Goyer Talks His “Man of Steel” Approach

By Garth Franklin

“Batman Begins” scribe David Goyer says his work on the script for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman reboot “Man of Steel” shares a lot of parallels with his work on the Chris Nolan Batman trilogy.

BadTaste reports that Goyer spoke at Rome Fiction Fest this week and said what he and producer Chris Nolan are doing with “Man of Steel” is to try and “bring the same naturalistic approach that we adopted for the Batman trilogy. We always had a naturalistic approach, we want our stories to be rooted in reality, like they could happen in the same world we live in.”

Comic-Con Anonymous: Are Fanboys Still Worth the Time and Money?

An insider asks if the geek crowd is still the best audience on which to blow marketing budgets.

Here we go again, another July, another parade of movie stars and executives heading south to peddle their wares at Comic-Con. But before we all spend crazy money jetting in talent, booking lavish parties and crafting just the right teaser-trailer package, think for a moment: Is the Comic-Con crowd still the best audience on which to be blowing our marketing budget? A decade after Hall H became Hollywood’s must-stop venue on the path to the multiplex, what if Comic-Con is sort of over?

After all, many would argue that the people who attend every year would see a genre movie or superhero tentpole no matter what. And the rest of the moviegoing public increasingly doesn’t care much whether the fanboys love or hate something. Three words: Cowboys & Aliens. Last year’s toast of the Con flatlined at the box office.

Justice League Announcement May Have Revealed New Aquaman Artist

By: Russ Burlingame
According to commenters on our Facebook page, Eddy Barrows has posted to his personal Facebook page that he is not taking over the art chores on Aquaman but merely did this cover. We were unable to confirm this, due to privacy settings on Barrows’s Facebook account.

Writer/artist Rob Liefeld, though, apparently has had some kind words for Barrows in the recent past. He tweeted, “Hope they stick with my suggestion from 3 months ago and it’s Eddy Barrows on more than just the Aquaman covers.”

Henry Cavill Speaks On The Pressure Of Playing The Man Of Steel

Andrew Dyce

Every little boy dreams of being him, and every grown man, well…some things never change. The chance to actually play Superman on film is an honor bestowed upon few in history, and Henry Cavill is aware of just how many doors can be opened should Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel reboot be a success.

Great opportunities come at the cost of great risks, and Cavill is all too aware of just how many people could be let down if his performance as the Man of Steel is found lacking. With all that pressure on his all-too-human shoulders, Cavill is focusing on his own concerns for the film, not those of comic book fandom.

‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ Passes $1.5B Mark

By NIKKI FINKE

Given that the Walt Disney Co announced its $4 billion purchase of Marvel three years ago almost to the day, that price tag looks like a bargain after Summer 2012. Because Marvel’s The Avengers in its 19th week of global release has passed $1.5 billion in worldwide theatrical grosses through Sunday. It’s now the world’s 3rd biggest movie of all time (not adjusted for inflation or higher ticket prices or 3D premium sales) behind only #2 Titanic (1997) and #1 Avatar (2009).

After Disney re-released the superheroes assembly actioner into 1,705 locations this weekend, it took in another $1.7M in North America. Its 4-day Labor Day holiday domestic take is estimated at $2.2M. That puts its domestic cume through Sunday at $619.5M and through Monday at $620.1M. Its estimated international gross through Sunday is $882.3M. For a new global cume through Sunday of $1,501.8M.

Superman, Wonder Woman lock lips as power couple

By MATT MOORE — Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA — Wonder Woman and Superman are an item, locking lips in a passionate embrace as the pair realize that there’s no one out there like them.

The couple’s kiss is the culmination of a dramatic story in “Justice League” No. 12, which marks the first full year since DC relaunched its stable of heroes with new stories, new costumes and revised origins.

DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee, who has drawn each issue of “Justice League” since its debut, called the canoodling in Wednesday’s issue not a stunt or an alternate reality smooch.

Exclusive: ‘Man of Steel’ teaser trailer gives first glimpse of new Superman

By Matt McDaniel

If you have two fathers — one biological and one adopted — and if they both happen to be Oscar winners, they should both get a chance to offer you advice. Even if you are Superman.

The first teaser for “Man of Steel,” next summer’s new big-screen version of the DC Comics hero, is in theaters with “The Dark Knight Rises.” Though in a unique turn, there are two versions of the trailer, depending on which theater you’re in. Both trailers have the same images, but with different voice-overs. One (seen above exclusive here on Yahoo! Movies) features Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, the Earthling who took in the boy who fell from the sky and named him Clark. The other is spoken by Russell Crowe, who plays Superman’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El. Both actors, by some twist of fate, have played Robin Hood.

Comic-Con 2012: ‘Man of Steel’ wows crowd with first look at new Superman

By Eric Pfeiffer

Director Zack Snyder and “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill promised to reinvent Superman for a modern generation.

“We certainly respect the history,” Snyder told 6,000 screaming fans at Saturday’s Comic Con panel. “But I kind of felt like Superman needed to be reintroduced to a new generation,” Snyder said. “He’s always been like this Boy Scout on top of a mountain and you can’t really touch him.”

“I just wanted to bring Superman into the modern world,” Cavill added. “Hopefully I bring a version that everyone can relate to.”

Snyder screened the first-ever footage from the film, which premiers next June.
