“The Shining” Sequel In The Works With Ewan McGregor

By Creative Media Times

Publisher: Scribner

Here’s Danny!

It looks like Warner Bros. has found its Danny Torrance, the lead in “Doctor Sleep” in the form of Ewan McGregor, as reported by Hollywood Reporter.

“Doctor Sleep” is based on the 2013 novel of the same name from author of horror Stephen King, and is the sequel to “Shining.” That film was of course adapted in the 1980 film which was directed by Stanley Kubrick, with Jack Nicholson playing the iconic character Jack Torrance.

Fans will remember that the young Danny Torrance in the landmark classic, (played by Danny Lloyd who retired from acting a few years after the film’s release) was Jack’s son with “the shining” or psychic abilities who both endangered but later saved himself and his mother Wendy, played by Shelly Duvall.

In the book, Danny who is now in his 40s, is still haunted by events at the Overlook Hotel while his psychic abilities begins to resurface.

Mike Flanagan is said to be helming the sequel, an apt selection given his recent involvement in another King novella adaptation “Gerald’s Game,” a Netflix psychological horror which he directed and wrote with Jeff Howard. Flanagan has also written and director horror films Oculus, Before I Wake and Ouija: Origin of Evil.

The director recently posted on Twitter that the movie will be in theaters in 2020.

Ewan McGregor will be seen next in “Christopher Robin,” an adaptation of Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh” scheduled for release in this summer.

“The Little Stranger”: Creepy New Trailer And Poster Released

By Creative Media Times

Focus Features

Last week has been good for horror fans with the surprising success of Hereditary at the boxoffice and the release of intense new trailer for the latest Halloween installment. The fun continues this week with the release of a spooky new trailer for “The Little Stranger,” the gothic horror from Irish film director and screenwriter Lenny Abrahamson.

The ghost story stars Domhnall Gleeson as Dr. Faraday, who is called to the dilapidated mansion Hundreds Hall to investigate some mysterious and inexplicable events. The film is based on the 2009 novel of the same name by author Sarah Waters.

Based on the director’s recent success directing “Room,” the multiple oscar nominated film (including one for Brie Larson’s as female lead), the The Little Stranger could be another winner. Not to mention Gleeson’s work has always been exceptional. The Irish born actor recently appeared as General Hux in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Also released is a bizarre new poster featuring a crumbling profile of Dr. Faraday, revealing blank cement underneath. “These Delusions Are Contagious,” the poster says.

Focus Features is set to release “The Little Stranger” on August 31, 2018.

Here is the film’s synopsis:

Dr. Faraday, the son of a housemaid, builts a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1948, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants – mother, son, and daughter – are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how disturbingly, the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.

“Arachnophobia” Remake Being Developed

By Creative Media Times

Amblin Entertainment

Those creepy spiders that traumatized moviegoers in 1990 may be back to the big screen soon, as Steven Spielberg’s Amblin and James Wan are said to be developing a remake of Arachnophobia, Variety is reporting.

The 1990 original horror-comedy was directed by Frank Marshall and starred Jeff Daniels and John Goodman. The film follows a newly discovered Venezuelan spider, transported through a coffin to a small American town, producing a species of deadly spiders and begins to kill the town’s residents.

Wan recently worked on Warner Bros and DC’s “Aquaman” which is slated for release later this year. He’s had a string of successes in the horror genre, after directing The Conjuring (2013) and it sequel The Conjuring 2 (2016) and produced its spinoff The Nun, set to open this September. He is not slated to helm Arachnophobia remake but is involved as producer.

Arachnophobia was a modest success back in the summer of 1990, grossing $53 million at the box office, and receiving generally positive reviews.

The director acknowledged the remake via Twitter, where he seem to suggest an interest in having John Goodman return for the remake.
