After handily topping the boxoffice this weekend, its really no surprise that New Line/DC will be lining up a sequel to Shazam! to its slate. According to The Wrap, writer Henry Gayden is also set to return for the sequel. The man who helmed the film to critical success, David F. Sandberg, is also expected to return along with its producer Peter Safran.
Shazam grossed $159 million worldwide this weekend on a $90 million budget, and based off the film’s A CinemaScore, many believe the film will continue to play well throughout the coming weeks until Avengers: Endgame arrive at the end of the month.
No plot details have been announce so far, but the way Shazam ended the story as well as a couple of its post-credit scenes should offer some clues.
Shazam is currently playing in theaters. DC’s next film arrives in October, followed by Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman in 2020.
