Stanley Nelson’s Soulful Doc “We Want The Funk!” To Stream on PBS and YouTube

we-want-the-funkDirected by Stanley Nelson and Nicole London, a new documentary explores the roots of funk.

Distinctly rooted in joy, funk music reflected a post-Civil Rights Movement sensibility. “We Want the Funk!” examines the symbiotic relationship between the explosion of funk music out of the Midwest and the political and racial dynamics in 1970s inner-city America.

A syncopated and star-studded voyage through the journey of funk music, the film delves into the genre’s influence on contemporary music, fashion, and freedom of expression as well as its role in the rise of hip-hop. At the heart of the film are the first-hand stories, recollections, and experiences of the people who created and defined along with additional perspectives from Questlove and Thomas DeFrantz.

The film also features archival interviews with musical icons, including James Brown, Elton John, David Bowie, and more.

“We Want The Funk!” is set to premiere on April 08, 2025.

Farmhand Kicks Off Final Showdown In Upcoming Story Arc Sprouting Next Month

farmhandPopular horror/satire series Farmhand—by Chew co-creator/artist extraordinaire, Rob Guillory—will kick off its highly anticipated finale story arc next month in Farmhand #21 from Image Comics.

This pulse-pounding denouement will see Monica Thorne in complete control of Freetown as the surviving Jenkins family members prepare for their last stand.

“Farmhand’s been a labor of love from its inception. And I’ve been hard at work making sure this final arc gives readers the most satisfying payoff to this long-running story possible. These are by far the bloodiest, most intense six issues I’ve ever done, and I can’t wait for folks to see how it ends.”

The Farmhand series follows Jedidiah Jenkins, a simple farmer. But his cash crop isn’t corn or soy. He grows fast-healing, highly-customizable human organs. For years, Jed’s organic transplants have brought healing to many, but deep in the soil of the Jenkins Family Farm something sinister has taken root. Today this dark seed will begin to sprout, and the Jenkins family will be the first to taste its bitter fruit.

Final Trailer for G20: Starring Viola Davis

G20Amazon Prime Video has released the final trailer for director Patricia Riggen’s action drama “G20“, ahead of its arrival on the streamer this coming Thursday.

The film features Viola Davis as the president of the United States.

In the film, after the G20 Summit is overtaken by terrorists, President Danielle Sutton (Viola Davis ) must bring all her statecraft and military experience to defend her family and her fellow leaders.

Also in the film are Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Antony Starr, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, Clark Gregg, Christopher Farrar.

“G20” will premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

M3GAN 2.0 Debuts First Trailer at CinemaCon

megan2New footage has been released for M3GAN 2.0, the Blumhouse movie sequel to the the 2023 smash hit sci-fi horror.

Director Gerard Johnstone returns, along with producers James Wan, Jason Blum, and star Allison Williams; M3GAN 2.0 picks up two years after the first film’s bloodbath.

In the sequel, after the underlying tech for M3GAN is stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, M3GAN’s creator Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal.

The film stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Jenna Davis, Amie Donald, Ivanna Sakhno, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, Jemaine Clement.

A spinoff movie, titled “Soulm8te,” is also set to release Jan. 2, 2026, from Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, which is set to star “Evil Dead Rise” star Lily Sullivan as its lead.

Series creator Josh Blaylock returns for Interior Art, joined by Brian Rogers, with covers by Pop Mhan, Tim Seeley, and More

Mercy Sparx is back-and she’s dragging demons from her past, both literal and emotional, into the spotlight in the brand-new, three-part miniseries Mercy Sparx: Daddy Issues, launching in comic book shops everywhere this July. Exclusive early editions and variants will debut on Kickstarter this month.

Series creator and writer Josh Blaylock returns for his second stint on interior art, with Brian Rogers (Trailer Park Boys) joining for finishes. Greg & Fake (Santos Sisters) return for colors, along with Jenn Chun, and Sarah Mitrache (Hack/Slash: Back to School), with lettering by Shawn DePasquale.

The story dives headfirst into Mercy’s tangled history with the various father figures who shaped her life, and the messy, chaotic relationships and flings that followed. The series picks up directly after the events of No More Angels Left to Fall, after Mercy finally put the traumas caused by her nefarious mother to rest, and encountered her most significant “bounty” yet.

David Mamet’s New Feature Film “Henry Johnson” Sets Release

Henry-JohnsonStarting Friday May 9th, the film is set to open at the Aero Theatre in Los Angeles, as well as to rent on HenryJohnsonMovie.com. Additional theater listings is set to follow.

The film star Evan Jonigkeit, Shia LaBeouf, Chris Bauer, Dominic Hoffman. The film adaptation is Pulitzer Prize winner’s first movie in a decade.

Written and Directed by Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet, HENRY JOHNSON follows the title character (Jonigkeit) as he navigates his search for a moral center, after an act of compassion upends his life. Looking to authority figures he encounters along the way — including his eventual cellmate, Gene (LaBeouf) — Henry’s journey leads him down a road of manipulation and ethical uncertainty. The film is an exploration of power, justice and the consequences of letting others choose your path for you.

David Mamet is an award-winning playwright, filmmaker and author. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Glengarry Glen Ross — currently on Broadway in a revival starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr — as well as Academy Award nominations for his screenplays of Wag the Dog and The Verdict. His feature film directorial credits include The Spanish Prisoner, Oleanna, House of Games, State and Main, Heist, Spartan, The Winslow Boy, Redbelt and Phil Spector.

New Trailer for KARATE KID: LEGENDS revealed at CinemaCon

“Ralph, I’ve been doing your chores all week,” Ben Wang to Ralph Macchio at the CinemaCon stage. Macchio and Wang stars in the upcoming “Karate Kid: Legends.”

In the film, after a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition – but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.

The official trailer was released in December after a first look at New York Comic Con.

The film stars Ben Wang, Ralph Macchio, Jackie Chan, Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff. It is scheduled to be released on May 30, 2025 by Sony Pictures Releasing.

“Call of the Void” Trailer And Release Date

call-of-the-voidGravitas Ventures will release CALL OF THE VOID on digital platforms on April 15, 2025. The film premiered at the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival.

CALL OF THE VOID is a folk horror tale featuring songs from the Appalachian folk songbook performed live by the cast. Horror fans will be treated to a thrill both new and unexpected while drawing from the works of cosmic horror author, H.P. Lovecraft.

The film stars Caitlin Carver (Chicago Fire, I Tonya, Netflix’s Dear White People), Mina Sundwall (Netflix’s Lost In Space, Jesus Revolution), Christian Antidormi (Starz’s Spartacus, Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer), and Ethan Herisse (Nickel Boys, When They See Us).

It was written and directed by James B. Cox (Hacked, Grey Matter, based on a short story by Stephen King).

Here’s the film’s synopsis:
After the tragic death of her brother, Moray retreats to a remote mountain cabin to try and escape her work, her family, and her old life. However, her quiet retreat is quickly diverted by a college band moving into the unit next door and a suspicious professor studying a local phenomenon involving a mysterious hum. She discovers that the Hum is a gateway to something otherworldly, unnameable, and once heard–there is no return. The Hum is a sonic experience that asks the question: How can you escape your own senses?

Theatrical Premiere Release Date for Sean McNamara’s Holocaust Drama Bau, Artist at War

Holocaust-Drama-Bau-Artist-at-WarBau, Artist at War, the powerful historical drama directed by Sean McNamara (Reagan, Soul Surfer), will have its theatrical release by ShowBiz Direct in the U.S. and Canada on September 26, 2025. The film, which stars Hirsch as real-life Holocaust survivor and artist Joseph Bau, is distributed by ShowBiz Direct and Republic Pictures.

The story of creativity, survival, and love based on Joseph Bau’s memoir, Bau, Artist at War tells the inspirational true story of how Bau used his creativity and skills as a forger to help fellow prisoners survive the horrors of Nazi concentration camps. Despite facing unimaginable adversity, he finds hope and love with fellow prisoner Rebecca (Inbar Lavi).

“This is a story the world needs to see, to remind us of the power of hope, even in the darkest times,” says McNamara. “It’s a powerful testament to resilience, and I can’t wait for audiences to finally see Joseph Bau’s incredible life story on the big screen.”
