Steven Spielberg is returning to familiar science-fiction territory with Disclosure Day, his next feature film, as Universal Pictures released the first teaser for the project this week. The film marks Spielberg’s first time directing since The Fabelmans and signals a renewed focus on extraterrestrial themes long associated with his work.

The teaser offers cryptic glimpses of a world on the brink of a global revelation, centering on characters played by Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor. Blunt appears as a television meteorologist who experiences a disturbing on-air episode, while O’Connor portrays a man determined to reveal proof of alien life to the public. The footage hints at unexplained phenomena, shifting identities, and the possibility that humanity is no longer alone.

Disclosure Day stars Blunt, O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. Spielberg directs from a screenplay by longtime collaborator David Koepp, based on an original story by Spielberg. The film is produced by Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger through Amblin Entertainment.

‘Tron: Ares’ Sets Digital Release for December 2, Physical Release in January

Disney’s Tron: Ares, the latest installment in the long-running sci-fi franchise, will arrive on digital platforms December 2, with a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and DVD release set for January 6, 2026.

Directed by Joachim Rønning, the film continues the world introduced in Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010), shifting the saga into a new conflict between AI programs and humanity. Jared Leto stars as Ares, a program sent into the real world on a high-stakes mission. The film features cinematography by Jeff Cronenweth and a score by Nine Inch Nails.

A limited-edition SteelBook and a three-film Tron collection, including Tron, Tron: Legacy, and Tron: Ares, will also be available for collectors.

Tron: Ares will be available digitally through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.

Marvel Comics has revealed Predator: Badlands #1, a one-shot prequel to the upcoming 20th Century Studios feature Predator: Badlands, directed by Dan Trachtenberg. The issue arrives November 12, just days after the film opens in theaters on November 7.

Written by Ethan Sacks (Star Wars: Bounty Hunters) with art by Elvin Ching in his Marvel debut, the comic is produced in close collaboration with Trachtenberg, who contributes a foreword. The story follows a young Yautja warrior named Dek on a mission to recover lost technology, leading to an encounter with an ancient threat.

The film stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi and introduces a new chapter of the Predator saga, set in the future on a remote planet. The prequel comic expands on that world, introducing key characters and events that connect directly to the movie.

Predator: Badlands #1 will feature multiple variant covers and is available for preorder now at comic shops.

Dark Sky Films and Yellow Veil Pictures will release Yannis Veslemes’ She Loved Blossoms More on VOD and digital platforms October 3.

The film, which premiered at Tribeca, follows three brothers who construct a time machine to bring their late mother back to life. Their efforts spiral out of control when their unstable father reappears, sending them into a surreal blend of past and present.

Described as a mix of science fiction, body horror, and dark comedy, the film stars Panos Papadopoulos, Julio Giorgos Katsis, Aris Balis, and Dominique Pinon.

‘Primitive War’ Sets VOD Release October 3 via Samuel Goldwyn Films

Samuel Goldwyn Films will release Primitive War on VOD platforms October 3, following a limited U.S. theatrical run in August that saw sold-out screenings and strong audience response.

Directed by Luke Sparke (Occupation), the dinosaur Vietnam War thriller stars Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), Nick Wechsler (The Boys), and Jeremy Piven (Entourage). Based on Ethan Pettus’ novel, the film follows a special forces unit sent on a search-and-rescue mission in 1968 Vietnam, only to discover a hidden valley crawling with prehistoric predators.

The project drew attention earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, where Sparke and the cast appeared in Ballroom 20 to preview footage for fans, a rare showcase for an independent production.

“Primitive War grossed over a million dollars in its limited U.S. release with a 90% audience Popcornmeter and positive reactions across social media,” SGF president Peter Goldwyn said in announcing the VOD rollout.

Primitive War will be available digitally across North America starting October 3.

James Cameron Unveils Trailer for ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ Introducing the Ash People

20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in James Cameron’s sci-fi franchise. The film is set to premiere exclusively in theaters on December 19, 2025.

The trailer introduces a new Na’vi clan known as the Mangkwan, or Ash People, a tribe that resides among volcanic terrain and appears to possess the ability to control fire. The Ash People, led by a new character named Varang (played by Oona Chaplin), are portrayed as hostile toward the film’s central family and seem to align with returning antagonist Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang).

The story continues the saga of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) as they seek new allies in the face of rising threats. Returning characters include Kiri (Sigourney Weaver), Spider (Jack Champion), and members of the aquatic Metkayina clan introduced in Avatar: The Way of Water. The footage shows the Sully family joining forces with the Metkayina to confront the growing power of the Ash People.

According to Cameron, the film explores “more challenging emotional territory” and expands the scope of Pandora by highlighting internal conflicts between Na’vi clans. The trailer ends with Varang confronting Kiri, saying, “Your goddess has no dominion here,” marking a shift toward darker ideological themes in the series.

Avatar: Fire and Ash follows the box office success of The Way of Water, which earned over $2.3 billion globally. The Avatar franchise has collectively grossed more than $5.2 billion to date.

Ballroom 20 was packed as director Luke Sparke hit the stage with Ryan Kwanten, Tricia Helfer, Nick Wechsler, and Jeremy Piven, joined by moderator Brandon Davis, to talk Primitive War, an independent Australian film that pits Vietnam War soldiers against dinosaurs. Seeing it on one of Comic-Con’s biggest stages was a rare sight for an indie.

Based on Ethan Pettus’ novel, the film follows Vulture Squad in 1968 as they’re sent to track down missing Green Berets. Instead, they find a remote valley crawling with prehistoric predators. It’s part war movie, part creature feature. “Primitive War” stomps into theaters in Australia and the U.S. on August 21.

Sparke, who also wrote and edited the film, said the story had to feel real before the dinosaurs showed up. The cast trained together and filmed in rough Australian locations to sell that grit. Kwanten admitted he picked a Southern accent before reading the script. Helfer got a laugh with a quick Battlestar Galactica reference, and Piven praised Sparke’s go-it-alone style, joking, “this movie costs $11, and it’s all his imagination.”

Fans got a look at new footage showing tense recon missions, chaotic firefights, and plenty of dinosaur chaos. It ended with the line: “This ain’t no walk in the park,” which got a knowing laugh from the crowd.

With millions of trailer views already, Primitive War is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about dino movie.

The cast and creators of Amazon Prime Video’s sci-fi comedy hit “Upload” took the the Comic-Con stage Friday, celebrating the show’s journey, and teasing what’s to come in its fourth and final season. The actors spoke about the show’s exploration of identity, technology, and human connection.

Moderated by The Office’s Brian Baumgartner, the panel featured creator Greg Daniels alongside stars Robbie Amell, Andy Allo, Allegra Edwards and Kevin Bigley, for a fast-paced, funny and at times emotional look back at the show’s exploration of identity, technology, and human connection.

A sneak peek from Season 4 was screened for fans, featuring Alicia (Zainab Johnson) in a hilariously unexpected new role.

One particularly memorable moment came when Amell, Allo, and Edwards rolled up sleeves to show off matching tattoos they got after filming wrapped.

The cast reflected on how their characters had changed, from Ingrid’s evolution beyond a high-maintenance villain to Luke’s surprising emotional depth beneath the comic relief.

Toward the end, Daniels revealed the cover of a new comic book titled Prefera, a digital-afterlife-themed story he’s working on with artist Tom Hoskisson and writer Izzy Kadish. The comic’s concept appears to echo Upload’s core ideas.

The most emotional moment came from Andy Allo, who paused to acknowledge how long the journey had been: “Seven years later, we’re finally here,” she said. “And we get to finish this with all of you.”

Upload Season 4 premieres August 25.

Amazon MGM Studios has released the first official trailer for Project Hail Mary, the upcoming sci-fi adventure starring Ryan Gosling as a lone astronaut tasked with saving humanity. Based on Andy Weir’s best-selling novel (The Martian), the film opens in theaters March 20, 2026.

Paramount Pictures has released the official trailer for The Running Man, a new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel, directed by Edgar Wright. The film stars Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a desperate father who enters a televised death game to earn money for his sick daughter.

Set in a near-future society, The Running Man follows contestants, called “Runners”, as they attempt to survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with the entire event broadcast to the public. Powell plays Richards, who becomes an unexpected fan favorite and a threat to the system. Josh Brolin plays the show’s producer, with Colman Domingo appearing as the host.

The cast also includes Michael Cera, Lee Pace, Katy O’Brian, Jayme Lawson, and William H. Macy. The film marks a new take on King’s story, distinct from the 1987 version starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
