LAIKA announces Live Action Film CRUMBLE with Brian Duffield Writing and Directing and Lord Miller Producing

laikaAward-winning studio LAIKA is bolstering its Live Action slate by acquiring Crumble, an original script by Brian Duffield (Spontaneous, No One Will Save You), who will direct. Oscar® winners Phil Lord and Chris Miller as well as Aditya Sood will produce through their Lord Miller banner. Duffield will also produce.  Lucy Kitada and Nikki Baida from Lord Miller will serve as executive producers. 
 
Crumble tells the tale of a married couple who go on a world-traversing adventure in the hope of finding a cure to an ancient curse.
 
LAIKA’s President, Live Action Film & Series Matt Levin made the announcement today.
 
“We’re so excited to partner with Brian and the entire team at Lord Miller on this special film,” said Levin.  “Brian has such a singular voice and Crumble perfectly embodies the bold, emotional, and inventive storytelling that we champion at LAIKA. Image/Ghost Machine Reveals Covers For Horror Series Hyde Street And One-Shot-It Happened On Hyde Street: Devour Coming This October

devourGhost Machine has revealed a first look of the covers for its highly anticipated horror universe Hyde Street at its panel during FanExpo Denver over the weekend. The ongoing, monthly Hyde Street series begins with issue #1 on October 2 and the one-shot It Happened on Hyde Street: Devour which will hit shelves just in time for Halloween.

A new epic era in character-centered horror begins as Ghost Machine launches Hyde Street, its newest ongoing series from legendary creators Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, whose long-running collaboration prior to Ghost Machine produced iconic titles Blackest Night: Green Lantern, and Aquaman. The series will also be colored by Brad Anderson, inked by Danny Miki, and lettered by Rob Leigh. 

In every city and town, off every country road and metropolis avenue, if you make a wrong turn in your soul… you might find yourself on Hyde Street. “Best Christmas Pageant Ever” Debuts First Trailer

best-christmas-pageant-everLionsgate has released a new trailer for its upcoming comedy from director Dallas Jenkins “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. Jenkins is also the creator of the Bible-based series “The Chosen”.

The holiday themed film stars Judy Greer, Pete Holmes, Elizabeth Tabish, and Lauren Graham, with Stephanie Sy and Kirk B.R. Woller. It is an adaptation of Barbara Robinson’s 1972 novel by the same name.

Here is the film’s synopsis: The Herdmans – Gladys, Claude, Imogene, Leroy, Ollie and Ralph – are undeniably the worst kids in the history of the world. They lie, steal, cheat, bully and overall terrorize their small community. But this Christmas, they’re taking over their local church Pageant – and they just might unwittingly teach a shocked little town the true meaning of Christmas.

Blumhouse Reveals Trailer For Its Upcoming AI Thriller “Afraid”

afraidBlumhouse’s upcoming horror film stars John Cho and Katherine Waterston as a couple facing off a powerful digital assistant.

Afraid” is from Chris Weitz, writer-director who, along with his brother Paul Weitz, wrote and directed “About a Boy” and “The Golden Compass

In the film, Curtis (John Cho) and his family are selected to test a revolutionary new home device: a digital family assistant called AIA. Taking smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, AIA seems able to do it all. She learns the family’s behaviors and begins to anticipate their needs. And she can make sure nothing – and no one – gets in her family’s way.

Also in the movie are Havana Rose Liu, Lukita Maxwell, David Dastmalchian and Keith Carradine.

Columbia Pictures and Blumhouse is set to release “Afraid” in theaters on Aug. 30. Watch the trailer below.

‘1992’ Thriller Official Trailer With Tyrese Gibson and Ray Liotta

1992Lionsagte has premiered the official trailer for its upcoming new action thriller “1992”.

Starring Tyrese Gibson, Scott Eastwood and Ray Liotta, the film is set for release on August 30, 2024. 1992″ is directed by Ariel Vromen, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Sascha Penn. Snoop Dogg serves as an executive producer through his production company Death Row Pictures.

“1992” follows Mercer (Tyrese Gibson), who is desperately trying to rebuild his life and his relationship with his son (Christopher A’mmanuel) amidst the turbulent 1992 LA uprising following the Rodney King verdict. Across town, another father and son (Ray Liotta and Scott Eastwood) put their own strained relationship to the test as they plot a dangerous heist at the factory where Mercer works. As tensions rise in Los Angeles and chaos erupts, both families reach their boiling points when they collide in this tense crime-thriller.

The movie also stars Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola, and Oleg Taktarov.

Queens-Based Festival of Cinema NYC 2024 Announces Film Lineup for Next Month’s Fest

Additional venues this year include the Queens Public Library at Forest Hills, and Yant Tattoo Studios – the Official Filmmaker Lounge. This year the festival expands its programming with special presentations at the Queens Center Mall in Rego Park. The festival opens with Ivy Vale’s coming of age musical Out of My Comfort Zone and closes with the world premiere of Delfine Paolini’s A Wonderful Way with Dragons.

Additional world premieres among the feature film lineup include Laura Angiulli’s I Know You, Harrison Dillingham’s Mortimer, and Charles Caracciolo’s The Old Ballgame: The QBH Story. Dark Sky Films’ Horror Comedy “BOOGER” Trailer Released

booger-horror-comedyDark Sky Films is set to release BOOGER to select theaters and digital/VOD on September 13th. BOOGER is the debut feature from writer-director Mary Dauterman and stars Strawberry Mansion’s Grace Glowicki.

It blends “body horror with comedy in a story of intense female friendship and its tragic loss, all backgrounded by a tale of supernatural transformation.”

The film follows New Yorker Anna (Grace Glowicki, Strawberry Mansion), who has just suffered the sudden and unexpected death of her best friend and roommate, Izzy (Sofia Dobrushin, Mean Girls 2024 ). She’s trying to handle this loss when Izzy’s cat, Booger, runs away. Anna goes on a desperate search to find him and in the process, she is bitten on the hand by the cat. She soon begins to take on feline characteristics. and her work life and relationship with her boyfriend start to go downhill.

The film also stars Garrick Bernard (Single Drunk Female), Marcia DeBonis (Sometimes I Think About Dying, 13 Going on 30), David Rysdahl (Oppenheimer, Fargo) and indie icon Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Scream 3).

John Cena & Awkwafina in Dark Comedy “Jackpot!”

jackpotAmazon MGM Studios has released the full trailer for its upcoming action comedy “Jackpot” which star Awkwafina, John Cena and Simu Liu.

In the film set in the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot. When Katie Kim (Awkwafina) moves to Los Angeles, she mistakenly finds herself with the winning ticket.

Desperate to survive the hordes of jackpot hunters, she reluctantly joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena) who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of her prize. However, Noel must face off with his slick rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who also seeks to collect Katie’s commission at all costs.

Directed by Paul Feig, Jackpot! also stars Ayden Mayeri, Donald Elise Watkins, Murray Hill, and Sam Asghari and is set to premiere on August 15 on Prime Video.
