By Creative Media Times

Warner Bros.

Its been a long road for the Amazonian princess to the big screen, more than 75 years since her debut in All Star Comics# 8 in 1941, but now the time has finally arrived.

The review embargo on Wonder Woman has just been lifted Monday, and based on early feedback, it seems fans and comics geeks have a lot to celebrate. As of Tuesday morning, the movie has a 97% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.com with 58 reviews in. The critics consensus is that the movie is “thrilling, earnest, and buoyed by Gal Gadot’s charismatic performance, Wonder Woman succeeds in spectacular fashion.”

Cath Clarke from Time Out boldly compares the movie with ‘Indiana Jones’, describing Wonder Woman as “a rollicking action adventure… with a fully functioning sense of humour and the year’s most lip-smackingly evil baddie.”

The review from Entertainment Weekly‘s Chris Nashawaty is just as positive, gushing that “Wonder Woman is smart, slick, and satisfying in all of the ways superhero films ought to be.”

“The Fate Of The Furious” Crosses $1 Billion Internationally

By Creative Media Times

Photo: Universal Pictures

The eighth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise, “The Fate Of The Furious” becomes only the eight film in history to cross the $1 billion boxoffice milestone internationally.

As of Sunday, the F. Gary Gray has made $1.223 billion. The film joins five other movies such as “Avatar” ($2 billion), “Titanic” ($1.5 billion), “Furious 7” ($1.16 billion), “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($1.1 billion), and “Jurassic World” ($1 billion) in the exclusive list of movies crossing the $1 billion international boxoffice threshold.

Domestically, the film is still in 1,358 screens and made $1,480,535 over the 4-day Memorial Day holiday weekend. Globally, the movie is currently the 2nd highest grossing film of 2017, narrowly behind Beauty and the Beast (2017), with a mere $9 million separating the two. It would be interesting to see where both end up ranking when all is said and done.

Universal has already dated ‘Fast & Furious’ Parts 9 and 10, and ‘F8”s boxoffice gains this week will most likely solidify production of those sequels.

Review: U2 Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Iconic ‘Joshua Tree’ Album

By Armando

U2. The Joshua Tree Tour 2017

In early 1987, U2 embarked on a tour in support of “The Joshua Tree”, an album that was inspired by the band’s earlier trips around America. Almost instantly, both album and tour were commercial and critical successes, and by end of that year, U2 was bigger than ever, with the album topping charts around the world and receiving near universal acclaim. To say The Joshua Tree was pivotal to the band’s success would be an understatement; the album signaled the arrival of U2 on the global stage and, for better or worse, defined many of the band’s creative decisions since.

Thirty years later, the band is revisiting that iconic album on the road with the ‘The Joshua Tree Tour 2017’. Packing AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Friday night with the most enthusiastic fans from different generations, cities and cultures, its was an awe-inspiring night that shows how timeless the album is, how its message resonates as strongly as ever, especially in this fractured time in America.

As the band’s first tour in support of a back catalog, ‘The Joshua Tree Tour 2017’ reminds us that U2 is now entering a different phase in their career. It has been awhile since the band charted a hit single and album. But like the all-time greats, U2’s impact is measured by their live performances and concert tours, and as such ‘The Joshua Tree Tour 2017’ did not disappoint; it was visual and auditory spectacle and a great treat to nostalgic fans who wants to see the album fully come to life… from start to finish.

Yes, the band played the album sequentially, from beginning to end, including “Red Hill Mining Town” which the band has never played live before. Surrounded by a breathtakingly gigantic widescreen behind the stage which showcased various landscapes in America, the band played every song with passion and purpose. Bono, The Edge, and bassist Adam Clayton moved around and covered the stage like pros that they are, while drummer Larry Mullen Jr. held his ground. It was a spectacular sight to behold.

That album set was book-ended by pre-Joshua Tree songs (the anthemic “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, tour staples “New Year’s Day”, “Bad”, “Pride (In the Name of Love)”), an encore that is both emotional and stirring (“Miss Sarajevo”, “Ultraviolet”, “One”), and a celebratory finale that sent the stadium on it’s feet (“Beautiful Day”, “Elevation”, “I Will Follow”).

As one might expect, Bono came with socio-political commentary on his back-pocket: at one point thanking George Bush for his commitment to AIDS activism, then later reminding that they are guests in the country, among others. During one of his speeches, Bono made a fleeting mention of their humbling 1981 Dallas debut at the now defunct Club Bijou, a name Bono struggled to remember but somehow reminds us again how ‘The Joshua Tree’ transformed and catapulted the band from clubs to the world’s biggest stage.

The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 will bring U2 to various cities in North America including headlining Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, and with a second leg across Europe starting in London in July 8. Armando

Top Gun 2 Is “Definitely Happening”

By Creative Media Times

It looks like Maverick is coming back for more aerial stunts to the danger zone. Tom Cruise confirmed the long-rumored sequel during a recent interview with Australian morning show “Sunrise“. “It is definitely happening,” Cruise said when asked about the sequel. The actor also mentioned that the movie will go in production next year.

Directed by the late Tony Scott, the romantic military action drama was released in 1986 and became a commercial success, grossing $356 million. That movie’s soundtrack sold 9x multiplatinum and somewhat responsible for the film’s legacy after the song “Take My Breath Away” won Academy Award for Best Original Song. Despite mixed critical reception during its release, the movie has since developed a cult following and later won for an IMAX 3D re-release in 2013.

Talk of a Top Gun sequel have been on and off for years.Cruise’s character “Maverick”, a cocky and reckless navy pilot who later fell for flight instructor Charlie, is one of the most well known in the actor’s filmography. But planned stalled after Tony Scott, younger brother of film director Sir Ridley Scott, committed suicide in 2012. Sequel plans picked up again after it was reported that writer Justin Marks was in negotiations to work on the sequel.

Joss Whedon Taking Over “Justice League” After Zack Snyder Family Tragedy

By Creative Media Times

Zack Snyder

In a sad turn of events, director Zack Snyder who has been linchpin of DC Cinematic Universe for a few years now, is stepping away from his roles in the upcoming ‘Justice League’ movie to deal with a family tragedy.

Snyder and wife producer Deborah Snyder recently lost their daughter Autumn to suicide last March. “In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was the way through it,” said Snyder to the Hollywood Reporter.

“What they are going through is unimaginable, and my heart, our hearts, go out to them,” says Warner Bros. Pictures president Toby Emmerich.

Stepping in to finish the project will be Joss Whedon, who recently made news for making a jump from Marvel to DC and is “nearing a deal to write, direct and produce” a Batgirl movie as part of DC’s Extended Universe.

According to the article, Whedon will work through post and the “shooting of some additional scenes,” and that the movie is still scheduled for its original Nov.17 release date.
