MTV Documentary Films Sets Release Of “Art & Krimes By Krimes”

MTV Documentary Films has set the release of “Art & Krimes By Krimes”, a documentary featuring visual artists Jesse Krimes, Russell Craig, Jared Owens, Gilberto Rivera.

The film is set for release on theaters starting Friday, September 30 in New York at Quad Cinema, and Los Angeles at Laemmle Monica Film Center.

While locked up for six years in federal prison, artist Jesse Krimes secretly creates monumental works of art—including an astonishing 30-foot mural made with prison bed sheets, hair gel, and newspaper. He smuggles out each panel piece-by-piece with the help of fellow artists, only seeing the mural in totality upon coming home.

As Jesse’s work captures the art world’s attention, he struggles to adjust to life outside, living with the threat that any misstep will trigger a life sentence.

The film is directed by Alysa Nahmias and produced by Alysa Nahmias, Amanda Spain, Benjamin Murray and executive produced by Sheila Nevins.

New Trailer Release For Genre Doc “The Horror Crowd

Buffalo 8 has announced a release date of September 2 on digital and video on demand for The Horror Crowd. The documentary also marks the feature directorial debut for Ruben Pla.

The film has played to film festivals such as FrightFest and Grimmfest and has earned several festival honors including Santa Fe Film Festival’s “Best Director,” “Best Horror Feature” from London Independent Film Festival and “Best Documentary” at Seattle Film Festival.

The film features an all-star cast of actors and filmmakers to discuss the Hollywood horror community, covering such wide-ranging topics as women in horror, race relations, “being the weird kid,” and film festivals, as well as the unique community and support that exists in the space.

Michelle Yeoh To Receive SBIFF’s 15th Annual Kirk Douglas Award For Excellence In Film

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is honored to announce global icon Michelle Yeoh will be receiving the 15th annual Kirk Douglas Award For Excellence In Film. This marks the first time since the passing of screen legend Kirk Douglas that the honor will be awarded. The award, which benefits Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s year-round educational programs, will be presented on Friday, December 9 at a Black-Tie dinner at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara.

“A well-deserved honor for the legendary and multi-talented Michelle Yeoh. She has been entertaining and thrilling us in films since the 1980s …… AND she does her own stunts!! Bravo Michelle!” says Michael Douglas.

Michelle Yeoh is an internationally recognized Malaysian-born actress who rose to fame in 1990s Hong Kong action films before going on to shatter convention and star in a myriad of globally acclaimed blockbusters. In March 2022, she starred in Daniels’ mind-bending, critically acclaimed Everything Everywhere All At Once, which has since become A24’s highest grossing film worldwide.

She has appeared in more than 70 features and television series, with her filmography showcasing a collection of iconic roles, including Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 1 & 2, Rob Marshall’s Memoirs of a Geisha, Roger Spottiswoode’s James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, Danny Boyle’s Sunshine, and Jon Chu’s Crazy Rich Asians, the highest-grossing romantic comedy in the U.S. in the past 10 years. Greg Pak Returns To Sakaar In Planet Hulk: Worldbreaker

In 2006, writer Greg Pak along with artists Carlo Pagulayan and Aaron Lopresti crafted PLANET HULK, one of the most iconic stories to ever grace the pages of Incredible Hulk, and this November, Pak will return to this storyline in Planet Hulk: Worldbreaker.

This five-issue limited series will take place a thousand years into the future and present a shocking expansion and culmination of the mythos of Sakaar. Pak will be joined by visionary Devil’s Reign artist Manuel Garcia.

Considered a modern Marvel masterpiece, Planet Hulk told the rousing story of Hulk’s time on the alien planet Sakaar after being exiled from Earth by the Illuminati. The epic story arc had a defining impact on Hulk that’s still felt today and went on to inspire spinoffs and media adaptations. Now, the saga continues…

Documentary “The Youth Governor” Sets Release

Directed by Matthew and Jaron Halmy for Blum Television, documentary “The Youth Governor” will open in limited theaters and on VOD on Amazon and Apple TV on August 26.

The Youth Governor tells the story of the candidacy, campaign, and election of the 72nd California Youth Governor. In the halls of California’s Capitol, 4,000 teenagers run a fully functioning government complete with legislators, lobbyists, political party bosses, and elections.

Over the course of four months, three candidates emerge from a field of 40. On the campaign trail, in their homes, and with their peers watching their every word, these young candidates put together the unique mix of ambition, confidence, shamelessness, and pure motivation it takes to win.

Netflix’s “The Sandman” Season 1 Soundtrack Featuring Music By David Buckley Released

WaterTower Music has announced the release of The Sandman: Season 1 (Soundtrack From the Original Netflix Series) which features music by composer David Buckley (The Good Wife, The Gifted). This 27-track score is available now on all major digital platforms for digital purchase and streaming.

“The Sandman is an incredibly eclectic story spanning everything from other-worldly magic to deep trauma and horror, but is always told with real human feelings,” says Buckley.

The Sandman’s range of genres gave Buckley the opportunity to embrace a large palette for the score including full orchestra, choir, early music instruments, such as viola da gamba and baroque flutes, and some esoteric sounds. He combined historic classical music and instruments with modern electronic textures to bridge time within the music.

One of the most notable experimentations is that of Dream’s theme, using bells to portray his character’s ruling of the sleeping world, reminding the viewer of a midnight chime. The bells are sometimes warped or dissonant, mimicking the inconsistency and eclecticism of dreams. As an Endless, Dream’s theme is ubiquitous, being used throughout episodes regardless of his on-screen presence.

The emotional score switches from dark to dainty themes episode to episode while still remaining cohesive and homogenous. Buckley created sounds unique to every moment of the series, making the music feel alive and distinctive.

Greenwich Entertainment Sets Theatrical Release Of Documentary Feature “Hockeyland”

Greenwich Entertainment, a leading distributor of independent films, has acquired North American distribution rights to the critically-acclaimed documentary feature Hockeyland about rival high school hockey teams in Minnesota’s North Country, one of the breeding grounds for hockey greats who go onto to collegiate and professional play, including the National Hockey League (NHL).

Greenwich Entertainment has set a September 9 theatrical release for the film, starting in Minneapolis and other Midwest cities, before expanding in the U.S. and Canada. A digital release will follow in October.

Hockeyland is directed by Tommy Haines, produced by Tommy Haines, Andrew Sherburne, and JT Haines, and executive produced by Carson Kipfer. The film has played leading documentary film festivals including DOC NYC, Big Sky, Seattle, Milwaukee, RiverRun and more.

Joyner Lucas Announces “ADHD Tour” With Special Guest Symba

Today, two-time Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist and entrepreneur, Joyner Lucas, announced his “ADHD Tour,” a 12-city tour produced by Live Nation that kicks off on September 16th at Varsity Theater in Minneapolis.

The “ADHD Tour” will also include rising West Coast rapper Symba, who will open for Joyner during the headlining trek. The tour will make stops across the United States in Chicago, Austin, Los Angeles and more before wrapping up in Phoenix at The Van Buren on October 12th. 

The announcement comes after Joyner released the remix of his platinum-selling single “Isis” – which appeared on his acclaimed debut studio album, ADHD – that featured four independent artists that he selected via his platform, Tully.
