Anzuelo, the latest graphic novel from Eisner Award-winning artist and writer Emma Ríos, will be released in trade paperback on November 19 via Image Comics. Originally released in hardcover, the story has earned widespread acclaim for its imaginative worldbuilding and visual complexity.
Described by The New York Times as a “sweeping magical-realist coming-of-age story,” Anzuelo follows a group of teens navigating a world transformed after the sea mysteriously rises and absorbs the horizon. As reality bends, the characters are forced to adapt—physically and emotionally—while searching for meaning and gentleness in a fractured world.
Set in a surreal, post-apocalyptic landscape shaped by climate collapse, Anzuelo explores themes of nonviolence, survival, and transformation. The book has drawn praise for its poetic tone and ecological undertones, with Publishers Weekly calling it a “stunningly rendered postapocalyptic eco-horror” in a starred review.
Known for Pretty Deadly and Mirror, Ríos brings her signature lyrical style to a story that resists easy categorization, blending speculative fiction, dystopia, and dreamlike storytelling.
Anzuelo will also be available in digital formats and at major retailers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and independent bookstores starting December 2.
