Queens-Based Festival of Cinema NYC 2024 Announces Film Lineup for Next Month’s Fest

festival-of-cinema-nycFestival of Cinema NYC returns to the Regal UA Midway in Forest Hills for the 8th edition of the popular Queens-based film festival, running from August 2-11. Additional venues this year include the Queens Public Library at Forest Hills, and Yant Tattoo Studios – the Official Filmmaker Lounge. This year the festival expands its programming with special presentations at the Queens Center Mall in Rego Park. The festival opens with Ivy Vale’s coming of age musical Out of My Comfort Zone and closes with the world premiere of Delfine Paolini’s A Wonderful Way with Dragons.

Additional world premieres among the feature film lineup include Laura Angiulli’s I Know You, Harrison Dillingham’s Mortimer, and Charles Caracciolo’s The Old Ballgame: The QBH Story. North American premieres include Andrey Getov’s Bo Nan Za, Francois Manceaux’s Encontro, Penny Zhou’s Hollywood Takeover: China’s Control in the Film Industry, Roman Balmakov’s No Farmers No Food: Will You Eat the Bugs?, Holger Borggrefe’s Once And For Real, and Jordi Torrent’s Third Week. The short films lineup adds an additional 12 world premieres and 2 North American premieres, as well.

Dark Sky Films’ Horror Comedy “BOOGER” Trailer Released

booger-horror-comedyDark Sky Films is set to release BOOGER to select theaters and digital/VOD on September 13th. BOOGER is the debut feature from writer-director Mary Dauterman and stars Strawberry Mansion’s Grace Glowicki.

It blends “body horror with comedy in a story of intense female friendship and its tragic loss, all backgrounded by a tale of supernatural transformation.”

The film follows New Yorker Anna (Grace Glowicki, Strawberry Mansion), who has just suffered the sudden and unexpected death of her best friend and roommate, Izzy (Sofia Dobrushin, Mean Girls 2024 ). She’s trying to handle this loss when Izzy’s cat, Booger, runs away. Anna goes on a desperate search to find him and in the process, she is bitten on the hand by the cat. She soon begins to take on feline characteristics. and her work life and relationship with her boyfriend start to go downhill.

The film also stars Garrick Bernard (Single Drunk Female), Marcia DeBonis (Sometimes I Think About Dying, 13 Going on 30), David Rysdahl (Oppenheimer, Fargo) and indie icon Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Scream 3).

John Cena & Awkwafina in Dark Comedy “Jackpot!”

jackpotAmazon MGM Studios has released the full trailer for its upcoming action comedy “Jackpot” which star Awkwafina, John Cena and Simu Liu.

In the film set in the near future, a ‘Grand Lottery’ has been newly established in California – the catch: kill the winner before sundown to legally claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot. When Katie Kim (Awkwafina) moves to Los Angeles, she mistakenly finds herself with the winning ticket.

Desperate to survive the hordes of jackpot hunters, she reluctantly joins forces with amateur lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena) who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of her prize. However, Noel must face off with his slick rival Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), who also seeks to collect Katie’s commission at all costs.

Directed by Paul Feig, Jackpot! also stars Ayden Mayeri, Donald Elise Watkins, Murray Hill, and Sam Asghari and is set to premiere on August 15 on Prime Video.

Poster And Trailer For Mystery drama “Midnight Taxi”

midnight-taxiDriving a Black Cab night after night is a quiet and simple life for Eddie Carter, but when Eddie’s daytime sleep schedule is disturbed by construction work next door, he finds his nighttime shifts requiring more coffee and exhaustion setting in. After pulling over for a break one night, he awakens to a terrifying situation: ahead of his cab is the body of a murdered woman.

After this gruesome discovery and reporting it to the police, Eddie tries to move on by the sight and his tiredness haunts him. The following night he awakens from a dream of the murder scene to find that he has started sleepwalking again, a condition he suffered from as a child. Panic creeps in as he realises that there is a chance he may have been involved in the woman’s murder.

In an effort to clear his conscience, Eddie starts to quietly investigate the murder on his own. With the help of frequent customer, investigative journalist Adam Blomfield, and high-end escort Karli as a window into the underground world of London’s sex industry, Eddie soon finds himself immersed in the murky depths of a city he’s been blindly driving through for years.

Tom Hanks and Robin Wright Reunite in “Here” Trailer

HereDirector Robert Zemeckis upcoming drama “Here” has released a brand new trailer.

Based on the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name by Richard McGuire, the film reunites Forrest Gump stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright.

“Here” is an odyssey through time and memory, according to the film’s synopsis, “centered around a place in New England where—from wilderness, and then, later, from a home—love, loss, struggle, hope and legacy play out between couples and families over generations.”

=Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, Michelle Dockery, Jonathan Aris and Leslie Zemeckis are also in the movie.

“Here” is set for release in theaters on November 15, 2024.

Official Trailer For Animated Series Batman: Caped Crusader Released

Voicing the characters are Hamish Linklater as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Christina Ricci as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn/Harleen Quinzel, and Diedrich Bader as Two-Face/Harvey Dent.

Also in the series are Jason Watkins as Alfred Pennyworth, Eric Morgan Stuart as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Krystal Joy Brown as Barbara Gordon, Michelle C. Bonilla as Renee Montoya, and Bumper Robinson as Lucius Fox.

“Clear Cut”: New Trailer And Poster For Lionsgate’s Upcoming Thriller

clear-cutLionsgate has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming thriller “Clear Cut”, which shows Alec Baldwin as a veteran logger who learns his new employee has a dark and violent past.

Directed by Brian Skiba and written by Joe Perruccio, “Clear Cut” is set to arrive in theaters and via digital and on-demand on July 19.

Also in the film are Clive Standen, Lucy Martin, Jesse Metcalfe, Tom Welling, Lochlyn Munro, Chelsey Reist, Tom Stevens, Mike Dopud, and Stephen Dorff.
