‘The Mummy’ new poster has an eye (and double iris) on you

By AI Creative Media

Already shaping up as one of our most anticipated movies of the summer, Universal releases another poster and teaser trailer for ‘The Mummy’. And it is creepy.

The artwork features a close-up of Princess Ahmanet’s (Sofia Boutella) double iris and what looks like special characters tattooed on her face. It is a simple yet intriguing one-sheet that conveys the film’s elements of terror and ancient civilization which should delight horror fans. This puts Boutellas’ menacing stare, also seen on the first teaser trailer a few months ago, front and center.

Headlined by Tom Cruise, the movie is a reboot of The Mummy franchise and is intended to be the first installment in Universal Monsters shared universe. The series intends to include Invisible Man (supposedly starring Johnny Depp), The Wolf Man, Van Helsing, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the Bride of Frankenstein.

A new extended trailer is expected to debut during the season finale of ‘The Walking Dead’ this Sunday.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman from a script by John Spaihts, the action-adventure horror film also stars Oscar winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator), Annabelle Wallis (King Arthur), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (The People V. O.J. Simpson).

The film is set to arrive on June 9.

Major brands pull out of Youtube

By Armando

It has not been a good week for Google lately. This week, major advertisers are pulling their products from appearing in Youtube over the issue of their ads appearing alongside undesirable content posted in the video-sharing platform.

Last Monday, Google apologized to ad clients for the video content fiasco, but that did not seem to stop the defections. By Friday, Starbucks, PepsiCo, and General Motors among others say they are suspending Google non-search ads. This follows several other companies such as AT&T, Verizon, Johnson & Johnson, Volkswagen and many others which have either pulled or suspended their ads earlier this week.

Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006, in what was seen by many as a risky investment. Since then YouTube has become the leading site for online video, and one of most visited sites on the internet alongside Google and Facebook. From professionally produced content to vapid home videos, the site runs the gamut of shared videos online.

YouTube now has over a billion users, almost one-third of all people on the Internet, and 300 hours of video are uploaded every minute, making the task of moderating ad placements daunting, near impossible from sheer volume of uploads alone.

In fairness to Google, the company seem to be addressing the issue directly, and is implementing new changes this week, including a new video verification process. Some might remember, Facebook also had it’s fixes and update on metrics and reporting late last year.

Advertising is one of the core businesses for Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company. Although a potential headache for Google, YouTube ads represents only a small fraction of Alphabet revenue. Last October, Susan Wojcicki, Youtube CEO said the video site is still in investment mode.

What Fans Can Expect From Season Two of WestWorld

By Sukhbir Dhillon

After a gripping first season that even bested the debut season of the Game of Thrones, in terms of ratings, creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s left fans in awe as the show went out with a bang to cap off an incredible first season that left fans wishing for much more. Now as fans wait for the second season, which will premiere in 2018, there is a lot of speculation about which direction the show will go in, who will be back, and where will it be located.

Recently, Nolan stated the show would be leaving the westworld park behind, and instead be moving onto other parks within the show’s universe,“So we said when we started working on the series that we wanted to be ambitious. We wanted each season to increase in that ambition and in the scope of the show.”

Joy also offers input on the future of the show and what kind of themes to expect in season two, “the safety is off,” so for characters like Dolores and other hosts, they won’t be the painfully limited robots that die horrifically each episode. Instead fans can anticipate the hosts to be in the driver’s seat, and that can play out in any number of ways.

The Dark Tower reveals first poster

By Armando

“There are other worlds than these,” a quote from the Stephen King books as it appears on the poster of The Dark Tower, the long-awaited film adaptation that will arrive in theaters this summer.

The one-sheet was revealed by King himself on Twitter (below), along with a short message: “Pilgrim, there are other worlds than these. Come with us on the adventure.” Shortly after, Matthew McConaughey, who plays the antagonist Walter Padick, posted his own tweet, “Flip your phone to see what I see.

Indeed, the striking poster shows Roland the Gunslinger (Idris Elba) and the boy adventurer Jake (Tom Taylor) at the bottom, and when flipped upside-down shows McConaughey’s dark sorcerer Walter, also known as The Man In Black. It is a clever concept, especially if you notice how The Tower itself appears as a negative space silhouette created by the inverted Manhattan skyscrapers and is piercing into the pavement.

It is an intriguing image worthy of the high anticipation the movie carries since multiple development phases started in 2007. J.J. Abrams and Ron Howard were attached during some of these phases before it landed on Danish filmmaker and screenwriter Nikolaj Arcel.

“The Dark Tower” also stars Abbey Lee, Katheryn Winnick, Fran Kranz, Claudia Kim and Jackie Earle Haley, and is set to arrive July 28.

‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ gets sequel and new cast

By AI Creative Media

After years of speculation, the  long-gestating sequel to David Fincher’s 2011 thriller ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ is finally back on track.

The sequel, ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’ will be directed by Fede Alverez, the man behind last year’s surprise horror-thriller hit ‘Don’t Breathe’, a modestly budgeted horror-thriller that was critically well-reviewed and grossed over $157 million. The movie will debut in theaters on Oct. 5, 2018. The announcement was made at the London Book Fair during a celebration for the fifth Millennium book launch.

“I’m hugely excited and grateful for this opportunity,” Alvarez said. “Sony has become family to me and I can’t think of a more thrilling project to celebrate our relationship. Lisbeth Salander is the kind of character any director dreams of bringing to life. We’ve got a great script and now comes the most fun part – finding our Lisbeth.”

The sequel’s road to fruition was not an easy path. ‘Dragon’ sequel ‘The Girl Who Played Fire’ was originally intended for a 2013 release but was later delayed as ‘Dragon Tattoo’ writer Steve Zaillian was “still working on the script”, then later, Hollywood Reporter reported neither Rooney Mara (who played the series’ lead character) nor Daniel Craig will be back, and that Sony was planning on a franchise reboot instead, with Steven Knight (Burnt) in talks about an adaptation right after ‘Web’ was published.

Book Review: Dead Letters by Caite Dolan-Leach

Dead Letters by Caite Dolan-Leach

By Elizabeth Walker

There’s something just fascinating about twins. While more common than they used to be, thanks to advances in modern fertility treatments, twins – particularly identical twins – continue to captivate the mind. Dead Letters by Caite Dolan-Leach is engrossing not only for its portrayal of its monozygotic heroines but also for the deliberate unraveling of their shared history.

The reader first encounters Ava Antipova flying back from Paris to her childhood home, a vineyard in upstate New York. She has come back to make arrangements after her twin sister, Zelda, has been reported dead in a barn fire. While Ava goes through the emotionally draining motions of organizing the funeral, talking to the police, and tending to her aging mother, she finds herself doubting the story of her estranged sister’s demise. Her suspicions are confirmed when she begins receiving emails from Zelda from beyond the grave.
