Writer and director David Robert Mitchell had a breakthrough in 2014 with the supernatural horror film “It Follows.” Now he is back helming Andrew Garfield in a modern noir comedy-drama film “Under the Silver Lake” set in Los Angeles.

Andrew Garfield, who earned a nomination for an Academy Award Best Actor for his portrayal of Desmond T. Doss in “Hacksaw Ridge” (2016) stars in the neo-noir story of Sam who is searching for the truth behind the disappearance of an attractive, mysterious girl he met, which unravels into a deeper, more sinister conspiracy than he ever imagined.

“Under the Silver Lake” co-stars Topher Grace, Jimmi Simpson, Callie Hernandez, Riki Lindhome, Summer Bishil, Zosia Mamet, Luke Baines, and Patrick Fischler. Composer Disasterpeace, who worked with Mitchell on “It Follows” is also doing the score for ‘Silver Lake’. The film is set to premiere this summer on June 22.

Here’s the film’s synopsis courtesy of A24 Films:

Sam (Andrew Garfield) is a disenchanted 33-year-old who discovers a mysterious woman, Sarah (Riley Keough), frolicking in his apartment’s swimming pool. When she vanishes, Sam embarks on a surreal quest across Los Angeles to decode the secret behind her disappearance, leading him into the murkiest depths of mystery, scandal, and conspiracy in the City of Angels.

From writer-director David Robert Mitchell comes a sprawling, playful and unexpected mystery-comedy detective thriller about the Dream Factory and its denizens—dog killers, aspiring actors, glitter-pop groups, nightlife personalities, It girls, memorabilia hoarders, masked seductresses, homeless gurus, reclusive songwriters, sex workers, wealthy socialites, topless neighbors, and the shadowy billionaires floating above (and underneath) it all. Mining a noir tradition extending from Kiss Me Deadly and The Long Goodbye to Chinatown and Mulholland Drive, Mitchell uses the topography of Los Angeles as a backdrop for a deeper exploration into the hidden meaning and secret codes buried within the things we love.

First Trailer For “Fantastic Beasts 2” Unveiled

By Creative Media Times

Warner Bros. Pictures

The second installment in the Fantastic Beasts film series, “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” arrives later this year. Today, fans get to catch a glimpse of what’s in store for them as Warner Bros. releases its first trailer.

Also released today is the poster for the highly anticipate film, showcasing its leads Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and new addition to the series Jude Law as young Albus Dumbledore.

The action filled trailer reveals that Dumbledore is certainly a major player in the film, which looks to broaden the story line of the original Beasts film as well as an overall darker tone. The story supposedly takes place in UK and Paris, a departure from the original’s 1920s American setting.

Gillert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) also appears briefly in the trailer. There’s not a lot of details about Grindelwald here, but we all remember that the powerful dark wizard was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) at the end of first film, and there is no question he is making good on his evil threats.

David Yates is back for directing duties, with a screenplay by J.K. Rowling. The film is produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. James Newton Howard is also returning to compose the film’s music.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is set to be released Nov. 16, 2018.

Here is part of the film’s premise:

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

By Creative Media Times

Universal Pictures

The grouchy creature wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and is ready to ruin everyone’s Christmas in Illumination Entertainment’s latest animated film “The Grinch.” The studio released the film’s first trailer Thursday.

Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing the green furry Grinch, who is hatching a sinister scheme in Whoville as residents plan their annual holiday celebration.

In the trailer we see the Grinch (Cumberbatch) bothered by his alarm clock incessantly playing the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, because well, its from Illumination’s own blockbuster hit “Despicable Me 2” and it works perfectly here.

“Today we will do mean things and we will do them in style,” the misanthrope tells his unloved but loyal companion dog, Max. And from there he was up to no good, breaking stuff and vomiting on a pickle jar in a grocery store among others.

Directed by Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets) and Scott Mosier and written by Michael LeSieur, the film is an animated revival based on the 1957 classic children’s story by Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”.

The story was previously adapted twice, on an animated TV film in 1966 with Boris Karloff voicing the Grinch, and again in a full-length feature hit film in 2000 by Ron Howard starring Jim Carrey.

“The Grinch” is set to open on Nov. 9, 2018.
