SDCC News: Apple’s hit drama ‘Silo’ to make San Diego Comic-Con debut with Rebecca Ferguson, Common, creator/showrunner Graham Yost, EP/author Hugh Howey.

Apple TV+ today announced that “Silo,” its globally acclaimed and hit world-building drama based on Hugh Howey’s New York Times bestselling trilogy, will make its San Diego Comic-Con debut on Saturday July 27, 2024 for a panel and conversation around what fans can look forward to in the highly anticipated second season of “Silo” featuring star and executive producer Rebecca Ferguson, star Common, creator and showrunner Graham Yost and executive producer Hugh Howey, plus surprise special guests. The panel will be moderated by Adam Savage (Editor-in-Chief, Tested.com).

“Silo” is the story of the last ten thousand people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built and any who try to find out face fatal consequences. Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer, who seeks answers about a loved one’s murder and tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don’t kill you, the truth will.

Fans can catch up on the first season, now streaming globally on Apple TV+. Following its global premiere in May 2023, “Silo” was quickly hailed as a “riveting and equally star-studded,” “must-watch” series and “simply transcendent sci-fi TV.” In addition to quickly reaching Certified Fresh status on Rotten Tomatoes, season one landed acclaim for its “rich and compelling” world-building elements, as well as the “incredible” performance by Ferguson, who “brings an understated gravitas” to the lead role.

SDCC 2024: Nickelodeon Commemorates 25 Years of Spongebob Squarepants With Larger-Than-Life Tribute To Original Pilot Episode At Comic-Con International: San Diego 2024

Nickelodeon is commemorating 25 years of SpongeBob SquarePants with an immersive larger-than-life tribute to the original pilot episode, that sparked the global pop culture phenomenon, at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2024. Its 1,800 square-foot booth (#4113) on the convention center floor will re-create and transport fans into the “Help Wanted” episode with 3D-animation, augmented reality (AR) and replicas of SpongeBob’s pineapple home, The Krusty Krab and the Barg’N-Mart.

Every day of the convention, Nickelodeon’s booth will feature: a slow-motion video opportunity inside SpongeBob’s 20-foot-tall pineapple home, where attendees will virtually pump weights to prepare for the big job interview; a photo opportunity on The Krusty Krab Mast; an interactive game inside The Krusty Krab, where fans can virtually feed hungry anchovies in a race against the clock; a Barg’N-Mart retail area, where attendees can purchase a variety of exclusive Nick gear and one-of-a-kind collectibles; costumed character appearances; and autograph signings with the cast and producers of SpongeBob SquarePants, and hosts of Avatar: Braving the Elements podcast.

Nickelodeon will present two panels during the convention: “Celebrating 25 Years of Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants,” a panel that will take fans down to Bikini Bottom and beyond; and “Avatar: Braving the Elements – Live! with Janet Varney & Dante Basco,” where attendees will jump into the Avatarverse.

LAIKA announces Live Action Film CRUMBLE with Brian Duffield Writing and Directing and Lord Miller Producing

Award-winning studio LAIKA is bolstering its Live Action slate by acquiring Crumble, an original script by Brian Duffield (Spontaneous, No One Will Save You), who will direct. Oscar® winners Phil Lord and Chris Miller as well as Aditya Sood will produce through their Lord Miller banner. Duffield will also produce. Lucy Kitada and Nikki Baida from Lord Miller will serve as executive producers.

Crumble tells the tale of a married couple who go on a world-traversing adventure in the hope of finding a cure to an ancient curse.

LAIKA’s President, Live Action Film & Series Matt Levin made the announcement today.

“We’re so excited to partner with Brian and the entire team at Lord Miller on this special film,” said Levin. “Brian has such a singular voice and Crumble perfectly embodies the bold, emotional, and inventive storytelling that we champion at LAIKA. Ghost Machine has revealed a first look of the covers for its highly anticipated horror universe Hyde Street at its panel during FanExpo Denver over the weekend. The ongoing, monthly Hyde Street series begins with issue #1 on October 2 and the one-shot It Happened on Hyde Street: Devour which will hit shelves just in time for Halloween.

A new epic era in character-centered horror begins as Ghost Machine launches Hyde Street, its newest ongoing series from legendary creators Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, whose long-running collaboration prior to Ghost Machine produced iconic titles Blackest Night: Green Lantern, and Aquaman. “Best Christmas Pageant Ever” Debuts First Trailer

Lionsgate has released a new trailer for its upcoming comedy from director Dallas Jenkins “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. Jenkins is also the creator of the Bible-based series “The Chosen”.

The holiday themed film stars Judy Greer, Pete Holmes, Elizabeth Tabish, and Lauren Graham, with Stephanie Sy and Kirk B.R. Woller. It is an adaptation of Barbara Robinson’s 1972 novel by the same name.

Here is the film’s synopsis: The Herdmans – Gladys, Claude, Imogene, Leroy, Ollie and Ralph – are undeniably the worst kids in the history of the world. They lie, steal, cheat, bully and overall terrorize their small community. But this Christmas, they’re taking over their local church Pageant – and they just might unwittingly teach a shocked little town the true meaning of Christmas.

Blumhouse Reveals Trailer For Its Upcoming AI Thriller “Afraid”

Blumhouse’s upcoming horror film stars John Cho and Katherine Waterston as a couple facing off a powerful digital assistant.

Afraid” is from Chris Weitz, writer-director who, along with his brother Paul Weitz, wrote and directed “About a Boy” and “The Golden Compass

In the film, Curtis (John Cho) and his family are selected to test a revolutionary new home device: a digital family assistant called AIA. Taking smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, AIA seems able to do it all. She learns the family’s behaviors and begins to anticipate their needs. And she can make sure nothing – and no one – gets in her family’s way.

Also in the movie are Havana Rose Liu, Lukita Maxwell, David Dastmalchian and Keith Carradine.

Columbia Pictures and Blumhouse is set to release “Afraid” in theaters on Aug. 30. Watch the trailer below.

‘1992’ Thriller Official Trailer With Tyrese Gibson and Ray Liotta

Lionsagte has premiered the official trailer for its upcoming new action thriller “1992”.

Starring Tyrese Gibson, Scott Eastwood and Ray Liotta, the film is set for release on August 30, 2024. 1992″ is directed by Ariel Vromen, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Sascha Penn. Snoop Dogg serves as an executive producer through his production company Death Row Pictures.

“1992” follows Mercer (Tyrese Gibson), who is desperately trying to rebuild his life and his relationship with his son (Christopher A’mmanuel) amidst the turbulent 1992 LA uprising following the Rodney King verdict. Across town, another father and son (Ray Liotta and Scott Eastwood) put their own strained relationship to the test as they plot a dangerous heist at the factory where Mercer works. As tensions rise in Los Angeles and chaos erupts, both families reach their boiling points when they collide in this tense crime-thriller.

The movie also stars Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola, and Oleg Taktarov.

Queens-Based Festival of Cinema NYC 2024 Announces Film Lineup for Next Month’s Fest

Festival of Cinema NYC returns to the Regal UA Midway in Forest Hills for the 8th edition of the popular Queens-based film festival, running from August 2-11. Additional venues this year include the Queens Public Library at Forest Hills, and Yant Tattoo Studios – the Official Filmmaker Lounge. This year the festival expands its programming with special presentations at the Queens Center Mall in Rego Park. The festival opens with Ivy Vale’s coming of age musical Out of My Comfort Zone and closes with the world premiere of Delfine Paolini’s A Wonderful Way with Dragons.

Additional world premieres among the feature film lineup include Laura Angiulli’s I Know You, Harrison Dillingham’s Mortimer, and Charles Caracciolo’s The Old Ballgame: The QBH Story. Dark Sky Films’ Horror Comedy “BOOGER” Trailer Released

Dark Sky Films is set to release BOOGER to select theaters and digital/VOD on September 13th. BOOGER is the debut feature from writer-director Mary Dauterman and stars Strawberry Mansion’s Grace Glowicki.

It blends “body horror with comedy in a story of intense female friendship and its tragic loss, all backgrounded by a tale of supernatural transformation.”

The film follows New Yorker Anna (Grace Glowicki, Strawberry Mansion), who has just suffered the sudden and unexpected death of her best friend and roommate, Izzy (Sofia Dobrushin, Mean Girls 2024 ). She’s trying to handle this loss when Izzy’s cat, Booger, runs away. Anna goes on a desperate search to find him and in the process, she is bitten on the hand by the cat. She soon begins to take on feline characteristics. and her work life and relationship with her boyfriend start to go downhill.

The film also stars Garrick Bernard (Single Drunk Female), Marcia DeBonis (Sometimes I Think About Dying, 13 Going on 30), David Rysdahl (Oppenheimer, Fargo) and indie icon Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Scream 3).
