“Avengers: Endgame” Broke Box-office Records

By Creative Media Times

Marvel Studios

As many expected, Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” broke plenty of box-office records this weekend, almost every box-office record there is in fact.

The superhero ensemble, which began its international release on Wednesday, brought in $350 in North America which brings its global total to $1.2 billion total after only five days in release. That makes it the fastest film to break the $1 billion milestone.

Endgame’s domestic weekend opening handily beats previous record holder “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which opened to nearly $250 million back in 2015.

In just a single weekend, the film instantly shot into the top 20 highest grossing films of all time, coming in at number 18th. These boxoffice figures also exceeded pre-release domestic boxoffice expectations, which ranged from $250 million to $300 million.

This also means Marvel now owns the two top global releases in history, following last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, also directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.

The officially kicks-off summer blockbuster season, which will see the releases of high-profile films such as “Detective Pikachu”, “Toy Story 4,” “Men in Black International”, and “The Lion King”.

Legendary Comics Announces New Graphic Novel Championess

Championess that Delves into the Ferocious 18th Century Craze of Bare-Knuckle Boxing, Set for Release in Fall 2020

Legendary Comics enters the ring with creators Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas to bring readers Championess, a new graphic novel set for release in Fall 2020. Drawing inspiration from the real-life enigmatic boxer Elizabeth Wilkinson who challenged opponents by posting adverts in London newspapers in the early 1700s, this fictitious story follows ‘the Championess of Europe’ as she fights to gain notoriety in the male-dominated sport of bare-knuckle boxing, as well as struggles with her own racial identity. Follow Facebook.com/LegendaryComics for the latest news and updates.

“When Tarun and Kelly first pitched me Championess, I loved that it was based on a true story and explored the life of a female bare-knuckle boxer in the 18th Century,” said Nikita Kannekanti, Editor of Legendary Comics. “It’s such a unique premise, and I had no idea women boxing was a thing back then! I have wanted to bring an incredibly strong, passionate female character to life in an original graphic novel, and the story Tarun and Kelly have created based on Elizabeth Wilkinson is the perfect opportunity.”

“There isn’t much known about Elizabeth Wilkinson, but when we first heard her story, our imaginations went wild as we hung on every detail, from her larger-than-life personality to the way she helped popularize the sport of boxing in its earliest, most brutal days,” said Shanker and Zekas. “We’re so excited to be working with Legendary to tell her remarkable story and explore this fascinating corner of history.”

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” Teaser Trailer Released

By Creative Media Times

Lucasfilm Ltd.

Director J.J. Abrams has released the very first trailer “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” during Star Wars Celebration in event in Chicago on Friday, April 12, giving fans the first look of the highly anticipated final entry in the epic saga.

Abrams, who also directed the first installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy The Force Awakens (2015) were in attendance for the announcement, along with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and some of the film’s cast Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, and Naomi Ackie.

The trailer shows Daisy Ridley’s character Rey, standing alone in an unknown desert planet, wielding her light saber at an incoming starcraft.

“We’ve passed on all we know,” Luke Skywalker says in the background. “A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight.”

We then see shots of characters new and old including Finn, Poe, Lando Calrissian, C-3PO, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, and of Princess Leia, played by the late Carrie Fisher. We also see a poignant shot of what looks like the Medal of Bravery which Leia gave to Luke and Han Solo at the end of “Star Wars: A New Hope.”

Towards the end of the trailer, we see Rey and company, then we hear Luke once again. “We’ll always be with you. No one’s ever really gone,” Luke said. Then, the big surprise at the end, we hear a familiar creepy laugh of Ian McDiarmid’s Emperor Palpatine while the title appears.

In many ways, the trailer is perfect. It offers enough nostalgia, with minimal details but enough glimpses of the characters to whet our appetite until the next trailer arrives.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.

Today, April 10, 2019, is a special date for Blade Runner fans — it’s the exact date of rogue Replicant Leon “Let Me Tell You About My Mother” Kowalski’s inception.
