Who is the other Miles Morales? Your New Look at Marvel Comics’ SPIDER-MEN II #1

New York, NY—June 16, 2017 — THIS IS IT, TRUE BELIEVERS. The moment five years in the making is finally here. The first time Peter Parker and Miles Morales met ended with a question — WHO IS THE MILES MORALES OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE? Now that the Miles you know and love is with Peter in the Marvel Universe, you’re finally going to get that answer to who the OTHER Miles Morales is. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as Brian Michael Bendis (Defenders, Spider-Man) and Sara Pichelli (Spider-Man) bring you the next heart-stopping adventure for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales with Marvel Comics’ SPIDER-MEN II.

Speaking with Marvel.com, Bendis spoke towards Peter and Miles both holding onto the Spider-Man title in the Marvel Universe, “One of my favorite things about a shared universe, is that on top of what you’re writing for the characters, other things are happening to the characters, like now Miles is in the new universe, and now he’s a part of the Champions, and half of [Civil War II] was people fighting over his head, so things have changed in his life, and his relationship to the Marvel Universe is completely different than it was in the first series and that’s exciting.”

Disney Honors Jack Kirby With A Disney Legends Award At This Year’s D23 Expo

Founding Father of the Marvel Universe is one of the First Honorees from Marvel

New York, NY—June 16, 2017— This July, Jack Kirby will be honored for his remarkable creative achievements as a Disney Legend in a ceremony to be held at D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California. Hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, the Disney Legends Award ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 14, in Hall D23 during D23 Expo 2017.

JACK KIRBY first grabbed our attention in the spring of 1941 with Captain America, a character he created with Joe Simon. Kirby then followed this debut with a prolific output of comic books in the Western, Romance, and Monster genres–all a prelude to his defining work helping to create the foundations of the Marvel Universe. For the next decade, Kirby and co-creator Stan Lee would introduce a mind-boggling array of new characters and teams — including the Avengers, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, Ant-Man, Wasp, Black Panther, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the Inhumans. Kirby was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame’s 1987 inaugural class and continued creating comics throughout the ’90s before passing away in 1994.

Other honorees of this year’s Legends Award are Carrie Fisher, Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi, Manuel Gonzales, Mark Hamill, Stan Lee, Garry Marshall, Julie Taymor, and Oprah Winfrey.

Danny Elfman To Compose ‘Justice League’ Score

By Armando

Warner Bros. Pictures

Following Zack Snyder’s departure from his directorial duties in May 2017 and Joss Whedon’s involvement to the project, Justice League is getting another radical reorg: according to a report from Hollywood Reporter, Danny Elfman is set to score this November’s Justice League.

With Elfman previously having worked with Whedon on ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, this news reinforce just how important the relationship and chemistry of a director and composer in creating the final product.

He is certainly not new to the genre, more specifically to DC Comics, having previously scored ‘Batman’ (1989) where he won a Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, as well as it’s sequel Batman Returns (1992). Elfman is a long-time collaborator of Tim Burton. In addition to Batman, they also worked together in Beetlejuice (1987), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Planet of the Apes (2001) among others.

Among his other high-profile work include Mission: Impossible (1995), Men in Black (1997), Spider-Man (2002), and most recently this year in Fifty Shades Darker and The Circle.

This makeover means Elfman is replacing Antonius Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL), who himself replaced Hans Zimmer. Holkenborg was co-composer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” along with Zimmer, who stated last year that he is done composing for superhero films.

“As my mentor Hans Zimmer told me: you haven’t made it in Hollywood as a composer until you get replaced on a project,” said Holkenborg on a recent Twitter post. “So I guess I finally graduated this week. It pains me to leave the project, but a big thanks to Zack for asking me to be part of his vision, and I wish Danny, Joss, and Warner Bros. all the best with Justice League.”

This would be an interesting and significant shift of DCEU’s score in general, the tone of which began with Man of Steel and continued with Batman V Superman. Re-shoots and additional photography of Justice League is currently underway.

Justice League is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017.

Marvel Comics and Dustin Bates of Starset Debut an Original Graphic Novel, THE PROX TRANSMISSIONS

New York, NY—June 15, 2017— Marvel Comics is proud to announce a unique collaboration with Dustin Bates, lead singer and founder of the multi-media, modern rock band Starset, along with fan-favorite writer, Peter David (Ben Reilly: Scarlett Spider, Spider-Verse) for an all-new original 88-page graphic novel, THE PROX TRANSMISSIONS.

Inspired by the likes of Nikola Tesla and Carl Sagan, Starset’s albums, along with videos, websites, novels and one-of-a-kind live performances, were created as part of the over-arching concept, The Starset Society. Danai Gurira Joins “Avengers: Infinity War”

By Creative Media Times

Danai Gurira – aiphotoimaging.com

Danai Gurira must have made a really good impression on Marvel Studios. Gurira, who plays Okoye in Black Panther, will be joining the The Avengers team in the sequel “Avengers: Infinity War”, Deadline reports.

We don’t know the extent Gurira’s Okoye part will be in Infinity War yet, but judging from what we have seen of her in “Black Panther” trailer, plus the fact that Gurira has been slaying a ton of zombies on the small screen as Michonne on AMC television horror drama series The Walking Dead, we already know Gurira’s fighting skills are going to be pretty busy.

A follow-up to 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, Infinity War is supposed to be the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther hits cinemas on February 16, 2018, while the nineteenth film installment in MCU is scheduled for release a few months later on May 4, 2018.

The Tony-nominated playwright of Eclipse will next be on the big screen on June 16 in the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez On Me” where she plays Tupac’s political activist mother Afeni Shakur.

Actors and Industry Pay Tribute To Richard Donner

By Creative Media Times

Richard Donner

Richard Donner is greatly responsible for inspiring modern superhero movies with the success of Superman in 1978, and nearly a decade later for the buddy cop formula with Lethal Weapon. Both went on to become hugely successful film franchises, and together with classics The Goonies, The Omen, Maverick, Scrooged and a few others, Donner helped the development of Hollywood blockbuster industry.

Last Wednesday, it was film industry’s turn to honor the director as The Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences held the special ceremony in Los Angeles to honor Donner for all of his work.

But even with success, it was his kindness and generosity that people most remember. “There’s a true humility about the man; he refers to himself as a traffic cop, but he’s a f**ng genius,” says Mel Gibson, who played Martin Riggs in the Lethal Weapon series. “He has a voice that gets the attention of people getting on the bus two blocks away,” said John Savage (Inside Moves).

Also present during the tribute were DC Films president Geoff Johns and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, sharing the stage and retelling how they got their start in Hollywood working for Donner. “Dick and his wife Lauren gave me my first unpaid job in Hollywood, my first part-time in Hollywood, my first full time job in Hollywood, and my first producing credit, of which is the only reason I’m standing here,” Feige said, also calling Superman: The movie “the archetype of the perfect superhero film origin story.”

TV’s Batman Adam West, Dies at 88

By AI Creative Media

Adam West as Batman. ABC Television

Adam West, iconic actor who starred in the popular “Batman” TV show in the 1960s, died Friday night Jun 9 in Los Angeles. He was 88. According to Variety, the actor “died after a short battle with leukemia.”

“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero,” his family said in a statement.

Although West’s career spanned seven decades, it was the Batman role that made him a household name, a role that is both a blessing and a curse as he fell victim to being typecast long after the show ended. The campy superhero show ran from 1966 to 1968 on BC, while a feature-length film version was released in 1966.

He would later often reprise his Batman or Bruce Wayne role in various animated tv shows such as The New Adventures of Batman, Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show, The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians and for the tv special Legends of the Superheroes.

In 2012, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located in front of the Guinness Museum in Hollywood, California.

West is survived by his wife of 46 years Marcelle Lear. They had four children together, two from previous marriage to Ngahra Frisbie.

His family released the following statement: Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He will be missed.

Get Ready to Run this Fall with Marvel Comics’ RUNAWAYS by Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka

Marvel Comics’ Runaways

New York, NY—June 2, 2017— They were just a normal group of teenagers, linked only by their wealthy parents’ annual business meeting…until a chance discovery revealed the shocking truth: their parents were secretly Super Villains. This discovery led these kids to run away and put them at odds with the people who raised them! Their parents are gone and the team is scattered across the Marvel Universe. This September, get ready to run again with Marvel’s favorite teen Super Heroes, Nico, Chase, Karolina, and Molly for an all-new comic book series, RUNAWAYS by award-winning author, Rainbow Rowell (Eleanor & Park, Carry On) and Kris Anka (All-New X-Men, Star-Lord).

“The Runaways are down on their luck at the beginning of this story,” said series writer Rainbow Rowell. “I mean, a fair number of them are missing or dead… And the ones who are still standing feel lost. After their parents died in the original series, all they had was each other. What do they have now? Who are they on their own? This story brings the gang back together, but – in true RUNAWAYS fashion – probably not the way you’d expect.”
