The superhero ensemble, which began its international release on Wednesday, brought in $350 in North America which brings its global total to $1.2 billion total after only five days in release. That makes it the fastest film to break the $1 billion milestone.
Endgame’s domestic weekend opening handily beats previous record holder “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which opened to nearly $250 million back in 2015.
In just a single weekend, the film instantly shot into the top 20 highest grossing films of all time, coming in at number 18th. These boxoffice figures also exceeded pre-release domestic boxoffice expectations, which ranged from $250 million to $300 million.
This also means Marvel now owns the two top global releases in history, following last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, also directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
The officially kicks-off summer blockbuster season, which will see the releases of high-profile films such as “Detective Pikachu”, “Toy Story 4,” “Men in Black International”, and “The Lion King”.
Stephen King’s 1975 horror novel is said to be getting a big screen treatment, with James Wan and Gary Dauberman collaborating on the project.
