Award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor and Eisner-nominated artist Leonardo Romero Team Up for SHURI #1!

All hail Wakanda’s technological genius! As revealed exclusively on Bustle, Marvel is thrilled to announce that this fall, award winning author Nnedi Okorafor and Eisner-nominated artist Leonardo Romero (Hawkeye) will be bringing SHURI #1 to readers everywhere! And revealed for the first time, Marvel is excited to share the dazzling cover to issue #1 by industry-acclaimed artist, Sam Spratt, best known for his cover art work on Janelle Monae’s “Electric Lady.”

The world of Wakanda is facing a tragic crisis: Black Panther is lost in space, and everyone is looking at who will step up to lead their country in his absence. But Shuri is happier in a lab than she is on the throne…how does a princess choose between her duties to her country and her own ideals?

“Shuri is an African young woman of genius level intelligence who is obsessed with technology and has traveled spiritually so far into the past that she’s seen Wakanda before it was Wakanda,” Okorafor told Bustle in an interview. “The Ancestors call her Ancient Future. And she’s super ambitious. What do I love about her? Alllll that and more. She’s a character in the Marvel Universe who really sings to me.”

“Glass” Trailer Teases

By Creative Media Times

Universal Pictures

A new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s much-anticipated “Glass” is about to debut this weekend during San Diego Comic-Con, and today Universal released a teaser to that trailer, something that’s become pretty common to major upcoming studio films.

The teaser features the voice of James McAvoy’s The Beast, the character in last year’s blockbuster “Split” who has multiple personalities over a shattering glass.

The superhero horror-thriller is supposed to be the third installment in Shyamalan’s series following “Unbreakable” (2000) and “Split.” The film brings together the cast of Unbreakable such as Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Spencer Treat Clark, and Charlayne Woodard with that of Split including McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy. Sarah Paulson is also joining the film.

“Glass” is set for released on January 18, 2019. While we await for the full trailer, here is the film’s partial synopsis:

Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals—2000’s Unbreakable, from Touchstone, and 2016’s Split, from Universal—in one explosive, all-new comic-book thriller: Glass.

From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Its Official: Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Is Happening

By Creative Media Times

Joaquin Phoenix will be playing the iconic character for Warner Bros. origin film, Variety is reporting.

The “Walk the Line” actor finalized the deal recently with shooting set in September of this year. Todd Phillips of “The Hangover” films is said to be directing and co-writing the script.

Phoenix has been nominated for an Academy Award three times, twice as lead actor for The Master (2012) and Walk The Line (2005), and once as supporting actor for his role as Commodus in 2000’s best picture winning film Gladiator.

Some might wonder about Jared Leto, who recently played the role in 2016’s DC Comics antihero ensemble film Suicide Squad. Well, that is apparently also moving forward. A month ago, Variety also reported that his own stand-alone film based on his version of the character from Suicide Squad is in development.

How the two films will co-exist in some form remains to be seen, though Phoenix’s Joker film, said to be a more “gritty crime drama,” could potentially kick-start a new cinematic universe that is different from its current DC Extended Universe.

Warner Bros. has a slate of upcoming films based on the DC Comics including James Wan-directed Aquaman later this year.

Rising Star Tini Howard and Chris Sprouse Deliver a Cap and Bucky Team Up in Captain America Annual #1!

This September, rising star Tini Howard (best known for her work on Rick and Morty and Power Rangers: Pink) makes her Marvel debut alongside superstar artist Chris Sprouse (Black Panther), giving fans a glimpse into the past with CAPTAIN AMERICA ANNUAL #1.

The World War II-era story finds Captain America and Bucky protecting the greater good on the front lines, when they come across a group of concentration camp escapees during a scouting mission – and make it their duty to protect them until the Allies can come to the rescue.

“Alanna and I are both huge Captain America fans, and she knew from my work on The Skeptics that I was also a big fan of historical fiction and period pieces. I’ve also long been an advocate of seeing more women writers take on these tentpole superhero characters – as a fan, it’s mind-blowing to get to put words in Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes’s mouths,” said Howard. “At the same time, we’re working with a time period that’s been often distilled into action stories that fail to recognize some of the realities. One of the great things about historical fiction is the ability to go back and amplify perspectives that may have been silenced – everyone deserves stories.”
