“The Spirit of Halloweentown” Documentary to Debut October 24

The-Spirit-of-HalloweentownThe Spirit of Halloweentown, a new documentary from filmmakers Bradford Thomason and Brett Whitcomb (Jasper Mall, Butterfly in the Sky), will be released on October 24 via Amazon, Apple TV, and YouTube.

The film explores how St. Helens, Oregon, became synonymous with Halloween after serving as the filming location for the 1998 Disney Channel Original Movie Halloweentown. When the movie became a cult favorite, the town embraced its fame, turning itself into a year-round celebration of the holiday.

Thomason and Whitcomb’s documentary offers an intimate look at the locals who have built their identity around Halloween, blending humor and heart while revealing the community tensions that come with small-town fame.

‘Bouchra’ Directors Orian Barki & Meriem Bennani Spotlighted at NYFF and on New York Magazine Cover

bouchraFilmmakers Orian Barki and Meriem Bennani are having a standout festival moment with their feature Bouchra, which continues to draw acclaim at the New York Film Festival (NYFF) following its U.S. premiere in the Currents section.

The film’s warm reception comes alongside the duo’s appearance on the print cover of New York Magazine’s Look Book, released October 1. The feature highlights their creative partnership behind Bouchra, an 85-minute narrative exploring memory, artistic paralysis, and identity through the story of a Moroccan filmmaker in New York.

Produced by 2 Lizards, the film was financed by Fondazione Prada and executive produced by Hi Production. It marks a new chapter for Barki and Bennani, whose acclaimed animated series 2 Lizards premiered on Instagram in 2020 and was later added to the MoMA and Whitney Museum collections.

Bouchra follows its titular character as a phone call with her mother in Casablanca stirs buried memories and creative renewal. Told across Moroccan Arabic, French, and English, the film examines the intersections of family, migration, and the creative process.

The production team includes Cécile Winckler, Octavia Peissel, Ella Bishop, Pau Suris, with John Michael Boling and Jason Coombs serving as creative producers.

‘House of David’ Sets Digital and DVD Release Following Strong Prime Video Debut

House-of-DavidAfter drawing strong viewership on Prime Video, Lionsgate’s biblical drama House of David is expanding its reach with a digital release available now and a DVD launch set for October 28.

Created by Jon Erwin (I Can Only Imagine) and Jon Gunn, the series brings the Old Testament story of David and Goliath to life with a modern cinematic approach. The first season follows the fall of King Saul and the unlikely rise of David, a young outcast anointed to lead Israel.

Since its debut earlier this year, House of David has attracted more than 40 million viewers worldwide, including 22 million in its first 17 days on Prime Video—placing it among the streamer’s top 10 new series debuts in the U.S.

The cast features newcomer Michael Iskander as David, alongside Ali Suliman (Lone Survivor), Stephen Lang (Avatar), Ayelet Zurer (Daredevil: Born Again), Indy Lewis (Industry), and Oded Fehr (Star Trek: Discovery).

Season 2 is set to premiere exclusively for Wonder Project subscribers on Prime Video October 5, before a wider release on the platform later this year.

Selena Gomez, Mandy Teefey Executive Produce Docuseries “Suspicious Minds” Exploring AI and Delusion

Suspicious-MindsWondermind and Agoric Media have unveiled the trailer for Suspicious Minds, a new docuseries examining the intersection of artificial intelligence and mental health. Created and directed by Sean King O’Grady (The Mill, Our American Family), the eight-part series launches worldwide October 17 across YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Substack, and additional platforms.

Executive produced by Mandy Teefey and Selena Gomez, Suspicious Minds investigates how emerging technologies like chatbots and machine learning can act as catalysts for delusional thinking. Through firsthand accounts and expert commentary, the series highlights individuals who have developed AI-related psychoses and explores the thin line between perception, paranoia, and reality in the digital age.

The docuseries features psychiatrist Dr. Joel Gold and philosopher Ian Gold, PhD—who first identified the Truman Show Delusion—as well as AI researcher Nick Haber, ethicist Nate Sharadin, and Dr. Amy Levy of the American Psychoanalytic Association. O’Grady also appears on camera, guiding viewers through the growing psychological phenomenon.

James Badge Dale, Ben Foster, and Melissa Leo Star in John Swab’s Crime Epic “King Ivory”

King-IvoryThe official trailer and poster have debuted for King Ivory, the latest feature from filmmaker John Swab (Candy Land, Body Brokers), which opens in theaters nationwide on November 14.

The crime thriller, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and later screened as a Centerpiece selection at the 2025 Newport Beach Film Festival, stars James Badge Dale, Ben Foster, Michael Mando, Rory Cochrane, Ritchie Coster, George Carroll, Graham Greene, Melissa Leo, and Sam Quartin.

Set amid the fentanyl epidemic, King Ivory follows Tulsa drug cop Layne West (Dale), whose personal and professional worlds collide after his son becomes addicted to the deadly opioid. Determined to dismantle the local network responsible, West targets a chain of criminals that includes a cartel enforcer (Mando), a prison-based Native gang leader (Greene), and an Irish Mob family led by Foster and Leo.

Written and directed by Swab and produced by Jeremy M. Rosen, the film explores the human cost and complexity of America’s opioid crisis through intersecting lives across law enforcement, organized crime, and addiction.

Jack Black Boards Pirate Radio Documentary “40 Watts From Nowhere” as Executive Producer

Jack Black has boarded 40 Watts From Nowhere as executive producer. The music documentary from journalist and filmmaker Sue Carpenter chronicles the rise and fall of her 1990s Los Angeles pirate radio station, KBLT.

The film premiered at the 30th anniversary Slamdance Film Festival and later screened as a Centerpiece selection at Newport Beach. It features interviews with Tom Morello, Mike Watt, Don Bolles, and pirate radio activist Stephen Dunifer. Global sales are handled by Alex Nohe and Blood Sweat Honey.

Based on Carpenter’s 2004 memoir, the documentary revisits the Silver Lake scene through archival footage shot in 1998, when Carpenter ran her 40-watt station from an apartment closet, attracting guests like Mazzy Star and the Red Hot Chili Peppers before an FCC shutdown.

40 Watts From Nowhere marks Carpenter’s directorial debut. Black, a longtime figure in the Silver Lake music community, is represented by Ocean Avenue and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

Allen Danziger Returns to Horror in Satirical Slasher “The Weedhacker Massacre”

The-Weedhacker-MassacreBuffalo 8 will release The Weedhacker Massacre on digital platforms October 17. The meta-horror comedy, directed by Jody Stelzig, follows a film crew shooting a remake of a notorious slasher movie at the site of the original murders, only to find the masked killer has returned.

The film stars David Treviño (Rent Free), Molly Sakonchick (Storage Locker), Bobbie Grace (Fear the Walking Dead), Sean Reyna, Parrish Randall (Circus of the Dead), and Allen Danziger of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre fame, who also co-created and executive produced the project. The script was written and produced by Ray Spivey.

Following its world premiere at the Golden State Film Festival, The Weedhacker Massacre earned multiple awards at international festivals, including Best Comedy at the New York International Film Awards. The 95-minute feature is unrated.

The Offspring Announce 2026 North American Leg of Supercharged Worldwide Tour With Bad Religion

Image Comics Rallies 30 Series for Youngblood Team-Up Variant Campaign Ahead of Rob Liefeld’s Relaunch

YoungbloodImage Comics will celebrate the return of Rob Liefeld’s Youngblood this November with a coordinated wave of variant covers spanning 30 ongoing titles. The “team-up” variants will feature characters like Shaft, Badrock, Chapel, and Diehard illustrated by a lineup of top artists including Gary Frank, Ivan Reis, Bryan Hitch, and David Finch.

The campaign precedes the release of Youngblood (2025) #1, marking Liefeld’s return to his signature creation and the franchise’s first new issue under his direction in years. The launch will include 27 retailer exclusives, black-and-white editions, incentive variants, and the 30 crossover covers rolling out across Image’s current catalog.

“Seeing these legendary artists reimagine Youngblood has been the most exciting experience for me as both a creator and a fan,” Liefeld said. Image publisher Eric Stephenson added that the initiative “brings together the full creative energy of Image” ahead of the series’ debut.

Originally released in 1992, Youngblood #1 was the first comic published by Image and remains one of the best-selling independent titles of all time, with over one million copies sold.

Marvel Unveils Predator: Badlands #1, Comic Prelude to Upcoming Film From Dan Trachtenberg

Predator-BadlandsMarvel Comics has revealed Predator: Badlands #1, a one-shot prequel to the upcoming 20th Century Studios feature Predator: Badlands, directed by Dan Trachtenberg. The issue arrives November 12, just days after the film opens in theaters on November 7.

Written by Ethan Sacks (Star Wars: Bounty Hunters) with art by Elvin Ching in his Marvel debut, the comic is produced in close collaboration with Trachtenberg, who contributes a foreword. The story follows a young Yautja warrior named Dek on a mission to recover lost technology, leading to an encounter with an ancient threat.

The film stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi and introduces a new chapter of the Predator saga, set in the future on a remote planet. The prequel comic expands on that world, introducing key characters and events that connect directly to the movie.

Predator: Badlands #1 will feature multiple variant covers and is available for preorder now at comic shops.
