Netflix’s The Witcher First Trailer Revealed At SDCC 2019

By Armando

Netflix’s Henry Cavill starrer “The Witcher” took Comic-con by storm, wherein the series’ teaser trailer and a few clips were revealed to the Hall H audience.

photo: Armando (aiphotoimaging.com)

Joining Cavill were showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as well as co-stars Freya Allan (who plays Princess Ciri), and Anya Chalotra (who plays Yennefer of Vengerberg.)

Cavill of course plays Geralt, the titular Witcher in the short stories, novels and video games which takes place in medieval fantasy setting. He is one of the last witchers, a trained monster slayer for hire to slay deadly monstrous beasts.

“I’m a big gamer. I’ve played the games a lot,” Cavill said of what attracted him to play the character. He’s not your average hero. He’s a tough, real-world type person who won’t treat everyone differently. He’s a hero deep down.”

Cavill beat out more than 200 actors, but it took four months for him to land the part, adding that “it’s an absolute honour to bring this role to the screen.” The actor also did his own stunts in the show, and one of the exclusive clips did reveal a very physical and action packed scene.

“It’s really important for me that when you see Geralt on screen you know it’s Geralt,” Cavill said of his portrayal. “I spent all of my free time on set with a sword in my hand, getting used to the weight of the sword, day in and day out. I had three swords where I lived, and four at work. It was just practice, practice, practice.”

Another clip features Chalotra’s character of powerful sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg and the clip shows character’s dark backstory, showing her on a beach and then later burying a dead baby. The last clip featured Allen’s Ciri, lost in the woods.

“The Witcher” is based on a book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.

Cavill recently played a CIA assassin in this summer’s blockbuster hit Mission: Impossible – Fallout starting Tom Cruise. He also portrayed Superman in WB/DC Comics’, Batman v Superman and Justice League.

Netflix is set to debut “The Witcher” later this year. Check out the official trailer revealed at Comic-Con below:
