Dark Tower’ Trailer Is Finally Here

I do not kill with my gun…I kill with my heart.” ― Stephen King, The Gunslinger

One of the year’s most ambitious adaptations, Sony’s “The Dark Tower” finally got a trailer. Expectations are high on this one: the first of the eight-book saga from which the movie is based on began in 1983 with The Gunslinger, nearly a 35-year wait for fans. From what we have seen so far, its all worth it.

The overarching ideas of the books are there on the trailer, while also keeping some of King’s trademark elements; the discovery of another dimension, the lone gunslinger in a quest to reach the tower, and the vicious sorcerer aka The Man in Black on the chase. And similar to the trailer for King’s other big adaption this year, ‘It’, we find a boy lead us again into a world of mystery and epic journey.

The trailer look busy and broad; as one should expect there is no way to condense King’s series of novels on a 3-minute trailer so fans should keep their expectations in check. It does help to be aware that the movie is not a faithful adaptation but another take on the stories which King crafted over the years.

“The Dark Tower” stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey and Tom Taylor, as Roland Deschain/Gunslinger, Walter/The Man in Black, and Jake Chambers respectively. Directed and co-written by Nikolaj Arcel, the movie also stars Abbey Lee, Katheryn Winnick, Fran Kranz, Claudia Kim and Jackie Earle Haley. The movie is coming to theaters on August 4, 2017.

‘Dark Tower” Gets Two New Posters Ahead of Trailer Release

By Creative Media Times

The trailer for one of our most anticipated movies this summer, the adaptation of Stephen King’s sci-fi Western horror film ‘The Dark Tower’, is just around the corner. But before that, Columbia Pictures released two new posters (below). Following that creatively provocative one-sheet teaser we saw more than a month ago, these posters show more of what our main characters will look like, but equally intriguing nonetheless.

The posters feature Matthew McConaughey’s sorcerer villain Walter/Man in Black, and Idris Elba’s gunslinger Roland Deschain. We will see more of how these characters interact with the release of the trailer tomorrow. Anticipation is running high for this adaptation especially after that other Stephen King movie ‘It’ smashed online views records.

Here’s the film’s synopsis to those unfamiliar:

Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.

The Dark Tower will be in theaters everywhere August 4th, 2017.

Paul McGuigan Eyed To Direct “Bond 25”

By Creative Media Times

Paul McGuigan By Anthony Citrano

There has been a lot of conversations about the future of ‘Bond 25’ lately. A few weeks ago, five Hollywood studios were tied in a bidding war over distribution rights to James Bond. This comes after Sony’s contract to distribute and market Bond films expired with 2015’s ‘Spectre’. Some of the studios vying in this interesting bidding war includes Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Annapurna Pictures.

Now, IndieWire is reporting that ‘Lucky Number Slevin’ director Paul McGuigan might be headed for the next’s Bond’s directing gig. It is still not confirmed whether Daniel Craig is returning for the role, but Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are apparently working on a script. So it’s only natural for the hunt for a director to begin.

Based on the article, it seems that producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are impressed with McGuigan’s work on ‘Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool’ that they become interested to put him in consideration. Broccoli is the head of Eon Productions which produced ‘Liverpool’ (starring Jamie Bell and Annette Bening).

McGuigan is an interesting choice, as we have not seen him helm a movie the scale of a cultural phenomenon that is Bond. Which makes the release of ‘Liverpool’ all the more intriguing. Besides, all these might eventually be decided on how the aforementioned studio bidding war will unfold. It is at least good to hear that we are hearing some activity on ‘Bond 25’ once again.

Ridley Scott Says Alien 5 Will Never Happen

By Creative Media Times

By Ridley Scott speaking at Wondercon, Anaheim, by Gage Skidmore

Just weeks before Alien: Covenant opens nationwide, Ridley Scott puts to rest any hopes and speculations about the possibility of ‘Alien 5’ becoming a reality.

This speculation has been around for a couple of years since ‘District 9’ director Neill Blomkamp posted a concept art on Instagram, and was later followed by Sigourney Weaver (who worked with Blomkamp in ‘Chappi’) expressing interest in doing the movie.

But with production of ‘Covenant’ sequel already underway, currently titled ‘Awakening’, it looks like Scott will be getting busy piloting the Alien franchise. Scott of course directed the original 1979 Alien film and was followed by three sequels by James Cameron, David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet successively.

Here’s portion of Scott’s statement regarding ‘Alien 5’ (translated by AVP Galaxy):

“Ridley Scott, who was in Paris for the promotion of the new opus of the saga, was even more definitive in our microphone: “I think he will never see the light,” he replied after explaining That the project was far less advanced than previously thought. “There was never a scenario, just an idea that evolved into a pitch of ten pages, I had to participate as a producer but it did not go any further because the Fox decided that She did not want to do it. I had already done Prometheus and worked on Covenant.”

But there will be plenty of ‘Alien’ movies in the pipeline for fans, starting with this summers’ Alien: Covenant. Starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, the movie opens in theaters on May 19.

Hugh Jackman might have ended his portrayal of the character but ‘Logan’ will be returning in theaters, at least for one day.

James Mangold’s final Wolverine solo film will be back in cinemas soon, this time in black and white which should please the movie’s most ardent fans. Director Mangold made the announcement on Twitter, including its date which is May 16th, a week before its home media release on May 23. There is not a lot of information out there as to location and theater count, but we’ll surely hear more about this soon. Back in March, Mangold confirmed the black and white version with a rather cryptic Twitter post that he was indeed “workin’ on it”.

Warner Bros.

This isn’t the first time a gritty action film from a major studio is getting a black and white treatment. Some might remember that in 2016, George Miller’s masterpiece ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ was released in black and white on Blu-ray. Dubbed “Black and Chrome Edition”, the version will receive a one-night-only theatrical showing in England this Sunday, though Miller has been talking about his intention since the film’s release back in 2015. It surely helped that the movie was critical hit and received numerous awards.

Similarly, ‘Logan’ was critical and commercial hit. On top of being the best reviewed ‘X-Men’ film, it is one of the highest grossing films this year, $604 million worldwide to date.
