Arthouse Thriller Sweet Relief Opens June 27 in Theaters and on VOD

sweet-reliefThe indie thriller Sweet Relief, written and directed by emerging filmmaker Nick Verdi, will open for a one-week theatrical run at Laemmle Encino Town Center on June 27. The film will also be available the same day on premium VOD through Eventive.

Set in a small New England town, Sweet Relief follows two intertwining storylines: one involving teens playing an online “murder challenge” game as a joke, and another focused on a disaffected millennial couple whose boredom leads them down a dangerous path. As events spiral, the film builds toward a disturbing and unexpected climax.

The ensemble cast includes Alisa Leigh, B.R. Yeager, Adam Michael Kozack, Lucie Rosenfeld, Jocelyn Lopez, and Paul Lazar in a notable turn as Mr. McDaniel. The film was executive produced by Tribeca Award-winner Elliot Gipson (Charliebird), who launched Art Brut Films in 2023. Sweet Relief marks the label’s first feature release.

The 87-minute arthouse thriller has screened at several festivals, including the Chattanooga Film Festival, Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival, and Another Hole in the Head.

A wider VOD rollout is planned later in the year.

Psychological Horror “Bury Me When I’m Dead” Hits VOD

bury-me-when-im-deadBury Me When I’m Dead, a psychological supernatural thriller from writer-director Seabold Krebs, is now available on digital and VOD. The film stars Devon Terrell, Charlotte Hope, and Makenzie Leigh.

The story follows Henry, a man unraveling after breaking a deathbed promise to his wife, Catherine. Diagnosed with brain cancer, Catherine had asked to be buried in a remote forest near her childhood home. But under pressure from her powerful father—and haunted by guilt over an affair with her friend Rebecca—Henry returns her body to the city instead.

What follows is a descent into paranoia, as strange events lead Henry to believe Catherine’s ghost is back for revenge. As grief and fear blur the line between reality and delusion, Henry becomes trapped in a spiral of supernatural reckoning.

Produced by Nicholas Payne Santos and Amanda Freeman, and executive produced by Rob Coterill, the film is a Plenty Good and Slow Peach production in association with 88/90 Productions. Bury Me When I’m Dead runs 90 minutes, is not yet rated, and is distributed by Vertical Entertainment.

Brendan Devane’s The Sound Hits Theaters and VOD June 27 — New Trailer and Poster Released

the-soundA new teaser trailer and official U.S. poster have been released for The Sound, an upcoming thriller-horror-action film from writer-director Brendan Devane (The Canyonlands). The film will debut in U.S. theaters and on VOD nationwide on June 27.

Starring Marc Hills, Rachel Finninger, Nicholas Baroudi, and Jocelyn Hudon, alongside veteran actors William Fichtner and David Clennon, The Sound follows a team of elite climbers granted rare access to the Forbidden Wall—an ominous vertical expanse untouched for decades. As they ascend, the group encounters a sinister force tied to a doomed expedition led by the grandfather of climber Sean (Hills) over 60 years ago. What begins as a thrilling climb becomes a desperate fight for survival suspended hundreds of feet in the air.

With a runtime of 104 minutes and an R rating, The Sound blends high-altitude action with supernatural horror. The cast also features real-life climbing legends including Hazel Findlay, Brette Harrington, Adrian Ballinger, and Alex Honnold, adding authenticity to the film’s extreme setting.

The Sound is distributed by Blue Harbor Entertainment.

Festival Hit “Hood Witch” Sets Release In Theaters and VOD

hood-witchDirected by Saïd Belktibia, and co written by Saïd with Louis Penicaut, festival favorite starring Golshifteh Farahi (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Body of Lies, Extraction, Extraction 2), “Hood Witch” is set for release in select theaters and digital platforms on March 21, 2025.

“Trigger Happy” Quirky Comedic Satire Inspired by the 1950s

trigger-happy“Trigger Happy” stars Tyler Poelle (Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS: LA), Elsha Kim (The Garcias), Christina Kirkman (All That!, Ambitions), Matt Lowe (Hart of Dixie, Blood of Zeus), Chau Long (Interior Chinatown, PEN15), Zak Steiner (Euphoria, White Men Can’t Jump), Kevin Kreider (Bling Empire, The Traitors), Jacob Wysocki (Pitch Perfect, Unfriended, Terri), and Michele Selene Ang (13 Reasons Why). The film was directed by Tiffany Kim Stevens with a screenplay by Daniel Moya and produced by Kyle Herman.

“Trigger Happy” had its World Premiere at 2024 Cinequest where it won the Audience Award for Best Sci-Fi and Thriller. It also had a sold-out screening at the Newport Beach Film Festival 2024. The film has a running time of 86 minutes and will not be rated by the MPAA. Gravitas Ventures will release “Trigger Happy” on digital platforms on February 25, 2025.

In “Trigger Happy” George Decker has a dream of escaping his life and jetting to the Bahamas, but getting there will mean finding a way to rid himself of his wife, his crushing debts, his demeaning nine-to-six job, and an American culture that he feels has been specifically designed to torture him. Annie Decker, George’s wife, has a dream, too: booking the lead role in an infomercial for the “WOW! Sponge,” which is the most watched television program in America. As Annie’s acting career approaches new heights, George’s frustrations send him plummeting towards rock bottom, and the lives of these selfish, striving people intersect in ways that are hilarious, violent, and spectacularly unpredictable.

AMC Networks Heads To San Diego With A Star-Studded Panel Lineup For Five Series At This Year’s Comic-Con Int’l

amc-networksAMC Networks announced today its lineup of five star-studded series panels at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA, including the Walking Dead Universe series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol and The Walking Dead: Dead City; the Anne Rice Immortal Universe series Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire and Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches; and the final season of Snowpiercer.

Fans will get an exclusive first-look at trailers and teases from the highly anticipated second seasons of Dead City and Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, which premieres on Sunday, September 29 on AMC and AMC+. Attendees will be treated to an advance screening of the second episode of Snowpiercer’s final season, followed by a panel with cast and executive producers.

Additionally, the casts and creative teams from Interview with the Vampire, which was recently renewed for a third season, and Mayfair Witches, returning early next year, will discuss their respective series and debut new teases. AMC Networks will also present a special advanced screening of Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol on Friday, July 26 at the Rooftop Cinema Club Embarcadero.

Lionsgate’s “Crescent City” Sets Release In Theaters and Digital

crescent-cityLionsgate’s is set to release its upcoming crime thriller “Crescent City” on August 16 in theaters and on digital and on-demand.

The film is directed by RJ Collins and is from the script by Rich Ronat.

In the film, when a small southern town is terrorized by a relentless serial killer everyone becomes a suspect…including local authorities. As the body count rises and the dark mystery deepens, the chief detective becomes haunted by the horrors of his past. Academy Award Nominee’s Terrence Howard and Alec Baldwin star in a mesmerizing crime thriller about what it costs to catch a killer.

The film also stars Esai Morales and Nicky Whelan.

“Santa Isn’t Real” Release Date And Trailer Release

“Have Yourself A Scary Little Christmas” says the poster tagline for XYZ’s holiday horror film “Santa Isn’t Real”. A trailer for the film has also been recently released (below).

The film is written and directed by Zac Locke (The Voyeurs, Black Christmas), whose credits includes #Float, the 2018 sorority-killings shocker Black Christmas, the comedy-fantasy Country Gold, Vengeance, and The Voyeurs, starring Sydney Sweeney.

Staring Scarlett Sperduto, Dana Millican, Kaya Coleman, “Santa Isn’t Real” is set for release to digital and VOD on December 8, 2023.

Dark Sky Films Brings “8 Found Dead” to Theaters and VOD

Dark Sky Films is bringing the horror thriller “8 Found Dead” to theaters & VOD on September 8, 2023.

The film follows two couples as they head to a secluded desert hideaway for a weekend of relaxation and, unbeknownst to their friends, uneasy revelations.

When they arrive, each couple is met by the same eccentric couple, claiming to have booked the rental on the same day at the same time. As two local police officers are drawn into the evening’s strange and unpredictable events, depravity and derangement begin to consume everyone at the house. What begins as miscommunication soon descends in mayhem and bloody murder.
