Sundance Institute Announces 2024 Momentum Fellows

Sundance-Institute-2024-Momentum-FellowsToday the nonprofit Sundance Institute announced eight storytellers selected for the 2024 Momentum Fellowship. Now in its sixth year, Momentum continues its mission of fostering professional growth for mid-career artists, emphasizing professional development opportunities during a critical juncture in their creative journey.

The fellowship specifically targets mid-career artists hailing from historically marginalized backgrounds, offering them tailored support and resources. It is led by the Institute’s Women at Sundance and Artist Accelerator programs.

The fellowship supports creators working in fiction or nonfiction who have recently achieved a noteworthy accomplishment, such as a highly regarded feature film or series.

Momentum provides participants with a full-year program of customized support around current goals they identify for themselves to level up in their craft and career, including an unrestricted artist grant; professional coaching offered by Renee Freedman & Company, supported by The Harnisch Foundation; and connection to the Sundance Institute’s ELEVATE professional development track with exclusive workshops and sessions.

Kings Of Leon Announce New Album and 2024 World Tour

Alongside news of a new label partnership with Capitol Records, the band has announced their upcoming 9th full-length studio album, Can We Please Have Fun, out on May 10. The hard-charging lead single, “Mustang” is available now, accompanied by a high-flying music video that sets the pace for the album. Kings of Leon also announce a 2024 World Tour.

Can We Please Have Fun, as its title suggests, is a document of one of this era’s great rock & roll bands cutting loose, trying new things, and, yes, having some fun. Recorded at Dark Horse studio in Nashville and produced with new collaborator Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Florence + the Machine) the album sees a new side of Kings of Leon. On the new album, the band harkens back to their gritty origins while simultaneously finding new gears. It’s the sound of a band unified in vision and purpose, freed from any expectations, and the album the band says they’ve always wanted to make.

It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” Caleb says. “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable,” Nathan adds. “I love it when a rock band is not embarrassed to admit that every song doesn’t have to be on 11.”

Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Hart In New “Borderlands” Trailer

borderlands-movieThe first trailer for Borderlands has been released, which gives us a glimpse of the characters in this adaptation of the best-selling Gearbox Software video game series.

The science fiction action comedy film is directed by Eli Roth (Thanksgiving).

Here, Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. Her mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Ramírez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. Lilith forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland (Hart), a seasoned mercenary on a mission; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound protector; Tannis (Curtis), the oddball scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Black), a wiseass robot.

“These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power,” says the film’s an official synopsis. “The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.”

Dan + Shay Extend ‘The Heartbreak On The Map Tour’ Into Summer 2024

dan-and-shayThe 3x GRAMMY Award-winning duo, Dan + Shay, has just announced the extension of their highly anticipated 2024 The Heartbreak On The Map Tour. Produced by Live Nation, this tour is set to expand with 30 new dates that will feature support from Jake Owen and Dylan Marlowe.

The tour aptly receives its title from “Heartbreak On The Map,” the third song, and early fan-favorite on the duo’s fifth studio album, Bigger Houses.

The first leg of the tour is set to kick off on February 29, 2024, in Greenville, SC with support from acclaimed singer-songwriters Ben Rector and Hailey Whitters.

Tickets to the newly announced stops will be available starting with presales beginning today at 11am local time and a Dan + Shay presale at 12pm local time. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning February 23 at 10 AM local time.

New White Trees Adventure Begins In Zdarsky And Anka’s Upcoming “The Whisper Queen” In May

Zdarsky-And-Anka-The-Whisper-QueenBestselling writer Chip Zdarsky (Newburn, Batman) and fan-favorite artist Kris Anka (Across the Spider-Verse)—the all-star team behind The White Trees—return to the fantastical land of Blacksand with an all-new chapter in The Whisper Queen. This three issue miniseries is set to launch in May from Image Comics.

The series also boasts alternate covers by industry titan Fiona Staples (Saga) and Rosemary Valero-O’Connell (Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me).

“The White Trees is the best project I’ve ever been involved in, thanks to the gorgeous work by Kris and Matt,” said Zdarsky. “We always knew there were more stories to tell in the world of Blacksand, so getting the gang back together for another wild, action-filled adventure was a no-brainer. The White Trees was first introduced by Zdarsky and Anka to readers as a two issue miniseries and launched in 2019 to critical acclaim. Readers who pick up The Whisper Queen, and hope to discover the magic of The White Trees, will be able to snag The White Trees reprint hitting shelves the following week. It will collect both issues of that initial story together.

Larry Fessenden’s “Blackout” From Dark Sky Films Sets Release On Theaters + Digital Platforms

“Blackout” is set to open for a one week exclusive NYC theatrical engagement at IFC Center on March 13th, which will feature special cast appearances and a Q&A. The film will be released nationwide on digital platforms and VOD on April 12th.

It marks the long-awaited reunion of Dark Sky Films and Larry Fessenden’s Glass Eye Pix, two iconic horror companies responsible for Ti West’s The House of The Devil and The Innkeepers, Jim Mickle’s Stake Land and Adrian Garcia Bogliano’s Late Phases.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Painter Charley (Alex Hurt, Minyan, TV’s New Amsterdam) wakes up in an upstate motel where he appears to have been living for some time. After he packs and leaves he encounters various people in the small town where everybody knows your name. Charley is saying goodbye to the estranged love of his life, Sharon (Addison Timlin, Submission, TV’s American Horror Stories), and settling his affairs with a manic urgency that culminates with a call to a friend, Earl (Motell Gyn Foster, Marriage Story, A Dog’s Way Home), saying: “You better be ready, I’m coming.”

But Charley never makes it to his friend’s house: When the sun goes down he has convulsions while driving his car, goes off the road and ends up in a ditch. Charley, it seems, is a werewolf. He attacks his rescuers and moves through the outskirts of town at night wreaking havoc. But the next day he can’t remember the things he’s done. Now the tight-knit town must rally to find out what is tearing it apart: mistrust, fear, or a vicious monster.

Gravitas Ventures Acquires Drama/Thriller “Break” for Worldwide Rights and Distribution

The film follows Eli (early 20s), played by Darren Weiss, as he juggles two jobs, tries to juggle taking care of his sister and mother, and relationship. A series of unexpected events Introduces him to the world of Detroit Pool where he learns his absent father was once a Detroit pool hall legend. Eli journeys into the scene, and confronts the realities and danger of the game and himself.

The collaboration marks a significant partnership between Gold Valley Films and Viva Kids, leveraging the success of their past collaboration on “The Amazing Maurice,” where Robert Chandler served as the producer and writer. Robert, now stepping into the role of creative producer for “Emma’s Big Adventure”.

Filmmaker Phil Allocco is a feature film and commercial writer/director. His work has garnered over 60 awards and nominations. He was one of the short-listed directors picked by Steven Spielberg from a world-wide search of over 12,000 directors for his US TV series ‘On the Lot’ for FOX TV. His feature film ‘The Truth About Lies,’ was released theatrically in 2017 and won 14 awards at festivals including “The Best Of Fest” at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
