“Game of Thrones” came back swinging with 22 Emmy nominations. The nominees were announced Thursday, July 12 by actress Samira Wiley and actor Ryan Eggold. Also doing well were “Westworld” and “Saturday Night Live,” with each getting 21 nods.
This is also a groundbreaking year for streaming, with Netflix leading the way with 112 nominations, beating all other networks and perennial nominations leader HBO. This haul was fueled by shows such as “The Crown,” “Godless,” “Stranger Things,” and “GLOW,” all of which received more than 10 nominations apiece.
But HBO won’t give up without a fight. Led by “Game of Thrones,” the network is not far behind with 108 nods.
