Dark Sky Films Brings Lauded “LOLA” to Theaters and VOD

LOLA is a sci-fi drama set in 1940 England, which follows enterprising sisters Thomasina “Thom” Hanbury (Emma Appleton, Everything I Know About Love, The Witcher, Pistol, Traitors) and Martha “Mars” Hanbury (Stefanie Martini, Prime Suspect 73, The Last Kingdom, Make Up, Crooked House) who have built a machine, LOLA, that can intercept radio and TV broadcasts from the future.

The device gives them an exciting preview of the world to come, including music by the likes of David Bowie and the Kinks. But with World War II escalating, the sisters decide to use the machine as a weapon of intelligence, with world-altering consequences.

The film is director Andrew Legge’s feature debut, and written by Andrew Legge & Angeli Macfarlane.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
1941, sisters Thom and Mars have built a machine, LOLA, that can intercept radio and TV broadcasts from the future. This allows them to listen to iconic music before it has been made, place bets knowing what the outcome will be and embrace their inner punk well before the movement came into existence.

But with the Second World War escalating, the sisters decide to use the machine for good to intercept information from the future that could help with military intelligence. The machine initially proves to be a huge success, rapidly twisting the fortunes of the war against the Nazis. MGM+ Renews Sci-Fi Horror Series FROM for Season Three

MGM+, a premium linear channel and streaming service, announced today that the contemporary sci-fi horror series FROM has been renewed for a 10-episode third season. Created and executive produced by John Griffin (Crater) and executive produced by showrunner Jeff Pinkner (Lost, Alias, Fringe), and director Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones), the series unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. In the wake of Season Two’s epic cliffhanger, escape will become a tantalizing and very real possibility as the true nature of the town comes into focus, and the townspeople go on offense against the myriad horrors surrounding them. The series is set to return in 2024.

FROM is the second-most viewed series in the history of the premium network, behind the Emmy winning Godfather of Harlem, starring Forest Whitaker and co-created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein (Narcos).

The series stars Harold Perrineau (Lost) and an ensemble cast which includes Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace, The Affair), Eion Bailey (Band of Brothers, Once Upon a Time), Hannah Cheramy (Under Wraps, Van Helsing), Simon Webster (Strays), Ricky He (The Good Doctor), Chloe Van Landschoot (Charity, Skin), Corteon Moore (Utopia Falls), Pegah Ghafoori (The Perfect Wedding), David Alpay (Castle Rock), Elizabeth Saunders (Clarice), Elizabeth Moy, Avery Konrad (Honor Society), and Scott McCord (East of Middle West). Joining the ensemble in Season Two were Nathan D. Simmons (Diggstown, This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Kaelen Ohm (Hit & Run, Eumenides Falls), Angela Moore (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Maid), A.J. Simmons (Reacher), and Deborah Grover (My Next Door Nightmare, Jann).

“The first two seasons of FROM captivated critics and terrified and engaged fans, who have formed a thriving online community that is trying to put the pieces together week by week as the secrets of the nightmarish town—and possibly beyond—are slowly revealed,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “We can’t wait for fans to see the surprises ahead in Season Three, which promises more scares and mysteries, but also more answers.”

Official Trailer for New Sci-Fi Romance “Poor Things” Released

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the movie follows a young woman who is brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn.

Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn, a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

“Poor Things” stars Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael Christopher Abbott.

The film is set for release on September 8, 2023 by Searchlight Pictures.

Stunning New “Dune: Part Two” Trailer Released

The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve, is a follow-up to the 2021 blockbuster hit Dune, which was itself an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel of the same name.

The trailer gives fans a glimpse of the epic scale of the film, as well as returning cast Timothée Chalamet as Paul, and Zendaya as Chani. Also returning are Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista and Javier Bardem and introduces new characters played by Austin Butler and Florence Pugh.

Paramount+ Reveals First Look Character Portraits For “Star Trek: Picard” Season Three

paramount picardParamount+ today revealed a first look at character portraits of the cast that will star in season three of STAR TREK: PICARD. The character portraits were revealed by executive producer Alex Kurtzman during the “Star Trek” universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Season three will debut on Paramount+ in 2023.

STAR TREK: PICARD features Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and follows this iconic character into the next chapter of his life. LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd star alongside Patrick Stewart in the third and final season of the hit Paramount+ original series.

The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. For season three, Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Doug Aarniokoski and Dylan Massin serve as executive producers. Disney plus Shares First Look At National Treasure Edge of HistoryThe new Disney+ Original series “National Treasure: Edge of History,” based on the hit film franchise, made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con today, complete with a Ballroom 20 panel, a new teaser trailer, and a behind-the-scenes look at the series. Moderated by comedian and influencer Jenny Lorenzo (“What’s Up, Disney+”), the panel featured series stars Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, Lyndon Smith and executive producers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley. Additionally, it was announced that Harvey Keitel (“Pulp Fiction”), who played Peter Sadusky in the “National Treasure” film franchise, will join the series as a guest star in the same role. The Disney Branded Television series is produced by ABC Signature for Disney+.

The series focuses on a young heroine, Jess (Lisette Olivera), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.

During the panel, executive producers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley shared their vision for the reboot of the smash hit franchise and how incredibly thrilled they are to showcase this dream cast for the series, which also includes Academy and Tony Award®-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. It was previously announced that Justin Bartha will guest star in the series, reprising his role as Riley Poole.

Ignite Films is set to release a sensational new 4K restoration of the sci-fi classic Invaders From Mars in all its terrifying color, just in time for its 70th anniversary. Fearful memories of this timeless 1953 bone-chiller still haunt the dreams of fans who have never forgotten the story of a young boy (Jimmy Hunt) who witnesses an alien invasion.

The newly restored version of Invaders From Mars will have its first public showcase screening at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood on April 23. Jimmy Hunt will be in attendance at the TCM Classic Film Festival screening.

Pre-orders for the 4K UHD Blu-ray launched in the United States on opening day of the TCM Festival, April 21, with a special limited (1,000) bundle which includes an autographed mini-poster signed by the film’s star Jimmy Hunt. The newly restored 4K UHD Blu-ray of Invaders from Mars will be released by Ignite Films worldwide in Fall 2022. Arrow Video will release in the UK.
