The Darkness, the series co-created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis, and David Wohl, hits its 30th anniversary this year. Image Comics and Top Cow Productions are marking the milestone with two anniversary one-shots, plus a collectible blind bag releasing alongside The Darkness #10 in December.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years since we first introduced Jackie Estacado and The Darkness to the world,” Silvestri said. “What started as an idea for a character who could be both a monster and a hero has grown into something far bigger than any of us imagined.”
The Darkness 30th Anniversary Art Gallery #1 collects covers, sketches, process pieces, and promotional art from across the series’ three decades. The one-shot includes commentary from Silvestri and Joe Benitez on selected works.
The Darkness vs. The Magdalena #1 brings back the Magdalena for three stories set in different eras, from 0 AD Istanbul to the 1990s, showing how the Darkness has tangled with the Order of the Magdalena over the centuries. The oversized special features a chapter by Top Cow’s 2026 Talent Hunt winner Zul Kamarrudin.
In The Darkness #10, only the Angelus stands between Sonatine and ultimate power. If there’s any hope for humanity, it lies with Jackie Estacado, but even if he could be resurrected, would he choose to return?
Top Cow is also releasing 1,996 copies of The Darkness 30th Anniversary Blind Bag, priced at $15 each. The number nods to the year the series launched. Each bag contains one rare collectible comic: either an exclusive variant cover, a foil variant, or a signed ratio variant from the archives with a certificate of authenticity.
The Darkness 30th Anniversary Art Gallery #1 arrives December 2. The Darkness vs. The Magdalena #1 releases December 16, and The Darkness #10 and the blind bag both drop December 23.
