Disney Releases First “Jungle Cruise” Trailer

By Creative Media Times

Disney has just dropped the first trailer for its upcoming adventure film, Jungle Cruise, and it looks like another fun summer blockbuster winner.

Loosely based on the Disney theme park attraction of the same name, the film stars Emily Blunt stars as explorer-scientist Lily and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a riverboat tour guide captain Frank.

There’s plenty of action and charm packed within 2 minutes of the trailer, which gives off mixed vibes of adventures such as Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mummy, with a little bit of Romancing the Stone and The African Queen.

Directed by Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, House of Wax, The Commuter), the film also stars Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

Jungle Cruise is set for release in theaters July 24, 2020.

Morbius Artist Marcelo Ferreira Signs Exclusive Agreement With Marvel

Announced this past weekend at New York Comic-Con’s Retailer Panel, artist Marcelo Ferreira has signed an exclusive agreement with Marvel Comics. Known for his work on books like WAR OF THE REALMS: PUNISHER, FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN, and ABSOLUTE CARNAGE VS. DEADPOOL, Ferreira has already garnered praise from fans and critics alike for his takes on some of Marvel’s most iconic characters.

Now he’ll be bringing Morbius the Living Vampire to life with writer Vita Ayala in an all-new ongoing series debuting in November. Proven to be a powerhouse in delivering fearsome action sequences, Ferreira’s skills will no doubt make MORBIUS’ struggles and adventures more frightening than they’ve ever been before!

“I have been working with Marvel for the past 12 months, and I am nothing but thrilled that I have been offered this exclusive deal,” says Ferreira. “Starting with MORBIUS, I am sure we will be able to deliver great comics to the fans for another year and on!”

“Working with Marcelo is an amazing collaborative experience! He is always excited for and engaged in the project, and always has so many ideas to bring to the table,” says Ayala. “Every page I see on MORBIUS is a thousand times more intense and dynamic than I imagined. I am so happy to be able to work with him!”

“Marcelo is an incredible talent, one who I was fortunate enough to work with before MORBIUS on ABSOLUTE CARNAGE VS DEADPOOL. In reading those issues before they went to the printer I – and I think everyone here at Marvel – was struck by Marcelo’s classic action sensibilities,” says Editor Devin Lewis. “Marcelo’s style fit in perfectly with what we were building across ABSOLUTE CARNAGE, and when it came time to start building a MORBIUS book, he immediately caught my eye. It’s clear from the very first page of his work that you see that Marcelo is a huge Marvel fan and has done his homework. HOW TO DRAW COMICS THE MARVEL WAY is in the marrow (hah!) of his work, and Marcelo gives the reader something on every single page, if not every single panel. The work he’s been doing in MORBIUS is some of the most visceral, scary and, yes, bloody stuff I’ve ever worked on in my time at the House of Ideas, and I’m so excited for everyone out there to sink their teeth into it!”

Star Debuting In January From Marvel

Star, an exciting addition to Marvel Comics’ legendary lineup of super heroes, will have her very own limited series this January. Announced at the NYCC Retailer Panel, the breakout character from the pages of CAPTAIN MARVEL will be starring in her own adventure, written by current CAPTAIN MARVEL scribe and Star’s creator, Kelly Thompson.

Star had her first appearance this past July in CAPTAIN MARVEL #8 and the mystery surrounding her identity combined with a stunning character design from artist Carmen Carnero had readers clamoring to learn more about who she was.

“The excitement surrounding Star has been really fun to watch,” says Kelly Thompson. “And there’s still a big surprise coming in CAPTAIN MARVEL #11 later this month…and it’s the kind of surprise that sort of DEMANDS a mini-series like this to explore the mysteries surrounding her and her importance and potential in the larger Marvel Universe.”

“The whole CAPTAIN MARVEL team loved the character from the beginning, but the fan and retailer response to her has been overwhelming. We’re very grateful and excited to push her even higher in the spotlight,” says Editor Sarah Brunstad. “We had such a great time developing her and waiting for her big moment, and I’m ecstatic that Carmen is staying with the character to do the covers for this miniseries.”

The Screenwriters Network Launches 1st Annual “Killer Shorts” Horror Short Screenplay Competition

Award-winning screenwriter and contest director Alison Parker announced today the launch of the first annual “Killer Shorts Horror Short Screenplay Competition”.

In the past few years, horror shorts have become a goldmine for Hollywood. Feature films such as The Babadook, Lights Out, Mama, and Saw originated as proof-of-concept shorts. Shorts like Whisper, The Burden, Behind, Sweet Tooth, and Milk, were discovered by producers like James Wan and Sam Raimi and are now in development as features.

It all starts with the script.

“Our goal is to motivate, inspire, and guide screenwriters to write horror shorts with feature adaptation potential.” said Alison Parker, Contest Director. “We’re looking for big ideas. The best horror shorts rely heavily on visual scares and unique world building. Putting this kind of terror on the page isn’t for the faint of heart. For the few who succeed, this could be the break that launches their career.”
