AMC Launches Own Subscription Service

By Creative Media Times

America’s largest movie chain is set to join Moviepass in the subscription service business with the announcement of AMC Stubs A-List, a program that will allow its loyalty program AMC Stubs members to see three films a week for $19.95 a month. The service goes into effect on June 26.

Last year, MoviePass made a big offering to moviegoers with one movie a day for $9.95 per month, a proposition many thought was too-good-to-be-true. By December, the service has reached a million subscribers. Though the service went through multiple pricing re-structures, its impact to movie industry remained.

AMC’s offering, might be more expensive than its MoviePass counterpart (almost double the cost of MoviePass) and for only up to three movies a week, the service has the advantage of premium formats such as 3-D and IMAX options which is missing on MoviePass subscription.

“We believe that our current and future loyal guests will be interested in this type of program, as AMC Stubs A-List rewards guests with something that no one else offers: the very best of AMC, including IMAX, Dolby Cinema and RealD 3D up to 3 times per week, for one simple, sustainable price,” said Adam Aron, CEO and President, AMC Theatres in a press release.

With competing services now being offered to moviegoers, we are sure this won’t be the last, while its longer term impact to the cinema industry as a whole remains to be seen.

Robert Zemeckis Set To Helm New “The Witches” Film Adaptation

By Creative Media Times

Roald Dahl (Author), Quentin Blake (Illustrator)

Twenty years since Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel was loosely adapted into a film comes a new adaptation with Robert Zemeckis attached to direct, Variety is reporting. The new film is said to be a more rooted to the source material.

Zemeckis, who is also writing the script, recently directed the war drama Allied (2016) and the biographical drama The Walk (2015). His latest fantasy film “Welcome to Marwen” starring Steve Carell and Leslie Mann is set for release later this year.

The latest adaptation from Warner Bros. is not all that surprising, especially for a beloved, well-known novel. The 1990 dark fantasy horror-comedy film from director Nicolas Roeg, with Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch, though well received by critics, disappointed at the box-office. Dahl himself is said to have reviled the film due its ending contrasting with his novel. The book was also previously adapted into a stage play.

The Witches novel follows a 7-year-old British boy and his Norwegian grandmother who run into real-life witches while staying in a hotel in England.

Considered “one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century,” Roald Dahl also wrote James and the Giant Peach, The BFG, Matilda, Fantastic Mr Fox, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, all of which were adapted into film.

Rising Star Tini Howard and Chris Sprouse Deliver a Cap and Bucky Team Up in Captain America Annual #1!

This September, rising star Tini Howard (best known for her work on Rick and Morty and Power Rangers: Pink) makes her Marvel debut alongside superstar artist Chris Sprouse (Black Panther), giving fans a glimpse into the past with CAPTAIN AMERICA ANNUAL #1.

The World War II-era story finds Captain America and Bucky protecting the greater good on the front lines, when they come across a group of concentration camp escapees during a scouting mission – and make it their duty to protect them until the Allies can come to the rescue.

“Alanna and I are both huge Captain America fans, and she knew from my work on The Skeptics that I was also a big fan of historical fiction and period pieces. I’ve also long been an advocate of seeing more women writers take on these tentpole superhero characters – as a fan, it’s mind-blowing to get to put words in Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes’s mouths,” said Howard. “At the same time, we’re working with a time period that’s been often distilled into action stories that fail to recognize some of the realities. One of the great things about historical fiction is the ability to go back and amplify perspectives that may have been silenced – everyone deserves stories.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man Swings Into Marvel Comic

This September, to celebrate the launch of the highly anticipated blockbuster action video game Marvel’s Spider-Man exclusively on PlayStation 4, not only will the game’s version of the wall-crawler be showcased in a set of five variant covers, but he’ll also make his Marvel Comics in-continuity debut in the pages of SPIDERGEDDON #0!

How will the star of one of the most anticipated video games of 2018 enter the Marvel Universe, and what role will he play in the final chapter of SPIDER-VERSE? All will be revealed on September 26th by writer Christos Gage – who not only is the scribe of SPIDERGEDDON #0 but is also one of the co-writers of Marvel’s Spider-Man – and acclaimed artist Clayton Crain.

“Growing up as lifelong fans of the web-slinger, everyone on the Marvel Games, Insomniac Games and PlayStation teams are honored and thrilled that characters from Marvel’s Spider-Man are not only gracing all-new variant covers, but are also starring in an in-continuity Marvel Comics event,” said Marvel Games executive creative director Bill Rosemann. “While making the game we poured through hundreds of Spidey’s comics, which inspired our take on his many famous friends, foes, costumes and moments. For the creative process to come full circle and see our version of the characters now appear in the web-slinger’s latest comic book saga is a dream come true for these True Believers.”

“It’s been such an honor for all of us at Insomniac Games to bring the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler to the PlayStation 4, but to see our version of Spider-Man now swing to the pages of a Marvel comic and be featured in SPIDERGEDDON is something we could have never imagined,” said Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar. “We’re all web heads and super excited for the upcoming comics.”

Teaming up with the House of Blues Music Forward Foundation, Live Nation is awarding $30,000 in scholarships to three students who are pursuing careers in the music industry, Live Nation announced today.

“Live Nation is uniquely positioned to help the next generation of music industry leaders build their foundation and follow their dreams,” said Mark Campana, Chief Operating Officer, Live Nation US Concerts. “Music Forward has helped us connect with hundreds of distinguished candidates, and I couldn’t be more proud of this philanthropic program.”

Here are this year’s recipients:

Andrae Alexander, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a Senior at California State University, Northridge is this year’s recipient of the Steven J. Finkel Service Excellence Scholarship, established in memory of a Live Nation employee who went above and beyond to improve the concert experience for fans, artists and staff. Andrae possesses an impressive and dedicated approach when supporting clients, making him a natural at customer service.
