star alongside Misha Collins. “Gotham Knights” is written by Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams.

Here’s the official synopsis for ‘Gotham Knights’:

Batman is dead, and a powder keg has ignited Gotham City without the Dark Knight to protect it. In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his adopted son Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan, “De Son Vivant”) is framed for killing the Caped Crusader, along with the children of some of Batman’s enemies: Duela (Olivia Rose Keegan, “Days of Our Lives”), an unpredictable fighter and skilled thief who was born in Arkham Asylum and abandoned by her father, Harper Row (Fallon Smythe, “grown-ish”), a streetwise and acerbic engineer who can fix anything, and her brother Cullen Row (Tyler DiChiara, “The Virgin of Highland Park”), a clever transgender teen who is tired of being polite and agreeable. With the charismatic and hard-charging District Attorney Harvey Dent (Misha Collins, “Supernatural”) and the GCPD hot on their trail, Turner will rely on allies including his best friend and formidable coder Stephanie Brown (Anna Lore, “All American”), and unlikely Batman sidekick Carrie Kelley (Navia Robinson, “Raven’s Home”). But our Knights will soon learn there is a larger, more nefarious force at work within Gotham City. This team of mismatched fugitives must band together to become its next generation of saviors known as the GOTHAM KNIGHTS.
