Disney has another boxoffice phenomenon on the horizon as its “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is pacing ahead of Black Panther in advance ticket sales, according to Fandango. The film’s tickets went on sale May 4th.

This would put “Solo” among 2018’s best first days of presales, and second to “Avengers: Infinity War.” Current projections puts the film’s four-day Memorial Day holiday in the $170 million range.

If these estimates hold, it would put the Disney and Lucasfilm Star Wars spin-off ahead of the current record set by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, which opened to $139.8M during Memorial Day weekend in 2007.

According to the press release, fans who buys a ticket or more from Fandango will receive a poster of the movie while supply lasts. To see the promo, please go to fandangofanshop.com.

Directed by Ron Howard and produced by Lucasfilm from a screenplay by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, the film is an origin story of the iconic character and focuses on his adventures. Alden Ehrenreich is playing the younger version of the title character, while also in the film are Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo.

‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ is slated for release on May 25, 2018. The spin-off is set to premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on May 15, 2018, ten full days before its official release in the United States on May 25, 2018.

Witness Star Wars History In The Making With Star Wars #50

Don’t miss the start of the Kieron Gillen’s biggest Star Wars story ever in comics

After building their forces in complete secrecy, the Rebel Fleet is finally ready. But how long will they be able to stay hidden from the dark clutches of the Empire – and Darth Vader himself? Star Wars fans won’t want to miss series writer Kieron Gillen’s epic landmark issue where all may be lost…and all hope may die.

“When I was asked to take over the book, having a big story for the magical issue #50 was very much in my goals,” said Gillen. “As such, I’ve spent the first twelve issues building up to this, which is basically the biggest story I’ve told in Star Wars. It’s an event-level tragedy on an epic scale, and it’s designed as the key bridging piece between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. I also haven’t written Darth Vader in ages, so now’s the time to start having my lightsaber fun again!”

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” Set To Premiere At Cannes

By Creative Media Times

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios’ summer tentpole “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is set to make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, where its set to screen out of competition.

The highly-anticipated second Star Wars spin-off is set to premiere at the prestigious festival on May 15, 2018, that is ten full days before its official release in the United States on May 25, 2018.

The premiere is certainly a surprise given that the Cannes Film Fest is known to platform artsy highbrow films than Hollywood blockbusters. But that is actually not always the case. In fact, George Lucas’ “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” officially premiered on the same day thirteen years ago at the festival.

Directed by Ron Howard and produced by Lucasfilm from a screenplay by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, the film is an origin story of the iconic character and focuses on his adventures, with Alden Ehrenreich playing the younger version of the title character. Also in the film are Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo.

Cannes Film Festival will run from May 8 to 19, with the competition jury headed by Cate Blanchett. Asghar Farhadi’s psychological thriller “Everybody Knows” starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem is scheduled to open the festival.

‘The Last Jedi’ To Close 2017 With A Bang

By Armando

Lucasfilm Ltd. – Walt Disney Studios

Its certainly not surprising for a Star Wars movie to top the year-end boxoffice list. Save for Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones in 2002, every single episode in the Star Wars series has topped the annual box-office list since it all began in 1977.

Still, to do it in mere 3 weekends is impressive. As of today, Wednesday Dec 28, boxoffice.com is reporting that the second installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy is at $444.9 million domestically after another $21.5 million on Wedneday.

As 2017 draws to a close, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is expected to lead the upcoming weekend once again, with estimates around $57 million per boxofficemojo.com. That should be enough to surpass Beauty and the Beast’s $504 million and end the year as the top grossing domestic film, just in time before New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Overseas, Luke Skywalker and company is just as potent: the film is expected to cross $900m today and will join the $1 billion club in the next few days, most likely and quite fittingly on Sunday, the last day of the year.

The Last Jedi’s boxoffice haul marks the third year in a row that a Star Wars film closed the year on top after 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and last year’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

Other films also making noise are Dwayne Johnson’s action comedy “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” and Universal’s “Pitch Perfect 3″, the third and final film in the Pitch Perfect trilogy. Both are expected to finish strong this weekend in the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Scores Huge Thursday Opening Gross

By Creative Media Times

Lucasfilm Ltd. – Walt Disney Studios

The day finally arrived and its a force to reckon with. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” opens on Thursday night to $45 million, making it the second highest Thursday opening ever, next only to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which grossed $57 million in 2015.

Though it didn’t beat its predecessor, The Last Jedi easily beats last year’s Rogue One, which made $29 million for its Thursday night opening.

Released by the Walt Disney Co., The Last Jedi is on pace to collect around $200 million in the United States and Canada over the weekend based on its Thursday night performance. If it reaches that number, and there’s no reason to believe it won’t at this point, The Last Jedi will only be the fourth film top cross that milestone.

Internationally, “The Last Jedi” made $60.8 million from its early two day run so far through Thursday night, with more major market still to follow including China where the film opens on January 5.

This is another big news for Disney this week, if not slightly overshadowed by the recent announcement of the company’s historic $52.4 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox assets.

Critics are also embracing the film, scoring 86 from Metacritic.com, indicating universal acclaim, with The Guardian’s Jordan Hoffman describing The Last Jedi “first post-Lucas Star Wars film that feels free to dance to its own beat.”

The Last Jedi is currently playing in theaters.
