By Melgie Claire

Almost a year after the release of his eighth studio album, “The Life of Pablo”, Kanye West has purpose to celebrate. On Tuesday (April 4), Pablo reached platinum status, according to a statement from the Def Jam label rapper. A representative of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed the Billboard certification.

Although the label says that the project is the first streaming album to go platinum, Billboard reported that in April last year TLOP was briefly available for sale on Kanye west official website upon launch in February. TLOP – which entered into exclusive Tidal – got the number 1 on the Billboard 200, after 70 percent of the album’s debut earnings – 94,000 equivalent albums units – are due for streaming. (TLOP streamed over three billion times in the world). In addition, the Kanye West site sells digital downloads for $ 20.

Although it was difficult to know if the platinum status was part of the album’s sales in addition to streams, source says that the RIAA does not break down the components of certification. Amazon to stream Thursday night NFL games this year

By AI Creative Media

Amazon will be streaming Thursday night NFL games this year, beating Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for the streaming rights. Last year, NFL live-streamed 10 Thursday night games on Twitter for free. But this time, you will be needing an Amazon Prime subscribers to watch it, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“We’re focused on bringing our customers what they want to watch, Prime members want the NFL,” Amazon senior vice president Jeff Blackburn told the Wall Street Journal.

Setting Amazon apart is that their service already have many paying subscribers, who also get access to its library of movies and TV shows, many of which are originals. Facebook, Yahoo and Twitter are all free to their users, which means advertising is their primary source of revenue from the NFL live streaming.

According to Business Insider early this year, there are 65 million Prime members worldwide. The deal could potentially help Amazon not only retain that number but also improve on it with gains of new NFL subscribers.

It remains to been how much benefit a digital live stream will benefit NFL and, inversely how NFL will improve Amazon’s streaming platform. So, similar to Twitter last year, the one year deal for NFL’s move to Amazon seems like a good match for both sides to test the waters.

Batgirl is one of the most popular superheroes of all time. But even with the surge of superhero movies and extended cinematic universes she never got her own movie. Joss Whedon plans to remedy this. According to Variety , Whedon is “nearing a deal to write, direct and produce” a Batgirl movie as part of DC’s Extended Universe.

Whedon is best known for creating the TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as the highly successful The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron movies for Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is also the creator of the highly successful tv series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

As such, this is a big move for Whedon, the studio, and potentially DC’s cinematic universe, which has been on a path of darker superhero adaptations since Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Last year, Whedon explained his search of new challenges after working on Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. for years.

This will mark the the second female-led superhero film from DC after Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman’, which opens this summer June 2. There is not a lot of information on the project, nor casting information and production date, but per Variety source will “feature other characters from the world of Gotham.” Long Live Whedon!

‘The Mummy’ new poster has an eye (and double iris) on you

By AI Creative Media

Already shaping up as one of our most anticipated movies of the summer, Universal releases another poster and teaser trailer for ‘The Mummy’. And it is creepy.

The artwork features a close-up of Princess Ahmanet’s (Sofia Boutella) double iris and what looks like special characters tattooed on her face. It is a simple yet intriguing one-sheet that conveys the film’s elements of terror and ancient civilization which should delight horror fans. This puts Boutellas’ menacing stare, also seen on the first teaser trailer a few months ago, front and center.

Headlined by Tom Cruise, the movie is a reboot of The Mummy franchise and is intended to be the first installment in Universal Monsters shared universe. The series intends to include Invisible Man (supposedly starring Johnny Depp), The Wolf Man, Van Helsing, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the Bride of Frankenstein.

A new extended trailer is expected to debut during the season finale of ‘The Walking Dead’ this Sunday.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman from a script by John Spaihts, the action-adventure horror film also stars Oscar winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator), Annabelle Wallis (King Arthur), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (The People V. O.J. Simpson).

The film is set to arrive on June 9.

Major brands pull out of Youtube

By Armando

It has not been a good week for Google lately. This week, major advertisers are pulling their products from appearing in Youtube over the issue of their ads appearing alongside undesirable content posted in the video-sharing platform.

Last Monday, Google apologized to ad clients for the video content fiasco, but that did not seem to stop the defections. By Friday, Starbucks, PepsiCo, and General Motors among others say they are suspending Google non-search ads. This follows several other companies such as AT&T, Verizon, Johnson & Johnson, Volkswagen and many others which have either pulled or suspended their ads earlier this week.

Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006, in what was seen by many as a risky investment. Since then YouTube has become the leading site for online video, and one of most visited sites on the internet alongside Google and Facebook. From professionally produced content to vapid home videos, the site runs the gamut of shared videos online.

YouTube now has over a billion users, almost one-third of all people on the Internet, and 300 hours of video are uploaded every minute, making the task of moderating ad placements daunting, near impossible from sheer volume of uploads alone.

In fairness to Google, the company seem to be addressing the issue directly, and is implementing new changes this week, including a new video verification process. Some might remember, Facebook also had it’s fixes and update on metrics and reporting late last year.

Advertising is one of the core businesses for Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company. Although a potential headache for Google, YouTube ads represents only a small fraction of Alphabet revenue. Last October, Susan Wojcicki, Youtube CEO said the video site is still in investment mode.
