Fun.-tastic! ‘We Are Young’ Tops Hot 100

Fun. becomes the first rock band in more than a decade to send a debut Billboard Hot 100 hit to No. 1, as “We Are Young,” featuring Janelle Monae, ascends 3-1.

The song spends a third week atop the Digital Songs chart with 302,000 downloads sold (up 19%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. The track claims the Hot 100’s top Airplay Gainer award, as it bounds 61-41 in its second week on Radio Songs (30 million, up 60%, according to Nielsen BDS). “Young” rises 3-2 on the Alternative Songs radio airplay chart and roars in as the top debut on Pop Songs (No. 24) and Adult Pop Songs (No. 33).

Katy Perry’s ‘Part of Me’ Debuts Atop Hot 100
Adele, Whitney Houston, Nicki Minaj & Chris Brown Add to Top 10

Katy Perry’s “Part of Me” rockets in at the Billboard Hot 100 summit, while Adele, the late Whitney Houston, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown all make notable news in the chart’s top 10.

Following her appearance at the 54th Grammy Awards on Feb. 12, Perry, who performed “Part” in a medley with her former No. 1 “E.T.,” engineers just the 20th No. 1 entrance in the Hot 100’s 53-year history. Lady Gaga had last stormed in at the chart’s top spot almost a year ago (Feb. 26, 2011) with “Born This Way,” which also benefitted from Grammys exposure last year; “Born” reached retail and radio the Friday before last year’s event, at which Gaga sang it.

US Weekend Boxoffice top 10 (Feb. 17-19, 2012)

Safe House won the second round of boxoffice competition this weekend against The Vow, this time coming on top in a very close race over the first three days of Presidents Day Weekend. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opened at no.3, while Journey 2: The Mysterious Island continues its surprisingly strong run at no.4. Official numbers for the 4-day weekend will be released on Tuesday.
