Cate Blanchett To Receive 38th Annual SBIFF Outstanding Performer Of The Year AwardCate Blanchett will receive the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award at the 38th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Blanchett will be honored on Friday, February 10, 2023 for her critically acclaimed portrayal of Lydia Tár in Todd Feld’s TÁR from Focus Features. Setting a historic record, this is the second time Blanchett will be feted at the festival as the Outstanding Performer of the Year.

In 2014, she received the honor for her role as Jasmine French in BLUE JASMINE. In 2008, she was crowned the Modern Master Award for her role as Queen Elizabeth in ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE and as multi-faceted Bob Dylan in I’M NOT THERE.

“Cate Blanchett is an artist that has nothing left to prove; she is one of the most brilliant actresses ever – yet she keeps challenging herself and proving over and over again that she’s the most outstanding performer!” SBIFF’s Executive Director Roger Durling noted.

Cate Blanchett is an internationally acclaimed, Academy Award-winning actor, producer, artistic director, humanitarian, and dedicated member of the arts community. Blanchett plays the titular role and executive produces Todd Field’s highly anticipated feature film “TÁR,” which marks the writer-director-producer’s first film in over 15 years. The film was warmly welcomed at the Telluride Film Festival and Venice International Film Festival, where Blanchett was awarded the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress for her second time since I’m Not There. This fall, Blanchett will appear in Guillermo Del Toro’s latest film, “PINOCCHIO,” and the mockumentary hit series “Documentary Now!” She has now begun production in Australia on Warwick Thornton’s “The New Boy,” in which she stars and produces via the production company Dirty Films. She most recently wrapped production on “Disclaimer,” directed by Alfonso Cuaron, in which she also stars and executive produces. In 2021, Blanchett appeared in Adam McKay’s smash hit, Don’t Look Up, as well as Guillermo Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley.

“Crossing” begins at the end of the Cold War with a dream and delivers us to the United States, 20 years later where those dreams are in jeopardy.

In the final years of the Cold War, a Soviet family splinters along East/West lines. Henry Cavill And Eiza González Set To Lead WWII Action Spy Flick

Henry Cavill at ComiconHenry Cavill and Eiza González have been tapped to lead “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” under the direction of Guy Ritchie, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

The film will reunite Cavill and Ritchie, who worked together in the 2015 spy film “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”

The project was initially announced back in 2021, and is currently set to start shooting next year. Based on Damien Lewis’s book Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the film tells the story of real-life secret combat organization that was created by Winston Churchill and James Bond creator Ian Fleming which conducted unconventional ‘ungentlemanly’ operations against the Nazis.

Cavill recently announced that he will be exiting from Netflix’s “The Witcher” where he starred as Geralt of Rivia for three seasons. The actor also confirmed last week that he is returning Superman, s following his cameo in the new Warner Bros-DC film “Black Adam.”

Eiza González wasa recently seen in Michael Bay’s “Ambulance” nad wwill will next be see in Netflix’s sci-fi pic The Three Body Problem and Scott Z Burns’ Extrapolations for Apple TV+.

“I Am DB Cooper” Sets Release In Theaters And On-Demand

I Am DB CooperThe documentary “I Am DB Cooper”, directed by TJ Regan, has set its release on December 9th, 2022 in theaters and on demand.

In the documentary, two bounty hunter brothers encounter an ailing old man named Rodney Bonnifield while coordinating his bail after a violent encounter on a dairy farm involving a machete.

Close to his sentencing, he reveals to the bondsmen that he is in fact the infamous DB Cooper, the man responsible for the 1971 plane hijacking in the Pacific Northwest, and the ransom cash is still buried along the Columbia River.

Up against the clock with Rodney’s prison sentence looming, the group sets out on a modern-day treasure hunt to recover the money he buried near the river 50 years ago, uncovering bizarre truths about Rodney Bonnifield and his connection to the only unsolved plane hijacking in U.S. history.

A Slow Grind Media production, the film is co-written by Regan and Sharmila Sahni. Produced by Regan, Sahni, Corey Molina, and John Miller, and executive produced by Regan, Isaiah Thomas, Mike Rocha, and Carlos Rocha.

MY FATHER’S DRAGON, directed by Oscar® nominee Nora Twomey (“The Breadwinner”), took home the Special Jury Prize. This year’s Audience Award went to AURORA’S SUNRISE directed by Inna Sahakyan, and the Shorts Jury Prize was awarded to ICE MERCHANTS directed by João Gonzalez.

In addition to earning AIF’s Grand Jury Prize, LITTLE NICOLAS (Le Petit Nicolas) is the 2022 winner of the prestigious Annecy’s Cristal award. IDA Announces Shortlists For 2022 IDA Documentary Awards

The International Documentary Association (IDA) has announced the shortlists for the 38th IDA Documentary Awards that is set to be held on December 10, 2022, at the Paramount Theater on the Paramount Studios Lot in Los Angeles. The nominee announcement is set on Friday, November 11, 2022.

Rick Pérez, IDA’s Executive Director, stated: “This year’s Best Feature Documentary and Best Short Documentary shortlists reflect a growing awareness that multiple perspectives are necessary to better reflect the worldwide popularity of the form and to recognize the global community of artists working in the field.”

Among those shortlisted for Best Feature Documentary are After A Revolution, All that Breathes, Fire of Love, Delikado, Moonage Daydream, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, and Singing on the Rooftops.

This year’s shortlists and nominees are selected by independent committees of 310 documentary makers, curators, critics, and industry experts from 52 countries. A total of 806 submissions in all categories were received, 40% of which are internationally produced or co-produced projects from 86 countries.

The IDA Documentary Awards is the world’s most distinguished event dedicated exclusively to the documentary genre, celebrating and honoring the year’s best nonfiction films, series, audio documentaries, and programs. It seeks to represent excellence in the documentary field from around the world, by emerging and established docmakers.
