Marvel’s Stormbreakers Celebrate 20 Years Of The Young Guns/Stormbreakers Program In New Variant Covers

2024 will mark 20 years of Marvel Comics spotlighting and elevating the industry’s most powerful artists as Marvel’s Stormbreakers, the evolution of the groundbreaking Marvel’s Young Guns program.

To celebrate, the current class will pay tribute to the original class of Young Guns in January’s collection of STORMBREAKERS VARIANT COVERS.

Throughout January, the elite artists will depict some of Marvel’s current headlining stars in separate pinup pieces that will unite to form an epic jam piece just like the one the first Young Guns crafted in 2004. While January’s covers will feature the individual characters, fans can also check out the complete jam piece today.

Each month, Marvel’s Stormbreakers bring their incredible talents to your favorite comic series and characters and flex their skills with exciting themed variant cover collections.

The current group of artists includes Elena Casagrande, Nic Klein, Jan Bazaldua, Chris Allen, Martín Cóccolo,Lucas Werneck, Federico Vicentini, and C.F. Villa. Each of these artists embody the raw talent and creative potential to shatter the limits of visual storytelling in comics today.

Lumberjanes Meet Buffy In Upcoming Miniseries “The Cabinet”

Eisner and Harvey Award nominated writer Jordan Hart (Ripple Effects) and co-writer David Ebeltoft team up with up-and-coming artist Chiara Raimondi for the vibrant and magical five-issue miniseries, The Cabinet. This technicolor-drenched, tongue-in-cheek adventure begins in February 2024 from Image Comics’ Syzygy line.

Each vibrant issue will also feature an interconnected variant cover by Eisner, Shuster, Manning, and GLADD Award nominated artist Marguerite Sauvage (Faith, Bombshells).

The Cabinet follows an Indian-American teen, Avani, and midwestern jock, Trent, on a teleporting mission across a post-Cold War landscape to collect bizarre relics. Why? Well, because they need to summon the arcane powers of a resplendent 17th-century cabinet to fix a teeny-tiny mistake the last time Avani used it… a gaffe that inadvertently unleashed an ancient evil from its prison and killed her parents.

“Equally beautiful and creepy, medieval Display Cabinets (Kabinettschranks) inspired David and I after seeing one in person at a local museum,” said Hart. “We immediately knew we wanted to build a story around a baroque version with arcane power—but sidestepped a dark, gothic horror tale in favor of a vibrant supernatural adventure set in the early ’90s. The result is a world that combines Constantine with Clarissa Explains It All through a Lisa Frank-esque lens that only Chiara could deliver.”

Official Trailer: “Madame Web” Gives First Glimpse at Spider-Man Spinoff

Sony Pictures has just released the official trailer for the upcoming film “Madame Web”, the Spider-Man spinoff which stars Dakota Johnson as the title character, along with Sydney Sweeney playing Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman.

Although it is described as a standalone origin film, it is connected to the Spider-Man cinematic universe. Here, Johnson plays Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan and clairvoyant with psychic abilities that let her tap into the spider world.

S. J. Clarkson helms “Madame Web”, which is Sony’s first female-led Marvel movie. Also in the film are Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott.

“Meanwhile, in another universe…” In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures…if they can all survive a deadly present.

Pat Mitchell to Receive Vanguard Award for Philanthropy at Sundance Film Festival’s Opening Night Gala: Celebrating 40 Years Presented by Chase Sapphire®

The nonprofit Sundance Institute today revealed an additional honoree of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival’s fundraiser, Opening Night Gala: Celebrating 40 Years Presented by Chase Sapphire®, which will take place on January 18, 2024, at the DeJoria Center in Utah. The gala, which kicks off the 40th edition of the Sundance Film Festival, celebrates individuals who have made notable contributions to the storytelling landscape. This year, former Sundance Institute Board Chair and trustee Pat Mitchell will receive the Vanguard Award for Philanthropy, recognizing her exemplary commitment to the Institute’s support and to philanthropy for social impact.

As previously announced, the Opening Night Gala will also recognize Christopher Nolan, who will be honored with the inaugural Sundance Institute Trailblazer Award. Celine Song and Maite Alberdi — who premiered their films Past Lives and The Eternal Memory, respectively, at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival — will each receive the annual Vanguard Award Presented by Acura.

The annual Opening Night Gala enables the nonprofit to raise critical funds to support independent artists year-round through labs, grants, and public programming that nurture artists globally. The 2024 event is made possible with the generous support of Chase Sapphire and the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation. The upcoming Sundance Film Festival will take place January 18–28, 2024, in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as online from January 25–28.

Blumhouse’s “Imaginary” Official Trailer Released

Blumhouse and Lionsgate have recently released the trailer for the upcoming supernatural horror film “Imaginary”, which was also attached to Five Nights at Freddy’s.

The film itself is from the producer of ‘M3GAN’ and ‘Five Nights at Freddys’, and is a concept-driven horror about childhood imagination.

Directed by Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down, Kick-Ass 2) ,the film stars DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, Taegan Burns, Pyper Braun, with Veronica Falcon, and Betty Buckle

Imaginary is set to be released by Lionsgate on March 8, 2024

New Trailer and Poster Release: Daisy Ridley In “Sometimes I Think About Dying”

The first trailer for “Sometimes I Think About Dying”, the upcoming film from director Rachel Lambert has been released.

Based on the 2013 play, Killers by Armento, the film stars Daisy Ridley, who is also credited as one of the producers, along with Alex Saks, Dori Rath, Lauren Beveridge and Brett Beveridge.

“Sometimes I Think About Dying” premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year.

The romantic comedy-drama is written by Kevin Armento, Stefanie Abel Horowitz, Katy Wright-Mead. Also in the cast are Dave Merheje, Parvesh Cheena, and Marcia DeBonis. The film is set for release on January 26, 2023.

Lost on the dreary Oregon coast, Fran finds solace in her cubicle, listening to the constant hum of officemates and occasionally daydreaming to pass the time. She is ghosting through life, unable to pop her bubble of isolation, when a friendly new coworker, Robert, persistently tries to connect with her. Though it goes against every fiber of her being, she may have to give this guy a chance. Director Rachel Lambert and team craft beautiful cinema for this delicately told story of love for the socially awkward and emotionally challenged. Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy And The Heron” Sets Release In IMAX

The Japanese animated fantasy film from acclaimed animator, filmmaker, and manga artist Hayao Miyazaki is set for release in IMAX.

The one-week only release on IMAX® on December 8 will have an exclusive early previews on December 4.

“The Boy And The Heron” made its international premiere as Opening Night Gala of the 48th Toronto International Film Festival. Tickets to all five TIFF screenings sold out in record time, and the film received glowing reviews and placed top three for the TIFF People’s Choice Awards. The film made its U.S. premiere at the New York Film Festival, its European Premiere as the Opening Night of San Sebastian International Film Festival, and made its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival. The film was presented in IMAX at LA’s Chinese Theater as Opening Night of the Animation is Film Festival.

The Japanese cast includes Soma Santoki, Masaki Suda, Ko Shibasaki, AIMYON, Yoshino Kimura, Takuya Kimura, Keiko Takeshita, Jun Fubuki, Sawako Agawa, Karen Takizawa, Shinobu Otake, Jun Kunimura, Kaoru Kobayashi, Shohei Hino. Robert Downey Jr. To Receive The Maltin Modern Master Award At 39th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is honored to announce that cinema icon Robert Downey Jr. will receive the Maltin Modern Master Award, its highest accolade, at the 39th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Downey Jr. will receive the prestigious award on Friday, February 9, 2024.

The ceremony will include an in-person conversation between Downey and legendary film historian and critic Leonard Maltin, for whom the award is named. The duo will discuss Downey’s expansive five-decade acting career, his rise to becoming one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful actors to date, culminating in his recent searing, indelible performance as Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s staggering, global cinematic phenomenon, Oppenheimer.

Robert Downey Jr. is a two-time Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner who has amassed more than 110 acting credits over the course of his career, including the title character in the blockbuster Iron Man franchise, which launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reshaped the last 15 years of global cinema. He earned a Golden Globe Award for his lead performance in the action-adventure Sherlock Holmes, and two Academy Award nominations for Tropic Thunder, and his powerful portrayal of Charlie Chaplin in Richard Attenborough’s 1992 biopic Chaplin. Today, famed musician and singer-songwriter Bryan Adams announced the extension of his highly successful So Happy It Hurts Tour with 31 dates slated for next year. Produced by Live Nation, the 2024 run kicks off on Saturday, January 20 in Billings, MT at First Interstate Arena at MetraPark, with stops across North America in San Jose, El Paso, Mexico City, Orlando, Pittsburgh, and more before wrapping up on Wednesday, March 20 in Syracuse, NY at Upstate Medical University Arena at The Oncenter War Memorial. Ryan Gosling To Receive SBIFF’s 16th Annual Kirk Douglas Award For Excellence In Film

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is honored to announce that Ryan Gosling will be receiving the 16th annual Kirk Douglas Award For Excellence in Film. Gosling’s incredible range as a performer can currently be seen in this year’s critically acclaimed cinematic standout, BARBIE. The prestigious award, which benefits Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s year-round educational programs, will be presented on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at a Black-Tie dinner at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara. This marks the second time since the passing of screen legend Kirk Douglas that the honor will be awarded.
