“Apollo 11” Trailer Released

By Creative Media Times

Neon

Neon has released stunning new trailer on Monday for “Apollo 11,” giving us a glimpse of the scope and enormity of first moon landing mission.

Directed by Todd Douglas Miller, the 93-minute documentary was screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been receiving some great reviews.

Billed as a “cinematic space event film fifty years in the making,” the stunning new documentary features never-before-seen archival footage and audio of the historic event.

This would be the second film that reminds the world of that moment in 1969 when American astronaut and aeronautical engineer Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon. Last October, Universal Pictures released the Damien Chazelle directed epic film “First Man”.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of that event. Watch the first trailer for Apollo 11. A release date has yet to be announced.

Review: “I Am the Night” Delves Into The Black Dahlia Mystery

By Armando Inquig

TNT

Thanks to numerous stories, books, and a couple of films about the unsolved 1947 murder of aspiring actress Elizabeth Short, sensationalized by the media as the “Black Dahlia,” the decades-old gruesome murder continues to capture people’s imagination.

Patty Jenkins is the latest to revisit the mystery with “I Am the Night,” a six-episode limited series that premiered its pilot episode on TNT on Monday, with the subsequent episodes set to air on the following Mondays.

The series features a wide-eyed 16-year-old schoolgirl, Fauna Hodel (played by India Eisley), grappling with her mixed-race identity. Struggling with her relationship with her alcoholic adoptive mother, she decides to travel to Los Angeles in search of her elusive birth mother.

Chris Pine portrays Jay Singletary, a disgraced, drug-addicted journalist haunted by his past, at the brink of despair, whose life changes after an anonymous phone call.

The narrative took its time establishing Jay’s character and Fauna’s biracial background, depicting the rough racial and social relations of the 60s at school and in their neighborhood. However, when the two characters finally meet, the story propels forward, revolving around the captivating mysteries of the Black Dahlia murder.

Pine, the major draw of the show, always delivers an intense performance. When his character is dragged out of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and beaten, he reacts with a manic laughter. His natural talent and effective acting anchor the series throughout.

Credit to Jenkins for her solid and imaginative direction, which offers viewers a captivating glimpse of that era in Los Angeles. She returns to a medium that permits a deeper exploration of the narrative across multiple episodes.

Interestingly, Jenkins has previously transitioned to TV after helming a successful film. In 2004, she directed an episode of “Arrested Development” (“The One Where They Build a House”) during its second season, right after her award-winning film “Monster” established her in Hollywood.

The successful collaboration between Pine and Jenkins in the acclaimed superhero blockbuster “Wonder Woman” is evident here as well, showcasing their undeniable chemistry.

Jenkins directed the pilot and the second episodes, while Victoria Mahoney helmed the third and fourth. The series was penned by Jenkins’ husband, Sam Sheridan.

Aquaman Now Officially DC’s Highest Grossing Film Worldwide

By Creative Media Times

Warner Bros. Pictures
DC Entertainment

The King of Atlantis is now DC’s king of the box-office worldwide. The film made $7.2 million at the boxoffice this weekend, which brings its global boxoffice to $1.09 billion.

That number beats the $1.085 billion gross of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, thereby becoming the top grossing DC superhero film adaptation ever.

The Jason Momoa-starrer swims next into Japan on February 8, its final market. Though not traditionally a big market for DC films, Japan should help pushed the film closer to $1.13 billion total when all is said and done.

Aquaman is the third comic-book adaptation to cross the $1 billion mark, following the massively successful Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther.

Directed by James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7), the film’s screenplay was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall. Willem Dafoe, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman co-star in film.

Sneak Peek Of Margot Robbie As Harley Quinn In “Birds of Prey”

By Creative Media Times

Margot Robbie will soon be back as Harley Quinn in the upcoming film “Birds of Prey,” and on Monday, the actress gave fans a first look at her in character costume. “Miss me?,” Robbie posted on Instagram together with a selfie.

Robbie has played a diverse set of characters lately, ranging from this year’s “Queen Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots”, as disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” the previous year, and as actress Sharon Tate in next year’s Quentin Tarantino directed crime drama ensemble “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

But her Harley Quinn portrayal in the DC Comics’ 2016 supervillain film Suicide Squad is undoubtedly one of the biggest fan favorite. Thought part of an ensemble cast, her character is one of the film’s highlights, helping the film reach lofty box office heights ($746.8 million) in spite of the film’s lukewarm critical reception.

Robbie’s Harley Quinn is set to team with a trio of supervillains in ‘Prey’, joining forces with Dinah Laurel Lance / Black Canary, Helena Bertinelli / Huntress, Cassandra Cain and Renee Montoya.

The original Birds of Prey comics series was conceived by Jordan B. Gorfinkel and has seen its setting move around various locations, from Batman’s popularly known residence Gotham City, then in Superman’s Metropolis and eventually settling in 2008 in “Platinum Flats” in California. Originally a partnership between Dinah Lance and Barbara Gordon, the team has since expanded to include other DC superheroines.

Also in the film are co-stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ella Jay Basco, and Ewan McGregor. Birds of Prey is currently set for release next year, February 7, 2020.

Sony Sets “Ghostbusters” Sequel To July 2020

By Creative Media Times

Sony

Sony Pictures has just announced that there will be a Ghostbusters sequel, and have in fact dated its release: July 10th of 2020.

That will be the same month as the studio’s own the Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, is set to be released, solidifying Sony Pictures’ grip on the summer month of July 2020. Morbius is based on the character from Marvel Comics’ gritty anti-hero Morbius the Living Vampire and is set to feature Jared Leto portraying the character.

The Ghostbusters sequel release date announcement confirms the film is moving forward. This comes after the studio announced earlier this month that Jason Reitman will be directed the sequel. Fans of the original should remember that it was Jason’s father, Ivan Reitman who was responsible for bringing the original films to the big screen, directing both Ghostbusters (1984) and its sequel Ghostbusters II (1989).

Though not much info about the upcoming film has been release, nor a cast has been announced, Jason Reitman posted a teaser trailer on his Twitter account. “Everybody can relax, I found the car. #GB20,” Reitman posted.

Jason Reitman recently helmed this year’s Charlize Theron starrer “Tully.” He also directed acclaimed boxoffice hits Juno (2007) and Up in the Air (2009).

Efron As Bundy In “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile”

By Creative Media Times

Voltage Pictures

The film recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where the film’s lead Zac Efron is receiving solid reviews for his portrayal of serial killer Ted Bundy.

The thriller biopic continues Efron’s transition from Disney star to leading man roles following last year’s highly successful “The Greatest Showman.”

Lily Collins co-stars as Bundy’s girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, whose perspective is the basis of the film’s story. The two had a troubled turbulent six-year relationship wherein Elizabeth struggled to accept Bundy’s true psychopath nature.

The film’s title does warn us: the trailer is violent and, well, vile, an appropriate treatment given the subject matter but may surprise those unfamiliar with the character and its premise.

Here we see the beginnings of the relationship and the couple’s initial meeting at a bar, then to Bundy’s arrest and then eventually to Elizabeth’s trepidation that there is something diabolical underneath Bundy’s clean cut all-american looks.

There is also plenty of footage of the trial which has led to the Bundy’s infamy, all seemingly mocking the media and public obsession over Bundy’s unlikely killer. “I’m more popular than Disney World,” Bundy says.

Even the casting of Efron is an interesting choice. Whether people are able to get into his character recalls those who bought into Bundy’s image in the 70s and how his charismatic facade plays into the equation.

There is a lot of great talents in “Extremely Wicked,” among them John Malkovich as judge Edward Cowart, Kaya Scodelario as Carole Ann Boone, Haley Joel Osment as Jerry Thompson and Jim Parsons as Larry Simpson.

The film is directed by Emmy-winner Joe Berlinger, whom with Bruce Sinofsky co-helmed the stunning film series “Paradise Lost” which began in 1996, followed by sequels Paradise Lost 2: Revelations in 2000, and Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory in 2011.

Christopher Nolan’s Next Film Set For July 2020 Release

By Creative Media Times

Youtube

Nolan fans now have a new film to look forward to. The Oscar nominated filmmaker is set for release on IMAX on July 17, 2020, per Hollywood Reporter published today.

It is no surprise that the studio has taken July as a perfect time to release the English auteur’s epic blockbusters. During the past few years, his name has been synonymous to hugely ambitious narrative scope and visual spectacle.

In fact, most of his most recent movies such as The Dark Knight, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and were all July releases and received both critical and commercial successes.

His last film, the World War II epic blockbuster “Dunkirk”, was also released in July of 2017. That film grossed $520 million at the boxoffice and received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and his first Best Director nomination.

In total, Nolan’s movies grossed nearly US $5 billion worldwide and received 34 Oscar nominations, ten of which received the winning trophies.

Not much has been revealed about the upcoming Warner Bros. “event film,” but given his industry stature it is sure to attract plenty of major talents. We are sure to follow the development of this film and will publish more information when they are released.

A new trailer for Amazon Video upcoming superhero tv series “The Boys” has hit the web and its the right combo of weird and awesome.

Developed by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen, “The Boys” is an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson which was originally published in 2006 by DC Comics imprint WildStorm and then later picked up by Dynamite Entertainment.

The trailer is violent and offbeat as one might expect from Ennis, who also serves as one of the executive producers.

There is plenty of talent involved in this, including Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Elisabeth Shue as Madelyn Stillwell, Erin Moriarty as Annie January / Starlight, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Jessie Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Karen Fukuhara as Female and Tomer Kapon as Frenchie.

See official synopsis below:

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, The Boys centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty. THE BOYS is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes. THE BOYS is scheduled for a 2019 release.
