Sing J. Lee is an award-winning writer and director of Hong Kong descent, born in Manchester, UK. With a background in music, illustration, and animation, Lee’s early short films have garnered nominations including BBC Best of the North, which led to a decade-long foray in the music video and commercial space; working with artists including Pharrell, Donald Glover, Alicia Keys, Migos, and Halsey, among others. Prevalent through all is Lee’s distinct cultivation of visual language and exploration of themes of duality and human spirit.

Here’s the film’s synopsis:

Long, a Vietnamese driver in Southern California answers a late-night call for a ride. Already in his pajamas, he reluctantly accepts, picking up a man, Tây, and his two companions. But the men, recently escaped convicts from an Orange County jail, take Long hostage at gunpoint, thrusting him into their getaway plan. When complications arise, the fugitives and their hostage hole up at a motel, and a tense waiting game unfolds.

“Somebody I Used To Know” Official Trailer Released

Somebody I Used To Know Official Trailer ReleasedPrime Video has released the official trailer for the upcoming new film “Somebody I Used To Know” from Dave Franco, who wrote and directed the film. The romantic comedy film features Franco’s his wife Alison Brie, who also co-wrote the script.

Also in the film are Kiersey Clemons, Jay Ellis, Julie Hagerty, Haley Joel Osment and Amy Sedaris.

Franco has also directed Brie in the 2020 horror film The Rental.

In “Somebody I Used To Know”, Ally (Brie) who reunites with an ex-boyfriend on a trip, makes her start to question all of her prior life choices. The turn of events gets confusing when she meets Cassidy (Clemons), a younger woman who reminds her of the person she used to be.

“Somebody I Used To Know” is set for release February 10, 2023 on Prime Video.

In the film, an Australian teenager plans to become the youngest sailor to have travelled the world alone. In doing so, the intrepid 16-year-old not only seeks to fulfil her dream, she also faces her greatest fears at the same time.

The film stars Teagan Croft, Cliff Curtis, Anna Paquin, and Josh Lawson. The film is directed by Sarah Spillane from the screenplay of Sarah Spillane, Cathy Randall.

Netflix is set to release “True Spirit” on February 3, 2023.

Featuring Rachel McAdams, Abby Ryder Fortson, Benny Safdie, and Kathy Bates, the film is based on the 1970 novel of the same name by Judy Blume. It is written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig (The Edge of Seventeen) and Gracie Films’ Academy Award®-winning producer James L. Brooks.

“Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” is set for theatrical release on April 28, 2023, by Lionsgate.

At 11, Margaret is moving to a new town and beginning to contemplate everything about life, friendship, and adolescence. She relies on her mother (McAdams), who offers loving support but is herself finding her own footing in a new place, and her grandmother Sylvia (Bates), who is coming to terms with finding happiness in the next phase of her life. For all three, questions of identity, one’s place in the world, and what brings meaning to a life will draw them closer together than ever before.

Directed by Jason Moore, the romantic action comedy also stars Sônia Braga, Cheech Marin, Selena Tan, D’Arcy Carden, Callie Hernandez, Desmin Borges, Steve Coulter, Alberto Isaac, and Lenny Kravitz.

Coolidge is once again the scene stealer. She plays the mother of Josh Duhamel’s character Tom. “I’ve been looking forward to this moment ever since baby Tommy was cut out of my abdomen,” Coolidge’s Carol says, as wedding preparations get underway.

In the film, Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) get their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple get cold feet. But suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. The couple must work together to save their loved ones — if they don’t end up killing each other first.

Shotgun Wedding premieres on Prime Video on January 27, 2023.

Unicorn Wars Technicolor Feature Sets ReleaseGKIDS, the acclaimed producer and distributor of animation for adult and family audiences, announced today it will release “Unicorn Wars”, the latest genre-bending animated feature for adults from Goya and Annecy Cristal-winning director Alberto Vásquez (Birdboy: The Forgotten Children) starting March 10, 2023.

The technicolor feature will be released theatrically in select markets nationwide, and will also be available on demand from March 10, 2023.

The technicolor horror-comedy featured in competition at the 2022 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and was an official selection at BFI London, Animation is Film, and Fantastic Fest.

“Unicorn Wars” marks the next collaboration between GKIDS and Alberto Vázquez, following GKIDS’ local distribution of the Goya Award-winning feature Birdboy: The Forgotten Children and short film Decorado.

BAFTA Film Awards Announce Longlists with “All Quiet on the Western Front”, “Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere” Leading

All Quiet on the Western FrontBAFTA Film Awards has released its first round of voting across all 24 categories, with “All Quiet on the Western Front”, “Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere” emerging as frontrunners.

“All Quiet on the Western Front” got the most showing, including Film Not In The English Language, Best Film, and Adapted Screenplay. Meanwhile, Martin McDonagh’s “Banshees of Inisherin” was on Best Film, Best Director, and Screenplay, and Colin Farrell for Leading Actor, and Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, and Kerry Condon for Best Supporting Actor and Actress longlists.

BAFTA Film Committee Chair, Anna Higgs, said: “The publication of the EE BAFTA Film Awards Longlist is a very special moment to recognise the wide range of exceptional crafts, performances and productions that make the magic of films a reality. To be Longlisted is a fantastic achievement amidst the phenomenal films released in the last year. Sharing the list ahead of the Nominations will hopefully inspire the public to watch as many films as possible and join in the conversation as excitement builds for the Awards.”

The nominations for the EE BAFTA Film Awards will be announced on Thursday 19 January at 12 midday (GMT).
