Kevin Feige Says Post-Infinity War Will Be “Very Different”

By Creative Media Times

With the arrival of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes conversations about the future of MCU, and from Kevin Feige’s recent interview with Collider, it seems that future may be “very different” from what we might be expecting after Avengers: Infinity War.

“We have an idea [of what the MCU looks like post-Infinity War], and it’s gonna be very, very different,” said Feige. This statement suggest many potential shifts in MCU’s focus. Next year comes the release of Infinity War, the nineteenth film installment, which also marks tenth year since Iron Man started it all. The following year comes its currently untitled sequel. So there is reason to believe a few characters could be retired after that.

But who knows for sure. Its equally possible that the studio will give way to some of the new characters, or even possible reboots. The studio has very busy slate before Infinity War even arrives. This year alone, we will see the release of Galaxy Vol.2, Spiderman: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok, followed by Black Panther on February of next year. All these movies may come into play in shaping the future of MCU.

“We’re not actively discussing anything past untitled Avengers, other than we’ve dated Spider-Man: Homecoming 2—which that would not be the title but that’s what we would call it—because that’s the agreement we made with Sony for the inclusion of Spidey in the Avengers films, and James Gunn doing a third Guardians of the Galaxy at some point. But really the whole focus of Marvel Studios is, counting Guardians 2, the next eight films that are gonna take up all of our time.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.

Update on Joss Whedon’s ‘Batgirl’ and casting the iconic role

By AI Creative Media

We previously reported that Joss Whedon is making a jump from Marvel to DC and is “nearing a deal to write, direct and produce” a Batgirl movie as part of DC’s Extended Universe. During an interview with Variety at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 red carpet premiere yesterday, Whedon said he doesn’t want to cast a movie star as ‘Batgirl’.

“I doubt it will be a name,” Whedon said. “I think this is something where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her. I’m not against movie stars, they’re great, but you need somebody who’s going to be just right. And in situations like this, the name carries a lot of weight so it’s not as critical.”

Batgirl is the alter ego of Barbara Gordon. In the 1960s, she was portrayed by Yvonne Craig in the Batman TV series and then decades later by Alicia Silverstone in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin as a variation of the character, Barbara Wilson, Alfred Pennyworth’s niece. She was also in The Lego Batman Movie as voiced by Rosario Dawson.

‘Captain Marvel’ Finds Its Director

By Creative Media Times

There’s been speculation over who will direct Captain Marvel since Brie Larson, fresh from her Oscar best actress win, was cast last summer at a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Today we finally got an answer: Variety reports that the movie will have not one but two helming the pic: co-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

Before this confirmation, it was clear that Marvel was adamant about hiring a female director, as some of the contenders including Niki Caro, Lorene Scafaria and Lesli Linka Glatter were shortlisted over the past year.

But this isn’t the first time Boden and Fleck were attached to a Marvel project. In 2012, Hollywood Reporter reported that the duo was in the running to direct Guardians of the Galaxy. This job later went to James Gunn. Boden and Fleck were also responsible for Half Nelson (2006), which was career turning point for Ryan Gosling after it earned him his first academy award nomination. All in all, the project seem to be in good hands.

Captain Marvel is one of the most closely watched projects within the studio’s slate, primarily due to the character being the first female MCU superhero to headline her own film. Larson is set to play Carol Danvers, a member of the US Air Force and gained superpowers after a fusion of alien and human genes.

The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.

‘Deadpool 2’ Update: Josh Brolin set to play Cable

By AI Creative Media

Josh Brolin has signed on to play the time-traveling mutant Cable, Hollywood Reporter confirmed Wednesday. Yes, many of us know Brolin is also set to supervillain Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War”, so we might be in for a perplexing situation here.

Indeed, it didn’t take long for many fans to react, including Wade Wilson / Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, who took to twitter to joke about the fresh casting announcement: “The fuck, Fox! You can’t play 2 characters in the same universe!! Josh Brolin was in Sicario and I was in Sabrina The Teenage Witch.

But come on, it’s not like Ryan isn’t guilty of the same for taking multiple Marvel roles. Before Deadpool, he was Hannibal King in “Blade: Trinity”. And of course then there’s a few others such as Michael B. Jordan, who was Human Torch in ‘Fantastic Four’ (2015) and will be the “Black Panther” in 2018, and Chris Evans who played Johnny Storm in the original “Fantastic Four” films before he was Captain America. Of course knowing Reynolds, this is all in jest.

Rumors as to who will play Cable circulated since the character was announced in Deadpool’s post-credit scene; actors including Pierce Brosnan, Nathan Fillion, and Michael Shannon come to mind.

David Leitch is directing Deadpool 2, and is expected to hit theaters in 2018.

Aquaman has another villain: Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus

By AI Creative Media

Production of Aquaman is full speed ahead and raising the bar on villainous lineup. Right now, that list already includes Black Manta and Orn. And they will now be joined by Nereus, as Hollywood Reporter announced will be played by veteran Swedish action icon Dolph Lundgren. For some reason, this tells me that Lundgren’s recent appearance on Arrow was just a warm-up.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that “Lundgren will play King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel, who claims Mera as his own and wants to kill Aquaman.” On Facebook, director James Wan was quick to point out that, “it’s different in my film. But nonetheless, he’ll be an awesome King Nereus, ruler of Xebel.” Whatever the, this raises the stakes yet again for Wan’s already mega-ambitious project.

Lundgren isn’t new to comic book adaptations and superhero films. In 1989, he played the anti-hero Frank Castle in ‘The Punisher’, while before that he portrayed He-Man in the 1987 sci-fi film Masters of the Universe. His role as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV however, remains one of his most iconic roles.

Momoa is playing the title character, while James Wan is sitting in the director’s chair. Willem Dafoe plays Aquaman’s adviser, scientist Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta; and Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father.

Production is supposed to start on May in Australia and is set to be released in December of 2018.
