St. Mercy: Godland Leaps Into A New Era Of Obsession – The Gods Of The Golden Age Of Hollywood

Top Cow Productions, Inc. is set to partner with EP1T0ME Studios, Inc. once again for the forthcoming St. Mercy: Godland, to be published by Image Comics. In this new, four-issue installment of the hit action/adventure comic book series—by writer John Zuur Platten (Jurassic World: Evolution, Wanted: Weapons of Fate) and artist Atilio Rojo (Cyber Force, A.R.C.) with lettering by Troy Peteri—Mercy will be catapulted from the dangers of the Incan Empire and the American West into the ruthless, golden era of 1930s Hollywood.

“No matter where Mercy goes or what era she’s in, she can’t escape her curse,” said Platten. “In Godland, while the setting shifts from the Wild West to what was then called Hollywoodland, Mercy’s unwanted duty remains the same—protect the Incan gold, death be damned.”

Rojo added: “Mercy is relentless; we cannot wait for readers to reunite with her, to see our version of 1930s Hollywood, to meet the new cast from that era, and to experience the wild action scenes.”

“Mercy’s journey feels unique and unexpected,” said Lee Thomas, Creative Director at EP1T0ME. “[It] reminds us of the eclectic journeys of Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark or Quantum Leap’s Sam Beckett.”

Official Trailer for Horror Thriller “Abigail” Released

“Abigail” stars Melissa Barrera (Scream franchise, In the Heights), Dan Stevens (Gaslit, Legion), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Freaky), William Catlett (Black Lightning, True Story), Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Angus Cloud (Euphoria, North Hollywood) as the kidnappers and Alisha Weir (Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, Darklands) as Abigail.

In the film, after a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.

“Abigail” is from Radio Silence—the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett behind the terrifying modern horror hits Ready or Not, 2022’s Scream and last year’s Scream VI—comes a brash, blood-thirsty new vision of the vampire flick, written by Stephen Shields (The Hole in the Ground, Zombie Bashers) and Guy Busick (Scream franchise, Ready or Not).

Lionsgate’s Upcoming Romance “FLOAT” Sets Release Date

Based on the novel by Kate Marchant, “Float” stars Andrea Bang and Robbie Amell.

The film follows a young woman, after she nearly drowns, unexpectedly falls for the small-town lifeguard who rescued her. Also in the film are Michelle Krusiec, and Andrew Bachelor.

Directed by Sherren Lee and from writers Sherren Lee & Jesse Lavercombe, the film is dropping in theaters and digital on demand on February 9th, 2024

Cinema Tropical Awards: Argentina’s TRENQUE LAUQUEN Named Best Latin American Film of the Year

The Argentine feature Trenque Lauquen by Laura Citarella was announced as the winner of the top award for Best Latin American Film of the Year at the 14th Annual Cinema Tropical Awards, which were announced this evening in a special event at Film at Lincoln Center in New York City.

The Chilean filmmaker Manuela Martelli was the winner of the Cinema Tropical Award for Best Director for her debut feature Chile ‘76, while the Costa Rican feature, I Have Electric Dreams (Tengo sueños eléctricos) by Valentina Maurel was announced winner of the award for Best First Film. The jury gave the award for Best Documentary to The Trial (El juicio) by Ulises de la Órden.

In the U.S. Latinx Cinema competition, the winner of the award for Best Film was the fiction film Story Ave, the debut feature by Aristotle Torres.

The Latin American winners of this year’s Cinema Tropical Awards were selected by a jury panel composed of Mónica Castillo, Senior Film Programer Curator at the Jacob Burns Film Center; Mara Fortes, Senior Curator at the Telluride Film Festival; María Paula Lorgia, Artistic Director of the San Diego Latino Film Festival; Marian Luntz, Film Curator at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and Manuel Santini, Senior Manager, Programming at Film at Lincoln Center.

Produced by Live Nation, the 26-city tour kicks off on June 1st at Observatory OC in Santa Ana, CA, making stops in Salt Lake City, Chicago, New York, Toronto, and more, before concluding in Los Angeles, CA at The Wiltern on July 12th.

“Oppenheimer”, “Succession” Win Big At The 2024 Golden Globes

The winners for the 2024 Golden Globes were handed out on Sunday night. Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things and Anatomy of a Fall were some of the big winners on the film categories, while the final season of HBO’s Succession won multiple awards on the TV categories.

Boxoffice hit “Oppenheimer,” which came into the night with eight nominations, won best drama motion picture, Christopher Nolan for best director, Cillian Murphy for best actor in a drama, Robert Downey Jr. for best supporting actor, and Ludwig Göransson as the film’s composer.

Comedian Jo Koy hosted the event, which took place at The Beverly Hilton in California.

2024 Sundance Film Festival Adds The Greatest Night in Pop to the Feature Film Program and Reveals Beyond Film Lineup

Today the nonprofit Sundance Institute announced the addition of the documentary The Greatest Night in Pop to the 2024 Sundance Film Festival film program and the lineup for the Festival’s Beyond Film programming. In addition to the three annual series — Power of Story, Cinema Café presented by Audible, and The Big Conversation — this year’s lineup also includes a New Frontier conversation about artificial intelligence and special 40th Edition Celebration events. With the exception of Power of Story, the sole ticketed event, all Beyond Film events are free and open to the public. Supplementing the Festival experience, Beyond Film provides a community hub for Festivalgoers through artist conversations, talks with filmmakers and experts across the fields of art and science, and audience discourse. The events will take place in person from January 19–26, 2024, with select Beyond Film offerings available beginning January 25, 2024, to audiences across the country on the online Festival Platform. Other in-person and online events announced today include talks hosted by Festival partners and Sundance Collab, the digital arm of Sundance Institute that provides an online learning platform and community space for creators.

The Festival will take place January 18–28, 2024, in person in Park City and Salt Lake City, with a selection of titles available online nationwide from January 25–28, 2024. This year marks the 40th edition of the Festival, bringing together audiences in Utah and beyond to celebrate Sundance’s rich history of supporting engaging new stories and groundbreaking independent artists. Single film tickets go on sale January 11 at 10 a.m. MT.
