The cast and creators of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 took over Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con with new footage, returning stars, and a few surprises.

The panel kicked off with moderator Juju Green (aka Straw Hat Goofy) introducing director Emma Tammi and producer Jason Blum, to tease what’s coming in the sequel.

Tammi revealed there are over three times as many animatronics this time around, with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop once again handling the designs. “We wanted to make them feel real,” she said. “Like they could actually be standing in front of you.”

Josh Hutcherson (Mike) and Piper Rubio (Abby) returned to talk about where their characters are now: Abby is still grieving her animatronic friends and builds something for her science fair as a tribute, while Mike is trying to keep life normal.

New cast members Teo Briones and Theodus Crane joined the panel as well. Briones plays a paranormal vlogger in the sequel, while Crane’s character is a close friend who’s skeptical about a potential romance between Mike and Vanessa.

Matthew Lillard, who couldn’t attend in person, sent in a hilarious video message thanking fans for the success of the first film and joking that if enough people see the sequel, they’ll get to make a third.

He closed his message by introducing his Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich, who then walked onstage to loud cheers. Ulrich kept details about his role vague, only saying he plays someone with “a very specific past” and “a deep emotional tie to what’s going on.”

The panel closed with new footage, giving fans a glimpse at returning animatronics, including Mangle and the Marionette, along with promises of more action and deeper lore.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 hits theaters this December.

Johnny Depp, Ridley Scott, and Mechanical Cake Launch Dark New Venture, HYDE

Jesse-Negron-Mechanical-CakeIn a rare pairing of Hollywood star power and comic book grit, Johnny Depp and Ridley Scott are teaming up with Mechanical Cake’s Jesse Negron to launch HYDE, a new entertainment venture unveiled ahead of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Created by Negron, HYDE reimagines the aftermath of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, exploring a world where Hyde has fully taken over. Set in the sewers beneath London, the story follows Hyde as he conducts twisted experiments to create others like himself. Depp will help shape the character and narrative, while Scott lends his world-building expertise as co-owner of the project.

“This is a no-brainer,” Scott said upon seeing early concept art. Depp called the project “insane and beautiful,” highlighting the creative freedom behind the venture.

The HYDE graphic novel will span two volumes—each over 200 pages—and is set to launch with a preview “ashcan” edition at Comic-Con this week. Attendees can pick up the limited edition at the panel HYDE: When the Worlds of Graphic Novels and Movies Collide, Thursday in Hall H, or pre-order the first chapter, due out this Halloween.

With a team that includes artists Gary Erskine and Chris Weston, and comic veteran Dave Elliott as editor, HYDE is poised to blur the line between graphic storytelling and cinematic ambition.

Keanu Reeves received an Inkpot Award on Saturday during the BRZRKR panel at Comic-Con International, recognizing his contributions to comics and film. The surprise presentation took place in Hall H, where the actor was met with a standing ovation from the crowd.

The Inkpot Award, given by Comic-Con International, honors individuals for outstanding work in comics, science fiction and fantasy, film, television, animation, and fandom. “Honestly, if it were just my choice, I would have given it to you just for The Matrix,” said Eddie Ibrahim, Director of Programming, as he handed Reeves the award.

Reeves, who rose to fame in 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, has since become a cinematic mainstay through films like Point Break, Speed, and the genre-defining Matrix franchise. “The Matrix changed my life,” Reeves said onstage. “Over these years, it’s changed so many other people’s lives in really positive ways.”

The panel centered on BRZRKR, Reeves’ original comic book series co-written with Matt Kindt. Reeves is set to star in a live-action film adaptation of the story, with an animated Netflix series also in development. Artist Ron Garney, who illustrated the series, joined Reeves onstage, along with screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, who is writing the film version and is also behind the upcoming Terminator Zero series.

Reeves’ appearance added star power to a packed Hall H schedule, and his dual role as both storyteller and big-screen cinema icon was celebrated by fans and creators alike.
