Chris Evans In Talks To Play The Dentist In Little Shop Of Horrors Remake

By Creative Media Times

Chris Evans may be appearing in a musical adaptation soon. According to Hollywood Reporter, the Captain America actor is in talks to play the sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello, Audrey’s abusive boyfriend in a remake of “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Steve Martin once portrayed the nitrous oxide-addicted dentist in the 1986 Frank Oz directed horror comedy musical. That film was also an adaptation of the 1982 Off Broadway musical, which itself was based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film of the same name.

Scarlett Johansson is also in talks for the role of Audrey, per THR, while Taron Egerton is in talks to play Seymour, a nerdy florist who loves strange and interesting plants.

Last year, in an interview with the publication, Evans has stated his interest in doing a musical. “I want to do a musical so badly, man. Someone told me they’re [remaking] Little Shop of Horrors and I was like, ‘Oh, can I be down? Please? Can I be the dentist?’”

After playing Captain America in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s series of films and Human Torch in two “Fantastic Four” films, actor is definitely showing a lot interest less heroic roles lately. Last year, he played a more roguish character Hugh Ransom Drysdale in Rian Johnson’s critical and commercial hit “Knives Out.”

“Knives Out” Sequel Officially Happening

By Creative Media Times

Lionsgate

Private detective Benoit Blanc is set to return to the case for a sequel to last year’s boxoffice and critical hit “Knives Out”, this according to Deadline.

The article says the original’s director, Rian Johnson is already developing the sequel, which could potentially lead into a franchise for distributor Lionsgate. The studio has clearly been searching for its next major franchise after The Hunger Games ended, and it certainly looks like the Daniel Craig starrer fits the bill.

The star-studded film was a big success for the studio, grossing $300 million worldwide against a relatively modest budget of $40 million, becoming of the surprise hits last year.

The film went on to receive plenty of award nominations, including Golden Globe noms for a Musical or Comedy category, including Best Motion Picture, Best Actor for lead star Daniel Craig, and Best Actress for Ana de Armas.

Mel Gibson And Donald Glover To Return For Lethal Weapon 5

By Creative Media Times

WB

Producer Dan Lin has stated recently that Lethal Weapon 5 may in fact come to fruition, with original cast duo Mel Gibson and Danny Glover returning.

The statement came from Lin during a Hollywood Reporter roundtable discussion. “We’re trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie. And Dick Donner’s coming back. The original cast is coming back. And it’s just amazing. The story itself is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it’s about the script.”

Lin has produced “Lethal Weapon” TV series which run for three seasons on Fox, from 2016 to 2019, as well as films “The Two Popes” and “The Lego Movie.”

Gibson and Glover recently appeared in Daddy’s Home 2 and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, respectively.

Lethal Weapon 5 has been mentioned by series director Richard Donner a few times since the release of Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998. But in 2008, Donner expressed skepticism about the fifth film and the difficulties to get it made.

“I’m ready to do 5. It’s called Lethal Finale. It’s very dark. And we were all set to go and now Warner Bros. is doing their old-fashioned tricks,” Donner said during the interview. I wanted to end it on an emotional note, and I don’t think it’s gonna happen.” Donner has not directed a film since 2006’s “16 Blocks”.

There’s no official confirmation nor release date at the moment for Lethal Weapon 5.

The hugely successful buddy cop film series begun in 1987 featuring LAPD detectives Martin Riggs (played by Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (played by Glover). The series was created by screenwriter Shane Black who went on to direct Iron Man 3 and 2018’s The Predator.

Sam Mendes Wins 2020 DGA Award for “1917”

By Creative Media Times

Universal Pictures

The Directors Guild of America has weighed in on the race for best director, and giving 1917’s Sam Mendes the top honor for best feature film.

“I was fortunate enough to win this award two decades ago,” Mendes recalling his DGA Awards win for “American Beauty” in 2000. “And I think if I’m honest with myself, I didn’t feel ultimately like I really knew what I was doing. I feel a little bit more like I do now.”

The win is Mendes’ second major guild win of the awards season, making him a solid frontrunner for best director at next month’s Academy Awards. The DGA Awards are often a strong bellwether for the Academy Awards: since DGA started handing out trophies in 1949, the winner has only lost seven times at the Oscars. Additionally, Mendes won best director at the Golden Globes earlier this month.

Other nominees for feature film were Bong Joon Ho for Parasite, Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Taika Waititi for Jojo Rabbit.

Mondo and Death Waltz Recording Company Get “Freaked” With The Release of the Soundtrack on Vinyl

The vinyl release marks the first time the soundtrack for the cult film will be available in any format.

Death Waltz Recording Company brings both the score and the songs featured in Alex Winter and Tom Stern’s FREAKED. Available for the first time in any format, this 2XLP set features all new artwork from David Daniels. Inventor of Strata-Cut clay animation, Daniels did the original, mind-melting opening credit sequence for the film.

Disc One features songs from the movie from the likes of Butthole Surfers, Blind Idiot God, Henry Rollins, Axiom Funk, Iggy Pop, and more. Disc Two features Kevin Kiner’s original score, which so good that it could easily rival any number of Amblin’s films from the 1980s. Kiner’s music is incredibly nuanced, yet playful and bombastic (in a good way). It is a revelation to listen to the score independent of the film.

“FREAKED is a film that absolutely more people should know, a mix of The Three Stores and extreme body horror. It’s truly gonzo, funny as all hell, has an incredible cast, absolutely killer practical FX, and a soundtrack that features everyone from Henry Rollins to George Clinton along with Kevin Kiner’s beautiful orchestral score! We are thrilled to be releasing FREAKED for the first time on vinyl, three years in the making and worth every minute spent on it. If you haven’t seen FREAKED head to Amazon Prime right now where it is available and revel in this true Hollywood oddity,” said Spencer Hickman, Mondo & Death Waltz Recording Company Head of Music. FREAKED – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP is available for sale now at MondoTees.com
