Twelve killers entered Oak Valley on Halloween night. Only one survived. Now the rest are getting their final send-off.
Image Comics and James Tynion IV’s Tiny Onion are releasing Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead, an 80-page anthology revealing the origin stories of the grisly assassins from last year’s breakout hit series. The extra-length one-shot drops January 13, 2027.
“The fun part of Exquisite Corpses was coming up with all these gruesome killers and then murdering them in terrible, terrible ways,” Tynion said. “But the hard part was saying goodbye to them so quickly. This anthology is our last chance to celebrate the maniacs and mercenaries of Season One before we introduce the world to a whole new cast of their favorite serial killers.”
The book features stories from Tynion and co-creator Michael Walsh, plus Jordie Bellaire, Marguerite Bennett, Patrick Horvath, Alyssa Wong, Steve Orlando, Josh Trujillo, Soo Lee, Victor Lavalle, and Losty. Artists include David Lafuente, Piotr Kowalski, Lauren Knight, Claire Roe, Alexandre Tefenkgi, Lisandro Estherren, Brian Level, Francesca Ciregia, and Ryan Quackenbush.
Readers will learn about the Congregation’s unholy mission, the spark behind Layla Blaze’s scars, Lady Carolina’s first hunt, and more. The book also includes a sneak peek at killers from the upcoming Season 2.
A polybagged variant will include a collectible card from Exquisite Corpses: The Game.
Exquisite Corpses was 2025’s biggest original comic launch. Over 700,000 issues sold, a film adaptation is in development, and the Kickstarter game raised 400% of its goal.
For horror fans who can’t let these killers die just yet, Book of the Dead is one last ride.
