“Suburbicon” Trailer Sees Matt Damon’s Life Crumble

By Creative Media Times

Paramount PIctures

“Welcome to Suburbicon. A town of wonder and excitement. With the promise of prosperity for all. Isn’t it time for your new start?” That’s the narrator heard on the background of the latest trailer for George Clooney’s “Suburbicon.”

What makes this narration strange and disturbing are the scenes that came before it, where we see a distraught husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon), a harrowing home invasion that may have killed his wife, a shady and suspicious insurance investigator (Oscar Isaac), and Garden’s somber son (Noah Jupe) who witnessed it all.

From there things went very dark, twisted and violent very fast, as we see scenes of street riots, mobsters in police lineup, Gardner’s sister Margaret (Julianne Moore) crushing pills for a peanut butter jelly sandwich, and a blood-soaked Gardner pedaling away on little child’s bicycle. “It’s all falling apart Maggie,” Gardner says to Margaret.

If all these sound very Coen-esque, it is because the Coen Brothers wrote the script with Clooney and Grant Heslov. Heslov of course is another longtime Clooney collaborator. Cloenslov anyone?

All in all, the film looks and sounds like another delicious dark comedy we come to expect from the team. But don’t tell that to Clooney; the multi-hyphenate star insists the movie isn’t a laugh out loud comedy. “It’s a pretty angry and dark film, which is sort of what we wanted to make at the time,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

Paramount Pictures is set to release Suburbicon on October 27.

Here’s the film’s official plot outline:

Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns …the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must navigate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence. This is a tale of very flawed people making very bad choices. This is Suburbicon.

Marvel Announces Exclusive Agreement With Writer Ed Brisson

Ed Brisson joins the House of Ideas writing Old Man Logan, Iron Fist and more

New York, NY—August 21, 2017—Marvel Entertainment is excited to announce that writer Ed Brisson will bring his powerhouse storytelling and creative flair to Marvel in an exclusive agreement. Brisson, who has made his mark with engaging work across the comic industry, is currently writing acclaimed Marvel books Iron Fist and Old Man Logan. He will continue to write exclusively for Marvel in this new agreement.

“I’ve been a huge Marvel fan since I was a kid. I grew up with stacks of Spider-Man, Punisher, Daredevil, Ghost Rider and X-Men littering my bedroom floor. The comics would be in tatters because I would read them repeatedly, often having to tape the covers back on,” said Brisson. “I remember being on vacation when Kraven’s Last Hunt was coming out and begging my mom to drive me a half hour to the closest town with a convenience store so that I wouldn’t miss out on the latest issue. It’s still surreal to me that I’m currently writing some of those characters that I grew up reading. I don’t know that I’ll ever get over that feeling. I hope that I don’t.”

New music slated from Weezer and Robert Plant this October

By Eric Gasa

Weezer – Pacific Daydream

Atlantic . Crush

Weezer are back with a follow up to last year’s White Album. Pacific Daydream, their 11th record, is due out October 27 with an extensive summer tour heading far into 2018. Originally suspected to be the long awaited Black Album, Pacific Daydream came to be as the songwriting process shifted from darker elements to “reveries from a beach at the end of the world,” according to a press release.

Pacific Dream’s first single, “Feels Like Summer” trades the pop-punk guitars for a bouncy electronic pop beat ala Imagine Dragons or 21 Pilots. Frontman Rivers Cuomo shouts about youthful insecurities despite being 47 years old but still sings like he’s 24 again. It’s a far cry from 90’s classics like “Sweater Song” and “Buddy Holly” but “Feels Like Summer” is sure to be heard blasting at a beach somewhere.

The more traditional “Mexican Fender” finds the band doing what they do best; singing about girls, guitars, and nerdy idiosyncrasies. Fitting to the title, Pacific Daydream is still stepped in Weezer’s signature sunbaked, California style. Check the charming video for “Mexican Fender” starring a lovesick seagull.

Robert Plant – Carry Fire

© Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant delves into his love for blues and acoustic guitars on his newest single, “The May Queen”. The song is the first from his forthcoming record, Carry Fire, which is due out October 13 via Nonesuch Records. On “The May Queen” the fiery singer takes a break from the heavy rhythms to deliver a softer, sweeter slice of his songwriting. Think more “Stairway to Heaven” or “Going To California” than “When The Levee Breaks” or “Immigrant Song”.

Some Zeppelin fans will notice the sly “Stairway to Heaven” reference in “The May Queen” but this song could not be more different from his original work. Regarding the recording process, Plant says that he prefers “mixing old with new”.

“The May Queen” is especially unique wherein we see Plant take a twangier approach reminiscent of Paul Simon and acoustic world music. Country-style fiddles permeate the song alongside slide guitars and a choir. If “The May Queen” is a primer to Carry Fire then fans should expect a warmer side of the former frontman.

“Out here the fire’s still burning so long into my night,” Plant sings, “Still captive and still yearning/Surrender to your light.”

Black-ish Spin off Series Grown-ish set to Premiere Early 2018

By Cameron Pridmore

ABC

The winter television line up just keeps getting better and better, a new spin off series is set to premiere in the first half of 2018. ABC has ordered 13 episodes of “grown-ish” which is a spin off of the smash hit black-ish starring Anthony Anderson. This new series is going to feature Yara Shahidi reprising her role as Zoey Johnson, this time experience college life without her parents. The show will take place in current setting, where Zoey has gone off on her own to college and must now adapt to a different kind of life. The show which is going to feature an entirely new cast, looks to focus on some of the tougher issues that are facing young college students today but with a comedic take.

While it is still unknown yet what part Anthony Anderson will play in this new series, we can rest be assured that he will at least make a few cameo appearances. The original series Black-ish which premiered in 2014, quickly became a smash hit already lasting four seasons and going strong. The series which is known for tackling the tough issues of race and family in America, while adding a comedic kick to it. The show has won countless awards, and the new spin off series hopes to ride this wave. Obviously with all that has gone on so far, the plot line seems juicy enough. Zoey had already been fighting with her dad about religion and other topics, building up to the premiere of this series, so we can only wonder what she will do while on her own.

The Conjuring series continues to make a killing at the boxoffice. After “Annabelle: Creation” took in more than $110 million this week, the horror film franchise from New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Pictures, has now surpassed the $1 billion at the global boxoffice.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of New Line, and without question, the horror genre has always been an integral and important part of the company’s DNA.” stated Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. MTV’s Iconic Franchise “Unplugged” Set to Return

By Cameron Pridmore

Mariah Carey for MTV Unplugged

Way back yonder before there was Spotify or Pandora, and way before music download services like iTunes, the way that you found out about new music was MTV. The music powerhouse was launched in 1981, and brought with it the music video revolution, as well as some pretty memorable television shows. Now of course you had your Bevis and Butt head, but there was also a wonderful little morsel called Unplugged. The show which ran in two different formats one from 1981 to 1999, and then Unplugged 2.0 which was ran until 2009, was one of the most popular music television shows of its time.

The press release by new the network on Tuesday illustrates that the network is bringing the franchise back, acknowledging that Unplugged was one of the networks strongest franchises and one that built MTV over the years. The press release did not exactly illustrate what type of format the show will take on this time, but undoubtedly it will most likely take on its previous tremendously popular format as before. The return of this iconic television franchise is MTV admitting that their network has really fallen off as of late, the channel which was built on music is now nothing more than a cesspool of reality television programs.

The unplugged series was built on live performances, and the premise of the show is built around the fact that it is an acoustic performance. Generally it was a showcase of the artist’s vocal talents, as well as their song writing abilities. The lack of the use of an amplifier or any electronics gave fans an intimate experience with their favorite artists and this helped the ratings explode during the last half of the 90s. The show also spawned some great album releases from the live sessions, which all sold double platinum. Some of these releases were from Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, and even the Eagles just to name a few.
