Launching on January 15, MGM+ Expands Premium Lineup and Unveils Development Slate

Today, at the Television Critics Association’s 2023 Winter Press Tour, Michael Wright, head of MGM+ (formerly EPIX), unveiled a programming lineup and development slate that delivers premium cinematic television and a curated theatrical library, from one of the world’s most enduring entertainment brands.

The newly rebranded premium linear channel and streaming service will launch on January 15 in conjunction with the Season Three premiere of the critically acclaimed drama series Godfather of Harlem, starring and executive produced by Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker and created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein (Narcos).

“It’s a new beginning for our service, as we introduce MGM+ and its distinctive brand promise to viewers on January 15. MGM+ will deliver on its iconic and beloved studio legacy, with cinematic, sophisticated, and transportive storytelling that audiences love,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “We are growing our rich library of content, comprised of original television series and blockbuster films that celebrate the MGM brand.”

BAFTA Film Awards Announce Longlists with “All Quiet on the Western Front”, “Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere” Leading

BAFTA Film Awards has released its first round of voting across all 24 categories, with “All Quiet on the Western Front”, “Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere” emerging as frontrunners.

“All Quiet on the Western Front” got the most showing, including Film Not In The English Language, Best Film, and Adapted Screenplay. Meanwhile, Martin McDonagh’s “Banshees of Inisherin” was on Best Film, Best Director, and Screenplay, and Colin Farrell for Leading Actor, and Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, and Kerry Condon for Best Supporting Actor and Actress longlists.

BAFTA Film Committee Chair, Anna Higgs, said: “The publication of the EE BAFTA Film Awards Longlist is a very special moment to recognise the wide range of exceptional crafts, performances and productions that make the magic of films a reality. To be Longlisted is a fantastic achievement amidst the phenomenal films released in the last year. Sharing the list ahead of the Nominations will hopefully inspire the public to watch as many films as possible and join in the conversation as excitement builds for the Awards.”

The nominations for the EE BAFTA Film Awards will be announced on Thursday 19 January at 12 midday (GMT).

10 films will advance in the Best Film category. 214 eligible films were submitted for consideration. All film voting members of BAFTA vote to determine the longlist, nominations and overall winner.

Indigo Girls is set to perform perform at Sundance opening night celebration Opening Night: A Taste of Sundance presented by IMDbPro on January 19 in Park City.

The folk rock duo is also set premiere their new documentary at the festival, with the “It’s Only Life After All” doc.

Opening Night: A Taste of Sundance presented by IMDbPro will honor inspiring new storytellers whose journeys have been connected to Sundance throughout the years while raising funds and awareness for the Institute. Proceeds raised will be used to support the Institute’s year-round work uplifting global independent voices, both new and established, through artist programs, granting, and other initiatives.

Released in 1989, Indigo Girls’ eponymous major label debut sold over two million copies under the power of singles “Closer to Fine” and “Kid Fears” and turned Indigo Girls into one of the most successful folk duos in history.

“We are excited to have the Indigo Girls perform at our opening night celebration and help kick off the Festival as we honor inspiring storytellers. Emily Saliers and Amy Ray are bold independent artists who have spent their careers using their art to make an impact, like so many of the artists supported throughout the Institute’s history. We are honored that they will be part of this special evening, joining us after Alexandria Bombach’s documentary reflecting on their influential lives, It’s Only Life After All, premieres earlier in the evening,” said Joana Vicente, Sundance Institute CEO.

Creepy New Thriller “Disquiet”: New Trailer with Jonathan Rhys Meyers

After a near-fatal car accident, Sam (Meyers) wakes to discover he is trapped in an abandoned hospital by mysterious and sinister forces that have no intention of letting him leave.

That is the premise for the upcoming horror thriller “Disquiet” and Paramount has just released the creepy and disturbing new trailer for the film.

“Disquiet” is written and directed by Michael Winnick, and stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers ( (Vikings, The Tudors) with co-stars Rachelle Goulding, Elyse Levesque, Lochlyn Munro, Garry Chalk, Trezzo Mahoro, Anita Brown, and Bradley Stryker.

“Disquiet” is set for released in digital, on demand, and in select theaters on February 10, 2023.

Tár received the best picture award from the National Society of Film Critics in its 57th annual awards, which voted on Saaturday, January 7. The film also took the most awards in total with 3. Cate Blanchett was awarded best actress for her titular role; Todd Field won for best screenplay.

Colin Farrell winning best actor for his performances in The Banshees of Inisherin and After Yang, while his Banshees’ co-star Kerry Condon was named best supporting actress. Ke Huy Quan received best supporting actor for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Charlotte Wells landed the best director prize for Aftersun.

New Trailer for “You People” with Jonah Hill, Lauren London, Eddie Murphy and More

Netflix has premiered the full trailer for the Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy-led comedy “You People”.

Kenya Barris’ feature film directorial debut is a modern love story set amidst clashing cultures and interfaith relationships.

Co-written by Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill and produced by the two alongside Kevin Misher, the comedy features an all-star ensemble cast including Sam Jay, Elliott Gould, Travis Bennett, Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage and Mike Epps.

“You People” is set for release on January 27, 2023 by Netflix.

2023 Sundance Film Festival To Go “Beyond Film”, Lineup of Conversations Announced

Today the nonprofit Sundance Institute announced the lineup for the 2023 Sundance Film Festival Beyond Film conversations, all of which are open to the public. Made up of three series called Power of Story, Cinema Café, and The Big Conversation,

Beyond Film rounds out the Festival experience, providing a place for the community to engage through artist conversations, filmmaker panels, and audience discourse.

Beyond Film will take place in-person from January 19–23, 2023, with the Beyond Film offerings becoming available to audiences across the country on the online Festival Platform starting January 24, 2023. The Festival also shared details about additional free conversations and events from Sundance Collab and our Festival partners available in person and online.

Multi-Platinum Rock band DAUGHTRY will release a new cover song SEPARATE WAYS (WORLDS APART), a tribute to legendary rock band JOURNEY featuring vocals from Lzzy Hale, Lead singer of HALESTORM on Thursday Jan 5th 2023.

The cover releases exactly 40 years to the day that the original song was released on January 5th, 1983.

“Chris Daughtry and I have been threatening to unleash a duet for years. What better way to do that than by paying tribute to one of our mutual influences…. Final Trailer for “Plane” Starring Gerard Butler and Mike Colter

Gerard Butler is back in an upcoming action-thriller film “Plane” from French director Jean-François Richet.

In the film, Butler plays a pilot who is faced with protecting his passengers in the aftermath of a crash landing on an island. “No need to worry, folks, these planes are pretty much indestructible,” Butler says as a plane race through its path in the air.

The movie is based on Charles Cumming’s book and also stars, Mike Colter, Yoson An, Daniella Pineda, Paul Ben-Victor, Remi Adeleke, Joey Slotnick, Evan Dane Taylor, Claro de los Reyes, and Tony Goldwyn.

The film is set to be released by Lionsgate on January 13, 2023.

In the white-knuckle action movie PLANE, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island – only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. And being able to write the last four issues of this arc and bring some story elements to fruition was such a challenge but I’ve enjoyed it the whole way,” Ottley said. “Drawing comics is what I’m used to, writing is a whole different animal, but doing both jobs was great and makes me want to do it more often! Feels sad to wrap up the arc and move on, but it’s definitely one of my favorite comic experiences. Hulk will always be one of my favorite Marvel heroes. And now with Titan added to the rogues gallery, hopefully we’ll see him again someday in all his fury and glory!”
