Shot on the 200th Anniversary of Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN, veteran genre writer-director Larry Fessenden’s brings his unique vision of the literary classic in DEPRAVED, set in modern Brooklyn.

This meditative reimagining of the novel explores the crisis of masculinity and ideas about loneliness, memory and the subtle psychological shocks that shape us as individuals.

Alex (Owen Campbell) leaves his girlfriend Lucy (Chloë Levine) after an emotional night, walking the streets alone to get home.From out of nowhere, he is stabbed in a frenzied attack, with the life draining out of him. He awakes to find he is the brain in a body he does not recognize. This creature, Adam (Alex Breaux), has been brought into consciousness by Henry (David Call), a brilliant field surgeon suffering from PTSD after two tours in the Mideast, and his accomplice Polidori (Joshua Leonard), a predator determined to cash in on the experiment that brought Adam to life. Henry is increasingly consumed with remorse over what he’s done and when Adam finally discovers a video documenting his own origin, he goes on a rampage that reverberates through the group and tragedy befalls them all.

Trailer Premiere: Master of Dark Shadows

MPI Media Group has officially released the trailer and announced the release date for it the highly anticipated MASTER OF DARK SHADOWS, a comprehensive celebration of the legendary Gothic daytime series Dark Shadows and its visionary creator, Dan Curtis.

The film will be available across digital platforms and on DVD April 16, 2019. The feature documentary, which was shot in New York, LA and London, includes interviews with key actors and filmmakers involved in the undyingly popular story of vampire Barnabas Collins and all the eerie goings-on at the gloomy Maine mansion Collinwood. The documentary was directed by David Gregory(Lost Soul, Godfathers of Mondo)and is set to be released this spring.

Narrated by Ian McShane (Deadwood), MASTER OF DARK SHADOWS offers insights from Curtis himself in addition to Oscar-winning writer-producer Alan Ball (True Blood), screenwriter William F. Nolan (Trilogy of Terror), author Herman Wouk (The Winds Of War), veteran actors Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost), Barbara Steele (Black Sunday)and Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire), Dark Shadows stars Jonathan Frid, David Selby, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lara Parker, John Karlen, Nancy Barrett, Jerry Lacy, Roger Davis, Marie Wallace, Chris Pennock and James Storm, plus other colleagues and family members.

In 1966, a phenomenon was launched when Dark Shadows debuted on ABC-TV as a daily Gothic suspense series. Airing in the late afternoon, the show attracted a massive youth audience as it shifted to the supernatural with the introduction of vulnerable vampire Barnabas Collins. Witches, ghosts and scary story lines turned Dark Shadows into a TV classic that led to motion pictures, remakes, reunions and legions of devoted fans who have kept the legend alive for five decades.

The feature-length documentary MASTER OF DARK SHADOWS reveals the fascinating history, far-reaching impact and lasting appeal of Dark Shadows with a compelling blend of rare footage and behind-the-scenes stories while also exploring the dramatic talents of creator-producer-director Dan Curtis. Known as the “King of TV Horror,” the Emmy-winning filmmaker followed Dark Shadows with other iconic genre favorites including The Night Stalker, Trilogy of Terror and Burnt Offerings before earning accolades for the epic miniseries The Winds of War and War and Remembrance.

2019 Indie Spirit Awards Winners

“If Beale Street Could Talk” was the top film at last night’s “2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards”, winning three awards including for Best Feature, Best Director for Barry Jenkins, and Best Supporting Female for Regina King.

Founded in 1984 and dedicated to independent filmmakers, the Spirit Awards are selected by Film Independent Members members. Nomination eligibility require films to be produced for less than $20 million in the United States.

This year’s ceremony was hosted by actress and comedian Aubrey Plaza at Santa Monica, California.

“White Chamber” Trailer And Poster Debut

Trailer For Coming Of Age Film “Broken Ghost” Released

Directed by the prolific Richard Gray (The Lookalike, Sugar Mountain, Robert The Bruce), Broken Ghost focuses on a family desperate to leave behind their past secrets for a fresh start in a small town in Montana.

Starring Scottie Thompson (12 Monkeys, The Black List, Star Trek), Nick Farnell, Devon Bagby and Autry Haydon-Wilson, Broken Ghost screens in Berlin this week. Written by Abe Pogos and Catherine Hill (Sugar Mountain) this captivating and haunting film tells the story of one girl’s struggle with bullies and her rise to confront her demons.

Broken Ghost will be distributed by Film Mode Entertainment and available across major digital platforms and VOD in North America starting on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.

“Level 16” Release Date Plus Trailer And Poster Debut

In the thematically rich fantasy Level 16, teen-aged Vivien (Emmy-nominated actress Katie Douglas) and Sophia’s (Celina Martin) are locked away in a sterile top secret facility where they’re taught the finer points of “feminine virtues” by Miss Brixil (Sara Canning), a Stepford-like headmistress, and left to question what fate awaits them when they age out of the institution.

Film Synopsis

“Shoplifters” Wins Palm Springs’ Best Foreign Language

“Shoplifters,” Japanese film directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda was named Best Foreign Language Film of the Year at Palm Springs International Film Festival. The jury award winners were announced today at the Riviera Palm Springs, California.

The film premiered at Cannes last year and won the top prize Palme d’Or, highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. It is also on the Academy Awards’ shortlist for a Best Foreign Language category.

The family drama, which was also scripted and edited by Kore-eda, tells the story of an impoverished Japanese family who reply on shoplifting to cope with their life.

Other announced winners include Marcello Fonte, star of Italy’s Dogman and Joanna Kulig, of Poland’s Cold War, took top honors in the foreign language acting categories.

The Audience Awards for is set to be announced tomorrow, which includes Best Narrative Feature and Best Documentary Feature.

The 30th Annual Palm Springs Film Festival screened 226 films from 78 countries. The festival is held from January 3-14, 2019.

“The Favorite”, “A Star Is Born” Lead BAFTA Nominations

True to its appellation, “The Favorite” is the BAFTA’s favorite film of the year, leading the list of nominees for 2019 BAFTA Film Awards, announced today. The film received nods for best film, outstanding British film and lead actress for Olivia Colman.

Bradley Cooper might have walked away empty-handed empty handed at last Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, but he’s making history over at the BAFTAs, where he earned five nominations across multiple disciplines, a record in the organization’s 72-year history.

Cooper earned nominations in best film, actor, director, adapted screenplay and original music categories for his film “A Star Is Born.” In total, the musical drama earned seven nominations.

Giving Cooper a run for his money is director Alfonso Cuaron, who also earned five nominations for best film, director, original screenplay, editing and cinematography for his black and white Netflix drama “Roma.” The film earned seven nods, including best foreign-language film.

BAFTA Awards show is set to take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Feb. 10, with actress Joanna Lumley returning as host.

“The Rider” Chosen As Best Picture Of 2018 By The National Society of Film Critics

The National Society of Film Critics has chosen Chloe Zhao’s contemporary western drama “The Rider,” as best picture of 2018, the film critic organization announced on Saturday.

“The Rider” has received near universal acclaim since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2017, where it won Art Cinema Award. The film had since had a successful run at Telluride and at Sundance last January, and received nominations at Independent Spirit Awards including best feature, director, editing and cinematography.

Drawing inspiration from its actors’ real life experiences, the docu-fiction tells the story of a young, Native-American cowboy and professional horse trainer Brady Blackburn (played by a real-life rider Brady Jandreau), his physical and emotional struggles after a near-fatal rodeo competition accident left him with steel plate in his head.

Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuaron’s black-and-white “Roma” was the best picture runner-up, and also won for best cinematography, best foreign-language film and best director for Cuaron.

Roma’s win is considered a big boost for its path to the Academy Awards where the film is considered to be one of top contenders to win the big prize.

On the acting front, Olivia Colman won best actress in “The Favourite,” while Ethan Hawke as best actor for “First Reformed.”
