MTV Documentary Films Sets Release Of “Art & Krimes By Krimes”

MTV Documentary Films Art and Krimes By KrimesMTV Documentary Films has set the release of “Art & Krimes By Krimes”, a documentary featuring visual artists Jesse Krimes, Russell Craig, Jared Owens, Gilberto Rivera.

The film is set for release on theaters starting Friday, September 30 in New York at Quad Cinema, and Los Angeles at Laemmle Monica Film Center.

While locked up for six years in federal prison, artist Jesse Krimes secretly creates monumental works of art—including an astonishing 30-foot mural made with prison bed sheets, hair gel, and newspaper. He smuggles out each panel piece-by-piece with the help of fellow artists, only seeing the mural in totality upon coming home.

As Jesse’s work captures the art world’s attention, he struggles to adjust to life outside, living with the threat that any misstep will trigger a life sentence.

The film is directed by Alysa Nahmias and produced by Alysa Nahmias, Amanda Spain, Benjamin Murray and executive produced by Sheila Nevins.

Michelle Yeoh To Receive SBIFF’s 15th Annual Kirk Douglas Award For Excellence In Film

Michelle YeohThe Santa Barbara International Film Festival is honored to announce global icon Michelle Yeoh will be receiving the 15th annual Kirk Douglas Award For Excellence In Film. This marks the first time since the passing of screen legend Kirk Douglas that the honor will be awarded. The award, which benefits Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s year-round educational programs, will be presented on Friday, December 9 at a Black-Tie dinner at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara.

“A well-deserved honor for the legendary and multi-talented Michelle Yeoh. She has been entertaining and thrilling us in films since the 1980s …… AND she does her own stunts!! Bravo Michelle!” says Michael Douglas.

Michelle Yeoh is an internationally recognized Malaysian-born actress who rose to fame in 1990s Hong Kong action films before going on to shatter convention and star in a myriad of globally acclaimed blockbusters. In March 2022, she starred in Daniels’ mind-bending, critically acclaimed Everything Everywhere All At Once, which has since become A24’s highest grossing film worldwide.

She has appeared in more than 70 features and television series, with her filmography showcasing a collection of iconic roles, including Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 1 & 2, Rob Marshall’s Memoirs of a Geisha, Roger Spottiswoode’s James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, Danny Boyle’s Sunshine, and Jon Chu’s Crazy Rich Asians, the highest-grossing romantic comedy in the U.S. in the past 10 years. ‘The Woman King’ Trailer Released

The film boasts an all-star cast led by Viola Davis and John Boyega and is based on an incredible true story.

Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the historical epic is inspired by the true events that happened in The Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries.

“The Woman King” is the remarkable story of the all-female unit of warriors, Agojie, who protected the ancient African Kingdom of Dahomey (presnt-day Benin) for centuries in the 1800s.

Gina Prince-Bythewood also wrote the script, along with Dana Stevens. The film also stars Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim and Hero Fiennes Tiffin.

“The Woman King” is set for theatrical release on September 16, 2022 bypass Sony Pictures Releasing.

Amazon Studios Acquires Rights To Charles Soule & Ryan Brown’s Comic Book Series “Eight Billion Genies” After A Heated Auction

EIGHT BILLION GENIESLast week, Hollywood Reporter announced that Amazon Studios has acquired the development rights to Charles Soule and Ryan Browne’s bestselling comic book series, Eight Billion Genies, after a heated auction.

The first project coming out of the deal is a feature film, which will be executive produced by Soule and Browne and serve as the cornerstone in a cross-media Universe of storytelling.

Charles Soule and Ryan Browne are represented by Angela Cheng Caplan of Cheng Caplan Company and Eric Feig of Feig Law.

Lady Gaga In Talks To Join Todd Phillips’ Joker Sequel

The sequel to 2019’s Joker, Joker: Folie à Deux will reportedly be a musical which will likely star the original film’s lead Joaquin Phoenix, and Lady Gaga is set to join him, according to THR.

Per story, Gaga would play DC’s Harley Quinn but a different incarnation than that played by Margot Robbie’s version from current DC Universe. And it will also be a musical.

Phillips and Gaga have worked together before in 2018’s A Star is Born, which starred Gaga along with Bradley Cooper, and which Philips served as a producer.

The original 2019 blockbuster was a huge hit for Phillips. That film grossed $1 billion at the boxoffice worldwide, received 12 nominations at the Oscars, one of which won by Phoenix for playing the iconic lead anti-hero.

More recently, Harley Quinn has been played by Margot Robbie three times, in 2016’s “Suicide Squad,” 2020’s “Birds of Prey” and 2021’s “The Suicide Squad.

There’s something in the air as stars and fans turn out at the crowded premiere of B.J. Novak’s feature directorial debut “Vengeance”. “The Office” alum also wrote the darkly comedic thriller.

In attendance were cast Issa Rae, Ashton Kutcher, Boyd Holbrook, J. Smith-Cameron, Dove Cameron and mega-producer Jason Blum.

The film follows a journalist and podcaster who travels from New York City to Texas to investigate the death of a woman whom he hooked up with.

The 2022 Tribeca Festival continues through Sunday, June 19, 2022.
