Sony Pictures has just announced that there will be a Ghostbusters sequel, and have in fact dated its release: July 10th of 2020.That will be the same month as the studio’s own the Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, is set to be released, solidifying Sony Pictures’ grip on the summer month of July 2020. Morbius is based on the character from Marvel Comics’ gritty anti-hero Morbius the Living Vampire and is set to feature Jared Leto portraying the character.
The Ghostbusters sequel release date announcement confirms the film is moving forward. This comes after the studio announced earlier this month that Jason Reitman will be directed the sequel. Fans of the original should remember that it was Jason’s father, Ivan Reitman who was responsible for bringing the original films to the big screen, directing both Ghostbusters (1984) and its sequel Ghostbusters II (1989).
Though not much info about the upcoming film has been release, nor a cast has been announced, Jason Reitman posted a teaser trailer on his Twitter account. “Everybody can relax, I found the car. #GB20,” Reitman posted.
Jason Reitman recently helmed this year’s Charlize Theron starrer “Tully.” He also directed acclaimed boxoffice hits Juno (2007) and Up in the Air (2009).
