Saoirse Ronan as Mary, Queen of Scots: First Look

By Creative Media Times

Focus Features

As filming began for the historical drama Mary Queen Of Scots, we have the first look at Saoirse Ronan’s title character and she looks as regal as ever. Ronan stars in the film opposite Margot Robbie as Elizabeth I.

Based on John Guy’s acclaimed biography My Heart is My Own: The Life of Mary Queen of Scots, the film artistic director Josie Rourke’s directorial debut. Academy Award nominee Beau Willimon (The Ides of March) wrote the screenplay adaptation. The film explores the early life of charismatic Mary Stuart, who was Queen of France at age 16 and widowed a couple of years later by 18.

Ronan and Robbie are joined by a fantastic cast including rising stars Jack Lowden who appeared in this summer’s Dunkirk (plus I’m looking forward to his Morrissey film England is Mine), Joe Alwyn and Martin Compston. Brendan Coyle, David Tennant, and Guy Pearce are also featured.

“We are privileged to be collaborating with our partners at Working Title on this stellar production, and with Josie as she makes the exciting move from stage to screen work,” said Focus chairman Peter Kujawski. “With two of today’s most vital actresses bringing to life two female titans, Mary, Queen of Scots will be one of the movie events of 2018.”

Here’s the synopsis from the release:

Mary, Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth 1. Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

“Thor: Ragnarok” Japanese Trailer Has Doctor Strange Cameo

By Creative Media Times

Marvel Studios

The brand new Japanese trailer for “Thor: Ragnarok” finally reveals Doctor Strange in the movie. “Thor, I sense a great change in your future. Destiny has dire plans for you my friend,” says Benedict Cumberbatch’s Strange character. “I have dire plans for destiny,” Thor responds.

Though this might be expected, given that the God of Thunder paid a visit to the surgeon-turned-sorcerer in a post credit scene of last year’s Doctor Strange, this is actually the first time that Strange is featured in the film’s marketing.

And with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor sporting the same look in that post credit scene and this new scene with Strange, it should be interesting to find out the narrative connection between the two. Most of the trailer is similar to the action-packed version unveiled last month at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Directed by Taika Waititi with a screenplay by Eric Pearson, the film brings back Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki, as well as returning cast Idris Elba (Heimdall), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Ray Stevenson (Volstagg), with new cast members Cate Blanchett (Hela), Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Karl Urban (Skurge), Sam Neill, and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk).

Thor: Ragnarok (titled in Japan as “Thor: Battle Royale), arrives in US theaters on November 3, three days earlier than the Japanese release date of November 6th.

The actor confirms to Stephen Colbert that he will return to the role for ‘Bond 25’. “Yes,” Craig replied point-blank when asked the question. Craig also said that he always wanted to return, and “just want to go out on a high note.”

During the show, Craig acknowledge that he has been cagey about whether he will or will not return for the role. Speculation and rumors heightened after New York Times published an article last month about his future on the role but no official announcement was made by the studio.

But it appears Craig has known for “a couple of months”: “We’ve been discussing it, we’ve just been trying to figure things out. I always wanted to. I just needed a break,” he explained.

Craig made his debut as 007 in 2006’s Casino Royale, and since then has appeared in two more Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. All of these films have been massive hits, with one in particular Skyfall, grossing north of a billion dollars worldwide.

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will work on the script. Both also worked on Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. The film will be produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and is slated for release in November 2019.

Country Music Legend Jo Walker-Meador dies at 93

By Armando

Country Music Hall of Fame Induction of Jo Walker-Meador.

The longest-serving CMA Executive Director and one of the most influential advocates of country music, Jo Walker-Meador, has died. According to the Country Music Association and the Country Music Hall of Fame release, she died Tuesday night in Nashville after a stroke. Jo Walker-Meador was 93, and he is survived by her brother Pete Denning, daughter Michelle Walker, and step-children Rob and Karen Meador.

“Jo was a champion for Country Music around the world and a groundbreaker for women in the entertainment business,” said CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern. “On a personal note, I will miss her guidance, humor, and friendship. She was the first meeting I set up before I took this job. She taught me lessons in how to gracefully navigate the Board. She was always diplomatic in her storytelling and she had some great ones to share. Over the last six months she was a little more candid and I always looked forward to our time together. She will be greatly missed by all. My heart is broken.”

It is during her tenure that many of country music’s major initiatives were conceived, including The Country Music Hall of Fame which was created in 1961, the CMA Awards which created in 1967 and began its national tv broadcast a year later, and the CMA Music Festival; all of which are staples in celebrating the genre while also helping global awareness of Country Music.

“Nosferatu” Remake Reteams Anya Taylor-Joy With ‘The Witch’ Director

By Creative Media Times

A24

The Witch‘s Robert Eggers is back to working with the film’s star Anya Taylor-Joy, this time for remake of the 1922 silent film Nosferatu. According to Variety, Eggers “is in negotiations” to the star in the remake.

Based on the mythology of Dracula and an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897), Nosferatu was once remade by Werner Herzog in 1979’s Nosferatu the Vampyre with starred Klaus Kinski as Count Dracula.

The Witch is considered a breakout role for Taylor-Joy, so there is good reason for this reunion. The Witch was very well received by critics after screening at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. The movie was given wide theatrical release by the studio early last year, eventually grossing $40 million.

Taylor-Joy recently appeared in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, and will be filming a sequel along with McAvoy, Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson, combining plot and characters of both Split and Unbreakable.

Here is the book’s synopsis per its profile on Amazon:

Alys was seven the first time she saw the soul eaters. These soul eaters are twin sisters who were abandoned by their father and slowly grew into something not quite human. And they feed off of human souls. When her village was attacked, Alys was spared and sent to live in a neighboring village. There the devout people created a strict world where fear of the soul eaters—and of the Beast they believe guides them—rule village life. But the Beast is not what they think he is. And neither is Alys.

Inside, Alys feels connected to the soul eaters, and maybe even to the Beast itself. As she grows from a child to a teenager, she longs for the freedom of the forest. And she has a gift she can tell no one, for fear they will call her a witch. When disaster strikes, Alys finds herself on a journey to heal herself and her world. A journey that will take her through the darkest parts of the forest, where danger threatens her from the outside—and from within her own heart and soul.

First Look At Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” Olivia Cooke As Art3mis

By Creative Media Times

Anticipation for Stephen Spielberg’s next big sci-fi movie “Ready Player One” has been running high ever since Warner Bros. unveiled the film’s trailer to a very enthusiastic reception at last month’s Comic-Con in San Diego. As soon as Iron Giant showed up in the trailer, fans just went insane. It truly was a very special reveal.

So far, the trailer is mostly focused on its lead character Wade Owen Watts / Parzival (played by Tye Sheridan) and the virtual reality world of the Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation, aka OASIS.

Now we have a first-look image, via Empire Magazine which reveals female lead Olivia Cooke’s Samantha Evelyn Cook/Art3mis. Cooke was actually the first to be cast in the film, back in September 2015, and we are sure to see more of her character as we get closer to the film’s release, along with other major characters such as Mark Rylance’s James Halliday and T. J. Miller’s i-R0k.

Miley Cyrus Hints at a New Album and New Look on Younger Now

Eric Gasa

Miley Cyrus has announced a release date and title for her highly anticipated album, Younger Now, which is slated to drop September 29. The advent of this new record finds Cyrus in a very unique position musically. Three years after her viral twerking stunt at the VMAs with Robin Thicke, the party-hard pop artist is now looking to dial back her persona of sex, drugs, and rock & roll, for a more wholesome approach.

The first single from Younger Now, “Malibu” trades the hip-hop beats for a sweet, joyful, and sun-kissed guitar ballad. The music video features Cyrus smiling, dancing, and running alongside the beach with flowers in her hair. When compared to Cyrus licking a sledgehammer and straddling a wrecking ball naked in 2013’s “Wrecking Ball” video, “Malibu” is a complete 180.

The stylistic change comes after the release of Cyrus’ last record, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, a glittery and experimental release that found the artist wearing rainbow colored hair and a unicorn costume onstage. After the tour, Cyrus went on a social media blackout, became politically involved, and moved out to Malibu to get back to her roots.

According to a May 2017 interview with Billboard Magazine, Cyrus is now off drugs, drinking, and going completely clean.
