Van’s Warped Tour Wraps Up Its Final Tour Ever

By Armando

“All things must come to an end,” announced last year by founder Kevin Lyman on Warped Tour’s official website that 2018 will be its final time to hit the road.

And this week, that end did arrive, as Pennywise performed the final of song of the iconic tour.

“It’s the last @VansWarpedTour day of the summer, & I will always say you can never let your guard down until the last truck is loaded and everyone is home safe,” Lyman posted on Twitter. “Catering truck caught on fire 🔥 last night! Awesome crew is pulling something together though.”

The traveling festival has been touring annually each summer since 1995 in the United States and Canada. It later became known as “Vans Warped Tour” after the manufacturer of skateboarding shoes became the main sponsor in 1996.

Known primarily as a punk rock festival, the tour has since diversified into featuring acts of various genres beyond its original alternative rock and punk rock roots, including performances from Fall Out Boy, No Doubt, Blink-182, and Paramore.

Although this week marks the end of the tour, an end of an era so to speak, fans are already looking into the future, including Lyman, who tweeted a message in a hopeful tone. “Wow @VansWarpedTour has just ended and I am watching the last tail lights leave the lot,” he posted. “I have done what I can do and now it is your turn. Do amazing things, much love to those who got it!”

Drake “In My Feelings” Official Video Released

By Creative Media Times

Drake’s bounce track that inspired a viral dance challenge finally has an official video. The man who started the challenge, comedian Shiggy appears in the new video along with footage of other celebrities such as DJ Khaled, the cast of Stranger Things, Ciara and Will Smith, all of whom have done their own versions of the dance craze.

Shiggy appeared in the video with his signature dance moves from the dance challenge that is circulating on Instagram. He also gets to show some of his acting skills playing Drake’s assistant.

The nearly eight-minute long video, most of which shot on the streets of New Orleans, started with Drake professing his love to “Kiki,” played by actress La La Anthony and asking to take her out and see a movie. But it wasn’t easy under the watchful eye of her mom.

“Hello?! I want you to get your Jordans off my walkway. This not a Taye Diggs movie, sir. You’re a grown man. Carry your ass on home now,” her mom says, played by actress Phylicia Rashad. “I want you to leeeeave, and don’t forget to go when you leave!,” Rashad adds as Drake tries to plead his case.

Drake has been dominating the charts this year. The song debuted in the top 10 Billboard’s Hot 100 along with seven other tracks from his latest album. It then rose to no.1 the following week, essentially replacing his own song “Nice for What” at the top.

“In My Feelings” is from the Canadian musician’s chart-topping fifth studio album ‘Scorpion’. Watch the track’s new video below:

David Bowie’s First Ever Recording Found in Bread Basket

By Eric Gasa

Even two years after his death in 2016, the world is still finding posthumous work from the legendary David Bowie. Before he was the singer/fashion icon known as Ziggy Stardust, Bowie, or then David Robert Jones, was an aspiring saxophone player for his teen band, The Konrads. In typical Bowie fashion, a long-lost demo recording from Bowie’s time with The Konrads has been recently discovered in of all places, a bread basket. The tape, recovered in the home of the band’s drummer, David Hadfield, is expected to auction for £13,000 and reveals a side of Bowie that few people knew.

Before the glam, platinum records, and sold-out stadiums, Bowie was just a 16-year-old performer fighting for his time in the spotlight. In fact, at the time of the recording Bowie was not even sure he wanted to be a vocalist.

“David had no inclination to become a singer at this point, his heart and mind were focused on becoming a world class saxophone player,” Hadfield explained to The Guardian. “Our agent, Eric Easton, who also managed the Rolling Stones, asked us to do a demo so he could try and get us an audition at Decca.”

Easton had persuaded the 16-year-old Bowie to lend his vocals on the song, “I Never Dreamed” but the song was unfortunately rejected by Decca Records. Taped in 1963, the demo is the very first recording of Bowie singing.

As the story goes, The Konrads failed to secure a record deal and Jones left the band. Six years later he reemerged as David Bowie, achieving stardom with 1969’s classic David Bowie, and it’s 1972 reissue Space Oddity.

The iconic singer died of cancer in January 2016. His last album, Blackstar was released as planned two days after the singer’s death, coinciding with his 69th birthday. Recorded in secret, Bowie’s swan song was meant as a parting gift to his fans upon his death.

Blackstar received Gold and Platinum certifications and won awards at the 2016 Grammys for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Performance.

With the discovery of this long last demo, the world has another glimpse of the artist from the grave, only adding to the mystique and legacy of Bowie.

Hadfield’s recording will go on auction this September at Omega Auctions in Newton-le-Willows in Merseyside.

Summerfest 2018 Photos and Performances

By Armando

It was another great season of Summerfest in Milwaukee this year, which saw spectacular performances, great food, and fun moments in a unique festival that seem to get bigger and more spectacular every year.

Presented by American Family Insurance, the annual music festival held at the 75-acre (30-hectare) Henry Maier Festival Park along the lakefront in Milwaukee, sees 11 days of festival fun from more than 800 acts on 11 stages, with all the great music and food in the beautiful city of Milwaukee.

Conceived in the 1960s by then mayor of Milwaukee Henry W. Maier, Summerfest originally hosted various events from concerts to film festivals. It has since attracted global attention and featured artists from a variety of music genres, as well as legendary music artists.

Dubbed as “The World’s Largest Music Festival,” this year’s festival stages were as diverse as ever, from influential and veteran music acts Steven Tyler, Pixies and Flaming Lips as well as some of today’s biggest stars Kesha, Machine Gun Kelly, Echosmith and Janelle Monae.

Summerfest 2018 Highlights

On the 4th of July at Miller Lite Oasis stage, Kesha and her pop star energy was on full display, thrilling the packed crowds with great hits and out of this world show, with the star literally sparkling as she come out from a UFO. Kesha opened the night with a wild and spirited performance of “Woman,” her single from her third studio album from last year “Rainbow.”

“Every month is Pride Month,” Kesha screamed, then sends the crowd into a dance frenzy with her chart topping hit “We R Who We R,”. Throughout the night, Kesha chatter with fans, taking in the raucous cheers that never seemed to end throughout the whole show.

By the time “Take It Off”, the party was in full swing and with some playful encouragement from Kesha, the shirts started flying to the stage. She then closed the main show set with “Blow” during which she fired up the spectacular confetti cannon.

Machine Gun Kelly @ 2018 Milwaukee Summerfest

Machine Gunn Kelly also took the stage on Thursday, July 5 at Miller Lite Oasis. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated performers in this year’s Summmerfest, Kelly drew crowds and their energy into the festival grounds before the show even started.

Kelly, whose real name is Richard Colson Baker, opened the show with “Wild Boy”, his lead single from his 2012 label debut EP “Half Naked & Almost Famous” and immediately followed up with “Golden God,” a more recent cut from his latest album “Bloom”.

The rapper also performed “Wake + Bake” and “Mind of a Stone” back to back, occasionally smoking towards a snake prop on stage. This was followed by his chart hit collaboration with Camila Cabello “Bad Things,” and although the “Havana” singer was not on stage, the song naturally sent the excited crowd to their feet.

Friday night July 6, The Flaming Lips brought their psychedelic rock energy to the Harley-Davidson Roadhouse, performing to packed and excited fans in one of the most dynamic stages at the festival.

Throughout the night, the band played more than a dozen songs including “Fight Test”, a song from their 2003 EP of the same name, as well as “The W.A.N.D. (The Will Always Negates Defeat)” and “The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song (With All Your Power)”, both from their 2006 album “At War with the Mystics”.

Over at the BMO Harris Pavilion, Janelle Monáe took the stage and brought her Dirty Computer to the big stage. There is a real sense of a star arrival last night, and the reception was proof of it. before she emerged on stage, fans had crowded around the Pavilion where a genuine excitement has built up throughout the night.

Janelle arrived on stage, initially covered in smoke, the show slowly gets into the groove of title track. And she never let go from there. Fans erupted into a loud roar and cheers as the star fully emerged and sang Crazy, Classic, Life, a song from her ‘Computer’ album.

Apart from “Jane’s Dream” and “Stevie’s Dream”, Janelle performed everything the album had to offer and more. During the night, she also took on Q.U.E.E.N. and Electric Lady back to back, both of which are from her 2013 second studio album, The Electric Lady.

Performing with backup dancers beside her, the choreography was on point. She danced, sang and even moonwalked on stage. Even though the stage itself was elaborate and spectacular, and her outfit as loud as it gets, she really held her own.

It was also a great night of cool jazz and r&b funk on July 07, including jazz blues musician Jon Batiste who graced the Johnson Controls World Stage as one of the last, and one of the most memorable performances of the night the festival.

Jon Batiste of course is the always gleeful bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This time, he joined forces with funk and soul band the Dap-Kings, the 11 member group who also recently performed with Kesha at the festival, as well as Amy Winehouse and Michael Bublé in the past.

Batiste looked and sounded every bit a seasoned performer and is one of the big surprises in the 11 day festival. You can tell he was very much at home on stage. He’s an incredible and exciting performer, working the stage and captivating the diverse crowd that was cheering and singing along.
