A prequel to the 1978 blockbuster hit musical “Grease” is reportedly in development by Paramount Studios’ division Paramount Players, this according to Hollywood Reporter.Titled “Summer Nights,” the film will tackle the fling that high school characters Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Olivia Newton John (Sandy Olsson) initially had before their paths crossed during high school senior year.
John August is said to be writing the film’s screenplay. August was responsible for writing Go (1999), Big Fish (2003), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and Frankenweenie (2012).
The 1978 film was a global blockbuster as well as a critical hit, while its soundtrack remains one of the best selling albums of all time, producing hits such as Hopelessly Devoted to You, and You’re the One That I Want.
The film was followed by a sequel in 1982 starring Michelle Pheiffer and Maxwell Caulfield.





Directed by Maia Wechsler, “If The Dancer Dances” opens theatrically in New York (The Quad) on Friday, April 26th and in Los Angeles on Friday, May 3rd (Laemmle Music Hall) with a national release to follow.
