Official Trailer: “Madame Web” Gives First Glimpse at Spider-Man Spinoff

Sony Pictures has just released the official trailer for the upcoming film “Madame Web”, the Spider-Man spinoff which stars Dakota Johnson as the title character, along with Sydney Sweeney playing Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman.

Although it is described as a standalone origin film, it is connected to the Spider-Man cinematic universe. Here, Johnson plays Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan and clairvoyant with psychic abilities that let her tap into the spider world.

S. J. Clarkson helms “Madame Web”, which is Sony’s first female-led Marvel movie. Also in the film are Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
“Meanwhile, in another universe…” In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures…if they can all survive a deadly present.

“Madame Web” is set for release on February 14, 2024.

Top London Creators Ram V and Dan Watters Launch Two New Series

First teased at New York Comic Con earlier this month, two new series from White Noise Studio members Ram V (The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, Swamp Thing) and Dan Watters (Home Sick Pilots, Loki) will each launch new five-issue Crime drama miniseries in February 2024 from Image Comics.

First, The One Hand teams Ram V with artist Laurence Campbell (Old Haunts, BPRD: Hell on Earth) and colorist Lee Loughridge (Deadly Class) in an unrelenting procedural that will have readers guessing until the very end.

Neo Novena detective, Ari Nasser is about to retire with an enviable record, until a brutal murder occurs, bearing all the hallmarks of the “One Hand Killer” …which should be impossible since Ari already put him away not once but twice in the years before.

What follows is a deadly cat-and-mouse game as Ari pursues his quarry down the rain-soaked streets of Neo Novena. Ari will stop at nothing to unravel the secrets and ciphers of this case, but each revelation only leads further into the dark heart of his future-metropolis and Ari’s own beleaguered soul.

“The One Hand stems from one of those 3 a.m.-frantically-looking-for-a-notebook-to-make-notes kind of ideas,” said Ram V. “It took hold of my imagination a couple of years ago and would not let go until the story was made. It is ambitious, seeking to do new things in the medium and unlike anything I’ve made before. I cannot wait for people to experience it.”

Kid Cudi Teams With Higgins, Locati For Upcoming Comic Book Series Moon Man

Grammy Award winning musician Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi will make his comics debut alongside Eisner Award-nominated co-writer and Massive-Verse architect Kyle Higgins (Radiant Black, NO/ONE), breakout artists Marco Locati and Igor Monti (Inferno Girl Red, Deep Cuts), Eisner Award-winning letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (Midlife) and editor Michael Busuttil in the forthcoming Moon Man. This all-new, ongoing series will launch in January 2024 from Image Comics, Black Market Narrative and Mad Solar, kicking off the new year with an extra-length first issue and an accompanying mixtape from the Grammy Award-winning recording artist.

Moon Man follows Ramon Townsend, a man ready for a quiet life after gaining unexpected celebrity status for steering his ship and crew safely home from a near-disastrous moon mission. Whatever went wrong on that failed moon mission, whatever happened in the missing minutes the cameras didn’t capture, all Ramon really wants is to settle down back home in Cleveland. But those missing minutes hold an Earth-shattering secret—and, with all eyes turned to him, Ramon will soon find himself becoming something the world has never seen before.

“This might be one of the top three coolest things I’ve ever been a part of. This story is something that took a lot of love from everyone involved, and I’m so excited for the world to finally experience Moon Man,” said Mescudi. “I promise you this comic will be unlike anything you’ve read before. To each and every person that picks up a copy and shows support in January—I love you more than you can imagine. Thank you!”

Radiant Black Story Arc Splits In Two Next Month In Catalyst War Shake Up

Known for pushing the envelope with unique twists, easter eggs, and multimedia tie-ins, the Massive-Verse’s Radiant Black, by Kyle Higgins, Marcelo Costa, Eduardo Ferigato, and Joe Clark, will have fans doing a double-take next month yet again—literally—with the release of two issues: Radiant Black #26 and the Radiant Black #26.5.

One storyline follows Marshall, one storyline puts the spotlight on Nathan, but both issues are a must-buy for readers to get the full experience. There are, after all, two sides to every story.

“The Catalyst War is the most ambitious story that I have ever been a part of,” said Higgins. “This is a story that we’ve been building up to for over two years, an event told across timelines featuring two different art teams telling two different stories each month. Both timelines are integral to the event—the different choices that Marshall and Nathan make and how they impact their respective worlds is at the center of what The Catalyst War is about. And by the end of issue 30.5, you will learn who won the vote and who will be Radiant Black going forward. That is, if either of them survives…”

The “.5” storyline will run through Radiant Black #30 and Radiant Black #30.5 before hitting fans with another jaw-dropping plot twist.

The Iron Giant Meets Mad Max: Fury Road In Upcoming Sci-Fi Series “Patrol Head” This November

Bestselling writer Rob Williams (Suicide Squad) and superstar artist Pye Parr (2000 AD) team up for a pedal-to-the-metal, action-packed sci-fi series in the upcoming Petrol Head. First announced exclusively at ComicBook.com, this all-new ongoing series is set to hit the pavement this November from Image Comics.

In a climate crisis-ravaged future metropolis, an old, grumpy, obsolete, smoke-belching, cigar-chomping, hotrod-racing robot is one 12-year-old girl’s only hope. Together, can they outrace the chasing Robo-Cops with an invention that might just save humanity? Readers will jump straight into the non-human race with this robo-gorgeous launch issue featuring 42 story pages.

“Petrol Head is that rare thing in comics—art that feels like it’s actually moving on the page,” said Williams. “Pye’s racing sequences have this kinetic, Akira-like energy and he draws the best robots, and cars, and robots driving cars. We both come from a 2000AD background and we wanted to bring that same punky, funny edge to what is basically a heartfelt story about one smart little girl who may just be able to save the whole human race from a climate emergency, but she has to team up with a grumpy, obsolete hotrod-racing robot to do it.”

D.G. Chichester Puts Matt Murdock Back In Black In Daredevil: Black Armor

Announced last month at San Diego Comic-Con, fans will get a chance to return to Matt Murdock’s armored up ‘90s days in Daredevil: Black Armor. Written by D.G. Chichester and drawn by rising star artist Netho Diaz and JP Mayer, the four-issue limited series will take place during Chichester’s beloved run on the title. Remembered for epic storylines like “Last Rites” and “Fall From Grace,” Chichester’s run reintroduced Elektra to the Marvel Universe and suited up Matt Murdock in a sleek new armored costume. Now, witness a never-before-seen chapter of Daredevil that adds new depth and mystery to this fan-favorite era.

When civilians, heroes, and villains alike are disappearing into the dark depths of Hell’s Kitchen underground, Matt Murdock will need to push his extraordinary senses and his armored suit beyond their limits to find out who’s responsible. Throughout the saga, Daredevil will be pitted against a who’s who of Marvel’s deadliest villains including Hobgoblin, Sabretooth and more—all building towards an explosive confrontation with the mysterious evil that’s pulling all the strings! Matt’s armor will have to work overtime as the series delivers nonstop intense action and brutal fighting in extreme 90s’ fashion!

“If someone told me earlier that I’d have another chance to put on Daredevil’s horns (let alone horns attached to a suit of black armor) I’d have thought they’d taken one too many whacks to the head with a billy club. But apparently my passport to Hell’s Kitchen still works just fine!” Chichester said. “It’s an unexpected (but welcome!) thrill to visit Matt Murdock’s neighborhood again, and to work with Marvel on going back in time to discover a new adventure for the man without fear.

“The Daredevil office has been incredibly encouraging in taking some wild swings with this series,” Chichester continued. “Returning to Matt and Daredevil and that costume where I left them — as the writer I am now — has been an amazing experience. It’s knowing how to jump off a rooftop — but accepting the challenge that you don’t always know where you’re going to land. I hope fans of my Fall From Grace and Fall of the Kingpin stories find more to enjoy in my take on hyper senses and heightened action — especially seen in an entirely new way thanks to the dynamite art and visual storytelling of Netho Diaz and JP Mayer.”

Roddenberry Entertainment and Den of Geek To Launch New Sci-Fi Podcast

By Armando

Roddenberry Entertainment, the iconic company behind the Star Trek universe, has announced its partnership with Den of Geek on Does It Fly, an original video podcast that puts science fiction to the test to prove whether or not movie magic could possibly function in the real world. The announcement follows last week’s panel at San Diego Comic Con, during which audience members were treated to a live sampling ahead of the podcast’s official debut this Fall.

Hosted by scientist Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi and pop-culture aficionado Tamara Krinsky, each week’s episode will dissect a favorite entertainment conceit, examining it from all angles to see what makes it tick: whether it’s socially valuable, how it’s scientifically intriguing, if it’s even possible, and whether it’s just plain cool. By the end of the episode, science and fiction will have collided in the service of a single question, “Does it fly?”

In the beginning stages of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry approached a production designer by the name of Matt Jefferies and tasked him with a job of creating a starship for his crew. There was one big stipulation however: it couldn’t just look like a spaceship, it had to follow “aircraft logic.” The Starship Enterprise couldn’t simply be cool Sci-Fi, it had to be a true SCIENCE fiction vehicle, designed with an eye towards physics, engineering and believability. Above all, Roddenberry told Matt Jefferies, “I want it to fly.”
